    Gorgeous little serene scene right there! Well done you for somewhat tackling the plugin folder. I also have an ancient laptop with an unwieldy plugin folder and many incomplete projects but the situation is beyond salvaging. For now I play vicariously through this thread!

  8. Of course, the fascinating thing is that each mayor will have their own particular set of cultures and politics at play in their city journals, like the guilds you mentioned. So rather than the 'Events Machine' being this rigid, prescriptive sort of thing, it could just be used as a prompt for mayors to react in a way that would make sense for the geography, culture and politics of their region. Moving even further away from the idea of a standalone randomising feature, instead, a limited number of realistic events could be presented in a CJ poll occasionally and the 'The Revered Spirits of the St'ropoli Dimension' could decide which event is going to happen in the region next. I still think it would be cool if the community were to collate all of these events though, as I am sure there would be many that I would not think of by myself.
  9. Loving the discussions folks, and seeing some of these ideas emerging in cityjournals too. I particularly like the aspect of using polls to make decisions, as seen in CJs by @TheMurderousCricket and @Daeris most recently. It gave me the idea of somehow introducing an 'Events Machine' for SC4, after all "Events, dear boy, events" is the greatest challenge for a statesman, according to PM Harold Macmillan. The core game is limited to disasters, fires, protests and that sort of thing. Most strategy games and also board games have a better grip on this sort of thing ('Stronghold' has Plagues, wolves, bandits, weddings, fairs, droughts, wheat disease e.g.) which all interfere with your economy and popularity. Where am I going with this and how does this relate to a natural growth playstyle? Events steer the course of history and how a settlement might develop just as much as the shape of the terrain. Imagine a natural growth mayor rolling a virtual die, which provides an event and a consequence (an action the mayor must take) *rolls die* Event: Wild fire, Action: Mayor must burn all properties adjacent to forests *rolls die* Event: Drought, Action: Decrease water budget by 40% for 5 years *rolls die* Event: Religious revival: Build +1 religious building in each village I'm not sure that any such 'Event Randomiser' could be built into the game, so it would have to be an external feature. It'd be cool if the community would crowdsource the events and actions into a big list, and perhaps some of these events could be grouped into different eras so that they are relevant to whatever stage in history the city is in. Feel free to roll with the concept, I just provided a rough example of how it might look. The downside is that the implementation would feel quite artificial/contrived, but I trust that the creative minds of Simtropolis could come up with interesting events & actions that would throw some curveballs into the typical flow of decision making.

    I've not visited Simtropolis this summer, and just found out what happened. I am so relieved to hear that Cori has made it through and is doing better, just wishing you get plenty of support with your recovery and moving places. Thanks also to @Cyclone Boom for keeping the community updated and being a good friend to Cori!

    Would love to see more Araucaria Araucana too! They are quite popular in Ireland. You'll often see it in the garden of an old farmhouse, manse or an Anglo-Irish "Big House". The seeds are delicious to eat roasted, like pinenuts or chestnuts. Indeed it is said that the Mapuche may have survived Spanish invasions by wintering in the A. araucana forests and eating the seeds.
  12. Nice! Could be fun to start a new region with a wide variety of landscape and river features and decide where the ancient villages and farms set up shop and then see how that might develop into the modern era.
  13. Lake District, Chile

    Love it! My favourite place on earth! The rainforests are truly sublime. Temperate like you say, so you can happily explore them without the sweat, snakes and insects you'd find in the amazon. I lived in 4 storey barn for nearly a year at the eastern end of Lago Rupanco, and am delighted I can even make out the ribbon of meadows leading out to it in picture 5. You've truly done the region justice here. God I miss pottering about Puerto Varas in search of Kuchen de Frambuesa

    ho ho hold up! I've not seen a new entry as impressive as this since, well last night actually (Emma Raducanu winning the US Open!) I adore scenes like these, would love to see more historic slices of life recreated in SC4 like this.

    Love it! Very much reminds me of the BRT Metropolitano system in Lima, but instead of trains they have two bus lanes segregated in the middle of the highway.
  17. This might be a bit of an aside, but who here is familiar with the book A Pattern Language, by Christopher Alexander? I've only recently heard about it, but not yet read it. I've not studied architecture or anything, I suppose this book, and others in his bibliography, offer an alternative to modernism. Purely as an intellectual exercise, it could be interesting to apply this pattern language to SimCity and see what kind of results can be achieved.

    Can confirm that this also exists in Ireland. I drive this section of road once a week. It's actually really frustrating because it is literally the largest coastal plain in Ireland; entirely flat and free of obstructions. Irish roads are notoriously bendy and twisty, but you'd think if there was one place they could build a straight road, it would be here. But no, let's have five different 90 degree bends in the space of a mile

    Outstanding as always @korver I think I can spy the little village where a kind lady cooked us a small meal of fish and rice after we walked all day without being able to find food! My initial reactions were Tiwanaku and Saqsaywaman, but on looking closer, I'm mistaken. Wherever they are, I can't wait to see the final outcome!
