nybt-forum-threads Parisian Factory for NYBT
Seraf replied to Parisian's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I don't know why someone would say that. It's quite good BAT, and this building can be quite difficult to make. I'd say you did a good job -
Schriefer - Thanks Actually, I was working on special version of University Club but yes, now I will start making the night version tonyr - Thank you darn42 - Thank you very much edwardjeria - Thank you As I said I was working (among other things) on special version of University Club. I don't know if I will end up releasing it because I'm not sure people gonna use it but anyway take a look: (I called it 4th of July version ) Please don't mind the topiaries and old textures, I started this version before finishing standard version, also some of the flags are missing (under balcony as well as between the ground floor windows). The decorations are only on side elevation because it faces Fifth Avenue while the elevation with entrance faces "only" the street

Darn - Thank you And thank you very much for your help with topiaries Vlasky - Thank you And I don't know...maybe I should export two versions, with and without topiaries. But I think that without them the building won't look so nice. tonyr - Thank you I replaced the rest of the topiaries and tried to improve the brick texture:

You would laugh at my material The settings are practically the same as in standard arch&design except for colors and settings that you showed me I finally found out what was wrong with material (in fact - nothing, it was my mistake ;D) and replaced four of the trees with new version, take a look:

Darn - Thank you so much for taking time to make this tutorial! I've tried to make a bush with it but for some reason while the facture seems similar to yours, the colors come out very bright, no matter what

Thank you Aaron! I will try to improve back and alley wall with the hints from darn Darn - Hmm when I was modeling the topiary I took this photo as a reference: Maybe that's the problem? The plants of your photo have rather thin foliage while this one on mine has very thick one. What you think?

Schriefer - Thank you darn42 - I don't know guys what you have against those poor trees I can't see why they look out of place to you But seriously - you're right that they are too saturated, I will try to match the colour with plants hanging from smaller balconies. But what's wrong with shape? They are cut into ball-shape... As for brick... I don't know, I just assumed that the lower portion of the building will be dirty when not cleaned regularly and the upper portion will be somewhat ... worn out due to weathering. Also, back of the building is actually wall-to-wall, you can't see it in real life (actualy you could see it only for 4-5 years before it was obscured by building next to the club) so I didn't think that wall that important...

SimCoug - Thank you! jmsepe - Thank you tonyr - The plants and small trees were there in building's early years, I loved them the minute I saw them on old photos. I think they make building less sterile and more alive Less is a bore IMO Thank you for comment! Schriefer - Thank you Almost done

Vlasky - Yes, fortunately I grow up since then And what can I say, I like the stone facades I worked on the textures, I think they look better now, in fact I'm quite pleased with the color of the stone. I added some details like small trees and plants and most of the missing textures. All that's left to do is texture of front steps and light well and some furniture on the roof

I was thinking about sharing our data about in-game map of Manhattan with other team members in order to coordinate our team work. I mean, to just make sure that most of us makes buildings that will fit in another one's city Also we could think about making a map that would avoid problems such as large buildings placed on city borders (Farley Post Office, NYPL, Grand Central). Tell me what you think about this. For now, most of my city blocks between 42nd and 86th streets are 4 tiles long, widths are as follows: 1 Ave - 2 Ave - 13 tiles 2 Ave - 3 Ave - 12 tiles 3 Ave - Lex - 9 tiles Lex - Park - 8 tiles Park - Madison - 9 tiles Madison - 5th - 9 tiles 5th - 6th ave - 18 tiles 6th - 7th ave - 16 tiles 7th - 8th ave - 16 tiles I think that covers the majority of midtown...

You know, by the way you said that one could think that I'm going to eat you alive By the "yellow thingy" you probably mean roof pavilion and yes, I will desaturate it I also don't have any objections as for desaturating its roof. But I'm not so sure about the facade, and this is why: I spent a lot of time last year trying to get the color of the stone on facade right, it was tricky because the stone may have ten different colors depending on light, time of day and time of year. Also, some photos while they are good to look at in terms of geometry aren't really good when it comes to colors. The photo of which I posted fragment in my preverius post is an example of that. Here's the whole photo: See how the white balance is abnormal. If I would have to pick I would say that this one shows much more accurate colors: See my reasoning now? And thank you so much for the help with the LOD issue I'm sure it will help

ESB looks great! Splendid idea with the animation of progress -
edwardjeria - Thank you The roof garden is empty for the time being but I will add furniture and flagpole as the last touch Darknono35 - Thank you! SimCoug - Thank you very much! While I don't have new renders for you I have a question; it occured to me that I can experience some problems in the future when making The Peninsula Hotel. The problem is that the main cornice of the University Club overlaps onto the wall of Peninsula (I attached a photo). So, anybody have any ideas how to solve that?
