  1. New Discoveries, Great Potential

One question, while i do understand that .dll plugins could be add alot to the game, I don't get the point of making the .dat plugin manger a .dll plugin. Why not create a .exe program that launches sc4 after it has moved the unnecesary plugins to a temporary folder? This would be much, much simpler and less buggy. Maybe you could also use the .dll plugin idea so at the end of the sc4 playing th .dll could launch the .dat plugin manager program as and the unnecesesary plugins could be moved back. I know a little c++, and can allready tell you that it would probably be much harder. PS. On another thought... don't some games have mods that arent just content changes, what about Desert Combat for BF1942? I heard somwhere that that wasn't internal at the begining.
  2. Modern MonorailBusSubway Station

    looks great
  3. simmars-forum-threads Transportation

Is it even known if we can change the type of airplane? Thats too bad about the tunnels!
  4. simmars-forum-threads Transportation

Any thing I can do to help? I cant commit that much time but I do have some available free time. Any way any questions about maglevs just post'em here - i probably can figure out the answer. Also - I really hope the tubes work out.
  5. Food Lion Grocery Store

    Cool
  6. Um...Aren't we using maglev for rails? Magnets are not only used for hovering, but also propulsion. This means that there are magnets on the sides of the track. Even the freight engine should be much more streamlined. Remember that the mars colonies will be knew-we will have already learned about our mistakes. So there will most likely be little pollution. Before working on the Maglev I suggest you go to http://transrapid.de/en/index.html . Also if anyone has any ?'s feel free to PM me since I'm pretty knowledgable about Maglev.
  7. I have a couple of ideas regarding the differance betweem the various transportation types. 1. The subways are the fastest since they have they have the air pumped out of them. (btw- a couple of these subways do exist). 2. The groundrail (maglev) is not covered, this is the cheapest system, and has the most capiticity but is the slowest moving. 3. The elevated rails are covered and have close to the same speed as subways. 4. Monorail, this is the most common city transportation, in present day terms this is light rail(trams) This is covered.
  8. I say we meet saturday at noon or so.
  9. Redlotus showed me how to do add it to the network also. The Lot must be 2 tiles long though. I think that would be better suited for the every day road as apposed to the rail but i can do both.
  10. I agree with Vatt3. We should give all cars the maglev tech, while the highway and avenues are covered.
  11. What about covering sidewalks on roads? I hate the idea of every time having to put a suit on, every time one wants to step into the car. This is a task i could do (thanks redlotus!). I then propose a general rule for all buildings on how the building connect to the sidewalk.
  12. Can you pm me on how you did that? I would love to help, and am pretty good with the reader.
  13. It would not be a pneumatic tunnel, but a tunnel with no air and propulsion provided by magnets (in the Transrapid maglev style). With no air, and no friction, their is very little resistance to the speed of the maglev. This is not economical for short distances. For more info click on the link below. http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/engineering/transatlantictunnel/interactive/interactive.html
  14. Um...From what i know a Bat rendered highway piece will no be usable. You need a s3d file for these pieces. I'm not saying it can't be done with gmax, but you must first export the file to .3ds, and then use Reader to make it into a .s3d file. A while back i wrote up a way to export the file from gmax to .3ds, i can pm you with the details. You will have to texture it in reader (i think).
  15. simmars-forum-threads Utilities Buildings

Why not use hydrogen as both the power and water source. Since hydrogen can be used as a gas, and has no byproducts execpt water why not? This also could be a later option for a more powerful plan is needed.
  16. The Highlander Hotel

    Looks Awesome!
  17. Map Exchange problems

I have been having the same problems with multiple maps. I put the jpg into the region folder, and load the region fine but then when i am in Simcity the jpg dosent appear in the folder and I cannot open the file. Entering the name dosent work either.
  18. I'm not sure that thats such good news anyway. In the most recent chat Will Wright said it takes four years to develop a game. But I am eager to learn about the game that will blow everbody away.
  19. Heres an attempt at powerpoles

    (Double post again)
  20. Heres an attempt at powerpoles

Trolica- You stole my idea! I was just about to post about that after reading the palm trees post and thinking about the feasibitlity of changing these porps to powerploes. But anyway i think that those poles should also go in middle class neighborhoods since most older middle class neighborhoods have these poles.
  21. Using Gmax, advice, tips and feedback.

Although most people do not know about it Gmax includes a Boolean subtract operation . 1. If the pipe intersects with the gutter first make a clone of the pie and move the clone down so it touches but does not go through the gutter. 2. If the pipe does not intersect the gutter make a clone of the pipe then move the clone up so it intersects the gutter. Then move the original pipe so it touches the gutter. 3. Select the pipe that intersects the gutter and select the create menu (the first menu) and then click on the geometry (not spline!) icon (the icon is a ball). On the drop down menu that should currently say Standard Primitives select Compound Objects. Once you do this hit the Boolean button and make sure move is selected and Subtraction A-B is selected as the operation. You menu should look like this: 4. All that is left to do is to press the Pick Operand B button and select the pipe. If you think it is necessary you could also mold the mesh to the hole in the gutter
  22. Using Gmax, advice, tips and feedback.

I have figured out a way to export .gmax files to many different files types( texture that do not have a uvw map will not have the right texture). First you must install a .md3 plugin exporter at http://mojo.gmaxsupport.com/Sections/Plugins.html. Then you must download an old version of 3d exploration at http://www.dsmith.gmaxsupport.com/Essential_Tools.htm. Steps to Convert Model 1. Open the model in Gmax and then click File-Export and choose to export using the Quake 3 model (.md3) 2. In the window that appears write 0 in the box that asks what frames to export and then uncheck the last box in the window (Show Warning Dialogs)(This is unnecessary but otherwise it will prompt you everytime it fids a missing uvw map) 3. Once this is done open up 3d Exploration and got to File-Open and find your file (Usually C:\Program Files\Gmax\Meshes\(your 3d model).md3 4. Now go to File-Save and then you can save to many formats. Hope this helps!
