New Discoveries, Great Potential
defence22 replied to builderman's topic in SC4 Modding - Open Discussion
One question, while i do understand that .dll plugins could be add alot to the game, I don't get the point of making the .dat plugin manger a .dll plugin. Why not create a .exe program that launches sc4 after it has moved the unnecesary plugins to a temporary folder? This would be much, much simpler and less buggy. Maybe you could also use the .dll plugin idea so at the end of the sc4 playing th .dll could launch the .dat plugin manager program as and the unnecesesary plugins could be moved back. I know a little c++, and can allready tell you that it would probably be much harder. PS. On another thought... don't some games have mods that arent just content changes, what about Desert Combat for BF1942? I heard somwhere that that wasn't internal at the begining. -
Is it even known if we can change the type of airplane? Thats too bad about the tunnels!

Any thing I can do to help? I cant commit that much time but I do have some available free time. Any way any questions about maglevs just post'em here - i probably can figure out the answer. Also - I really hope the tubes work out.

Um...Aren't we using maglev for rails? Magnets are not only used for hovering, but also propulsion. This means that there are magnets on the sides of the track. Even the freight engine should be much more streamlined. Remember that the mars colonies will be knew-we will have already learned about our mistakes. So there will most likely be little pollution. Before working on the Maglev I suggest you go to http://transrapid.de/en/index.html . Also if anyone has any ?'s feel free to PM me since I'm pretty knowledgable about Maglev. -

I have a couple of ideas regarding the differance betweem the various transportation types. 1. The subways are the fastest since they have they have the air pumped out of them. (btw- a couple of these subways do exist). 2. The groundrail (maglev) is not covered, this is the cheapest system, and has the most capiticity but is the slowest moving. 3. The elevated rails are covered and have close to the same speed as subways. 4. Monorail, this is the most common city transportation, in present day terms this is light rail(trams) This is covered. -

Redlotus showed me how to do add it to the network also. The Lot must be 2 tiles long though. I think that would be better suited for the every day road as apposed to the rail but i can do both. -

I agree with Vatt3. We should give all cars the maglev tech, while the highway and avenues are covered. -

What about covering sidewalks on roads? I hate the idea of every time having to put a suit on, every time one wants to step into the car. This is a task i could do (thanks redlotus!). I then propose a general rule for all buildings on how the building connect to the sidewalk. -

Can you pm me on how you did that? I would love to help, and am pretty good with the reader. -

It would not be a pneumatic tunnel, but a tunnel with no air and propulsion provided by magnets (in the Transrapid maglev style). With no air, and no friction, their is very little resistance to the speed of the maglev. This is not economical for short distances. For more info click on the link below. http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/engineering/transatlantictunnel/interactive/interactive.html -

Um...From what i know a Bat rendered highway piece will no be usable. You need a s3d file for these pieces. I'm not saying it can't be done with gmax, but you must first export the file to .3ds, and then use Reader to make it into a .s3d file. A while back i wrote up a way to export the file from gmax to .3ds, i can pm you with the details. You will have to texture it in reader (i think). -

Why not use hydrogen as both the power and water source. Since hydrogen can be used as a gas, and has no byproducts execpt water why not? This also could be a later option for a more powerful plan is needed.
