Thanks, I found it very useful.

Originally posted by: LivingInThePast I fixed the link. Is it "fair use" if we get explicit permission by Dirk to use the main page picture?quote> Yes and no. Dirk owns the website so I think he can release pictures of the home page so they are free (not fair use). Simple permission will not be enough; he will need to in a written format release the picture - he can release it under the GNU Free Documentation License or another license, or simply into the public domain. More: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GFDL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain If the image becomes free it will need to be correctly re-tagged and free images should generally be moved to Wikimedia Commons - so they can be used on all projects. For the time being; all SimCity 4 images and going to stay fair use unfortunately.
  8. Save Simtropolis on Wikipedia!

Unfortunately, fair use images can only be used on Wikipedia if they are used in at least one article; and they should not be used at all on the user-space (where the Simtropolis article now is). That is why those images are tagged for deletion. This is stated at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:User_page#Images_on_user_pages
  9. New Chat Server

I have taken a good look at it - although I am not very active around here now I could not resist. I heard Real Chat had upgraded and I expected this site to join in eventually; Real Chat don't seem to be low on their prices though! I managed to get in first time. I like the avatars and the general improved integration into the forum. Only a few messages could be shown on the screen at once though - so the chat moved very fast for me.

If this site (Simtropolis) is a reliable source, shouldn't that qualify for an article on Wikipedia? If not, then the article of SCS should be deleted as well because it is based on a Non-reliable source.quote> This issue was not lack of sources - it was lack of secondary sources. Sources from Simtropolis used for a Simtropolis article are easy to get but would be primary sources - Wikipedia articles to be considered notable should most of the time have a variety of secondary sources used or available to use - there are some around for Simtropolis but not many, and how well they could verify the text is debatable. The source of a Simtropolis interview for a SimCity Societies is an appropriate independent, published and reliable source. The comments from Rod Humble himself is a primary source - though the interview overall is a secondary source. The SimCity Societies article has a variety of sources used (most secondary) which clearly verify the text - meaning it establishes notability. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#Types of source material Got a question! How many Fansites even have a wikipage? quote> Non in the SimCity arena now I believe. This will give you an overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Internet_forums I get the impression many on that list will be deleted in the long-run though. Then again, there's several more important things then that. How many people have popped in and said "I'm sure glad I found that article on Wikipedia! This site is so fantastic!"? Well, this site is fantastic, but in any case... quote> True, a short summary in the SimCity 4 article would cover that. Though at the end of the day, it is written into policy that is not a function of Wikipedia to advertise. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:NOT#SOAPBOX
  12. Save Simtropolis on Wikipedia!

I might as well announce it now - the result of the recent AFD for Simtropolis was to delete the article. I know that there are likely to be attempts at re-creating the article. This is good, I welcome any attempt to re-create the article and there are no specific rules prohibiting re-creating deleted articles. However, be-aware that articles deleted via AFD discussion which are re-created can be speedy deleted without discussion if they are similar or identical to the originally deleted article - and/or do not address the concerns raised in the AFD. So my advice is - if you re-create the Simtropolis article make sure it address the main concerns raised in this now closed AFD. On the side note, I am also involved in plans to include some fan-base information in the SimCity 4 article as part of a drive to make it a Wikipedia "Good article".

  15. Happy Birthday!

No, it is not a late April fools joke, it is actually my birthday today, my sweet 16 to be exact. Thank you very much for the birthday PM Jacqulina! I am still around, though a little busy. To celebrate my birthday me and certain members of my family went up to a aviation and motor car museum called "Brooklands", located near Guildford/London, England. It was fun, it even included a tour of the third Concorde produced called "Delta Golf", which was interesting.

How global warming would effect the UK itself though has caused a lot of controversy and confusion. Some scientists think it will cause a general rise of temperatures in the UK and give the country a climate like that of the current Mediterranean. However some others are saying it could cause the Gulf Stream to stop or slow down, which would give the UK a much colder climate.

And it may sound exaggerated that the world may end if we don't do something about it, but its the truth. quote> Indeed, I agree that it is completely irresponsible to just dismiss Global Warming as a threat and just sit and watch it get worse. I look at this way, the world is not black and white. Yes, the earth goes through natural warming and cooling trends. Yes, CO2 does naturally sustain life on earth by keeping the earth warm. But no, that does not necessarily mean what is happening now is purely natural and that despite humans pumping huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere, that humans can be in no way shape or form have some responsibility. Scientists have just released another pretty convincing report in Paris that humans have contributed to global warming, and IMO humanity should listen to it and act. And even if Global Warming by humans is false, that does not mean it is wise to just continue pumping out pollution gases because there are other problems such as Smog and Acid Rain.

Congrats Micah and RippleJet! Well deserved guys.
  19. One person

Richard Branson For some reason I have always been a fan of this entrepreneur, I have read his autobiography. It would be interesting if I could see him one day, I would learn a lot. Also, I might manage to convince him to give me a free ticket on Virgin Galactic.
  20. Dell to offer computers with Linux

Well I think this is good news overall, the more competition the better IMO. Though, I personally will be sticking with Windows for now.

*****atoo-210893: Nice, very colourful, 9/10. aleking: Welcome back! Another one of those huge images I see, lovely, I like the railways like with the last one, 10/10. The_sanderson: I like this one better, though I would suggest you make the avenue in the top left hand corner look like it is continuing rather than ending, to improve the image further, 8/10. Cjah: Interesting image! The water effects are good, looks like a house is going to be washed away, 8/10.
  24. Where do you normally buy your games?

I buy most of my games from Game, plenty of choice and the prices are reasonable. On the issue of Woolworth's, there are loads of them around here (England), though I have never bought a game from them.
