The angle of the light source might be slightly off - (I'm going by eye, and comparing the angle of the shadow cast by the light poles on the avenue to the angle of the shadows cast by the stadium). There may also be a *smidgin* too much yellow. I say this as a complete unprofessional though, so don't take it as gospel.

I'd suggest either getting the GIMP (you can find it easily on Google) or IrfanView (which is great for converting images and resizing). Both of those are freeware, and well worth the download. (I'd suggest grabbing both, as IrfanView is useful for converting images to greyscale which will often fix borked region maps). GIMP will allow you to do some fancy manipulation as well. Also, both of the above programs seem to be better at compressing images.

A Cricket Stadium. Any Cricket stadium. I don't care which one its based on or even if it's made up, but my cities need a cricket stadium. My cities seem *gasp* too American without a Cricket stadium.

*applauds fervently* Well done! You've done an excellent job of capturing the essence of the Hong Kong area (from what I've seen in photos, anyway). One thing I really like is how you've used those airport lots - I hadn't thought of using them like that - but it looks really good!

Finally, some of the more nondescript residential towers! BATs like this are needed badly. We could really use a set of these. with colour and height variations... Just an idea.

Wow, that is quite an improvement. The textures are the thing that really make the new version of the building... The new glassy building looks very promising indeed. Will it be W2W? It certainly looks like a w2w building, anyhow. Both would make excellent additions to my cities.

First off, the houses look great - I particularly like the roof textures, they look very, very convincing. The Nopixel building, for some reason though doesn't quite convince me, and I think I might know why... The gradient's going the wrong way. it needs to be dark at the bottom, not the top. It's fixed easily enough... Just go into your graphics editor and flip that texture horizontally vertically. It'll fix it. Also, I'd consider a concreteish texture variant on the walls, I think a brutalist version of that would look rather good. It also looks a little stumpy. scale it up vertically a bit. The stadium looks good, it just needs some good textures to bring it to life. The only thing I might suggest is scaling it up a little... making it a bit more spacious (even smaller stadiums take up quite a bit of land) would look better. It doesn't need to be hugely bigger - even 10% bigger might, IMHO

Well done, Darwin looks great... From the photos I've seen of it, you've got the bulk of the CBD about right... BTW, slightly off-topic, but would anyone be interested in a Darwin region map? I've got the terrain data and it's very high quality.

LOL. Can't say I've had that problem to that extent... 156 tiles is about 2.4km in real life distance. (decided to translate that distance for the rest of us...). Nice suburb, by the way.

Yeah, something like that (referring to Glenni's newest post here) would be nice to see, even if it is pointless eyecandy. It'd make a great "local landmark" building, actually. There seems to be something very very wrong about the lighting on that bogan roundabout... I look forward to seeing what the nightlights on the fountain roundabout would look like. I could easily see that one working well in a harbourside area.

SimCity 4 and wide screen 1680x1050 monitor
cammo2003 replied to artosoft's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: Shadow_Assassin Actually, the game does support widescreen. It's natively supported and is activated by the command line. I actually run my game in 1680x1050, and there's no graininess or stretching. Follow the instructions on how to activate it here. All widescreen gamers should bookmark this wiki, because it has a very comprehensive list of games that support widescreen natively, as well as any hacks that are supported, etc, etc. But be warned, running the game in 1680x1050 will cause more lag with your system than lag that is caused playing in 1280x1024. I have an X1650 Pro and it lags a bit, especially when using Cycledogg's trees, and it's on maximum detail. By the way, running in full-screen mode will always result in much better performance graphically than running it in windowed mode.quote> Another one running it successfully. A tip to others: order with the -CustomResolution:enabled switch appears to be essential. It needs to be the first switch after the game shortcut. I'm using a 7600GT myself and am getting minimal lag (though there is some when laying trees, but that's been the case since before I started using widescreen). But that's really the only lag I'm getting. -
Hi folks! I'm not well known around these parts, but every now and then I have an urge to create a new map. I mostly create these maps or transport view mods for my own purposes, however I figure there's nothing gained by keeping them to myself, so I generally release these things. I've just released a new map, of the city of Hobart on the STEX . It's live now (I seem to be good at catching the STEX at the right time). Hobart Located in the south of Tasmania, Hobart is a city of immense beauty. Its location is stunning - the city is dominated by Mt Wellington, which rises 1,270 metres behind the city. Alongside Sydney, this city would have arguably one of the most stunning harbours in the world. It's quite a hilly place - as is probably evident by the terrain image. The city is fortunate to have retained its historic district, centred around Constitution Dock. If it weren't for the modern buildings behind this area and the cars on the road, you could be forgiven for thinking you'd been transported back in time. Hobart is, however, Tasmania's largest city, and a well-known one. It's the end-point of the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race - one of the most famous (and most dangerous) such races in the world. Hobart was a whaling city. In the 1800's, as the southernmost Australian port, she was an important port for this purpose. Her deep, broad harbour was an asset to the city. The city has a chilly feel in winter, with Mt Wellington receiving a dumping of snow many years (as shown). Snow has been known to fall to sea level, though it is rare. Hobart has a mild summer generally, rarely hitting the 30's, and usually having maximums in the mid-20's (I'm talking celsius here). Hobart's challenging terrain should make for an interesting city

Actually, it was in Classic in a way. Each of those things you plopped was a zone, it was just of fixed size. They really should have kept zoning, even if in a slightly more limited fashion... It would for example, be tedious to plop a suburban area, but a commercial core is less so. Things like schools etc would obviously be plopped, as would transit stations if they were inclurded (which unfortunately they're not.. Beats me as to why not, though. Rail was in classic, even, if in a limited way.

Great work. I would make one suggestion though, use JPG format. Muuuch quicker to load, and folks using internet explorer can actually see them... (IE has issues with PNGs). Aside from that, great work. You've used flora well, and I like what I see in terms of the road network.

The New Official Next Generation Sim City Wish List
cammo2003 replied to Goldfish4209's topic in City-Building Games
Originally posted by: fastica I agree with 99% of the features proposed here, but also want to add an interested one (I think)> Printable city maps. It could be a button to let you export the city map as a graphic so you can print it. It could also let you put names to the streets, avenues, etc. Just imagine the possibilities to have a printed map to do some planning for the city expansion. I think it would be great to have this. ----quote> I really like this idea. It'd be good to have a street name generator within the game as well - and an easily moddable one (it could perhaps be read from a .ini file), so that one doesn't have to name EVERY street. Perhaps roads, avenues, and motorways should be excluded from the naming process and done manually, though. -

I love those rowhomes you did... Still populate my cities to this day.

Cammo's Mapping and Cartography Studio
cammo2003 replied to cammo2003's topic in Mapping Community Room
Alright, this is done. First off, you'll need SC4Mapper to render this. It can be found here. As for the region: It's ready to go. Should appear on the STEX promptly. -

First off, I realise this isn't a lot. It's just that you can only upload greyscales for the Map category. This map is a rendition of the Central Coast region, located in NSW, Australia. It's reasonably accurate, not perfect, but fairly close. This is my first SC4M rendered-region. What that means is you need SC4Mapper to render this region (I've done this as it's alot easier to do things this way as opposed to mucking around with height .dat files. SC4Mapper can be found here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=179 (Note that you must be registered and logged in as SC4Devotion to get that. It'll prompt you anyway if you're not).
