I've never had a problem using these embankments in the past. In fact they are my favorites to use when making shorelines. So I've had plenty of experience using them. I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. SimCity4 would not work so I had to purchase it from Origin. Most of the plugins work in this version as I've rediscovered the game and have been playing again. I have the same problem with the marrast embankments that IRL87 is having. It's like there is a texture file that is not working so the stone walkways and overhangs are not showing. I can't seem to find the readme to see if I'm missing a texture or prop file.

Can't Install Rush Hour on computer running Windows Vista
bfairin posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
I noticed that a few other people had the same problem searching through the forums but I couldn't find where someone answered this problem. I installed SC4 Vanilla with no problems. When I tried to install the Rush Hour disc the computer tried to start it, thought about it for a moment, then nothing. I then tried installing it using a previous version of Windows (I checked XP), still nothing. I did try playing SC Vanilla to test if it would work and seemed to work fine (I was bored the whole time LOL). Anyone out there heard of a fix for this problem? Thank you in advance for your help and consideration. -
I just drove south out of Wisconsin on I-94 only a few hours ago and I assure you that the Mars Cheese Castle and the frontage road off ramp to it are still there!

Colts win! Steelers lose! Now if the Patriots lose tomorrow this will have been a perfect football weekend for this Colt season ticket holder. GO COLTS!

I had to reply to this thread. Being an over the road truck driver with over half a million miles on the road I have seen the worst that this country has to offer in highways. Let me start by listing a couple of nice highways: Almost any four lane in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has some of the highest gas taxes in the country and the condition of their roads reflect that. I particularly like US 151 between Dubuque and Madison, US 10 west of Appleton, I-39 north of Portage, and I-43 north of Milwaukee. I hate Ohio because of the 55 mph truck speed limit but they do have a few nice roads in their state. US 35 between Dayton and Chillicothe and US 30 from Upper Sandusky to Mansfield are two of the nicest rides in that state. Some other favorites: I-80 in Nebraska, I-76 in Colorado, I-65 in Tennessee, I-90 in Minnesota, I-40 in Texas and Western Oklahoma, I-70 in Utah, US 160 from Walsenburg, CO to the Jct. with US 89 in Arizona (just some of the most beautiful scenery and reletivly light traveled, well maintained road. The ride over Wolf Creek Pass in CO is especially fun!). My list of the worst: For Congestion from allowing every shopping mall a traffic light (my DOT pet peeve): US 280 south of Birmingham, AL; US 74 east of Charlotte, NC; US 31 north of Indianapolis, IN; US 72 between Athens, AL and the MS stateline; US 30 east of Lancaster, PA and from East of Valpraisio, IN to Joliet, IL. For Congestion due to the lack of travel lanes: I-95 from the end of the NJ Turnpike over the GW Bridge through the Cross Bronx Expressway and NE Thruway onto the Connecticut Turnpike until New Haven, CT; I-80/94 south of Chicago; I-94 through Chicago, I-76 better known as the Schuykill Expressway in Philadelphia, I-17 north of Phoenix; I-35 through Austin, TX; the whole length of I-81; and last but not least , I-40 better known as "The Gorge" in TN and NC. For poorly designed and dangerous roads: I-95 from the end of the NJ Turnpike over the GW Bridge through the Cross Bronx Expressway and NE Thruway onto the Connecticut Turnpike until New Haven, CT; The Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-44 through Rolla, MO; I-65 through Montgomery, AL; I-75 through Chattanooga, TN and north of Atlanta; I-26 south of Asheville, NC; I-95 through PA, I-78 (the whole road from the jct with I-81 to the Holland Tunnel); I-86 in NY; I-15 in CA; I-35 north of Kansas City and I could keep going on but those encompass some of the worst. My absolutely most hated stretch of highway in these United States: US 280 South of Birmingham. I dread having to drive this road when sent to our customers in Cildersburg, AL and Opelika, AL. Anyways thanks for allowing me to get all that off my chest!

I'm sure these items have already been addressed but I figure I'll put my two sense in here. Customizable menus. At least if we could have a scroll bar would be a big improvement. Being able to have other transit networks cross under bridges. More and better under-bridge scenery. I was driving through Austin, TX and noticed that under the elevated section downtown they have parking lots. Other bridges will still have grass, shrubs growing under them because there is still enough light for them to grow. How about some extended lots to work with other parks and lots. Interchange Editor. For customizing interchanges for specific situations. I love what Jeronjji and Buddybud have done with the embankments, but some better transitioning lots at the ends of the walls or near bridges. More realistic ordinances and/or business deals. Fix the water bug so water side embankment lots are easier to develop. How about a larger city square. 512X512 tiles. And last but not least: What ever happened to the new NAM that was supposed to be released back in April? Sorry just had to get that one off my chest. No disrespect meant I appreciate everything that people do to make this game better and more enjoyable, but it was reported back in April that it was going to be released then and I'm still waiting for those double-height puzzle pieces.

Boston Central Artery/Tunnel Project (Big Dig)
bfairin replied to blahdy's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
blahdy this is some of the best batting work I've seen. I'm really impressed. I had one suggestion though for the elevated highway transition. At the point where the southbound lanes widen up from three lanes to three lanes+HOV lane, instead of transitioning the way you are now, I thought it would be more useful in the game if you had an on ramp which came up to join the bridge at that point to add the lane. I thought something as simple as the One-Way to Elevated Highway straight ramp that is offered in the current NAM. With the exits going to the Charlestown exit we would have a way for traffic to go the one way but not to connect the other. With a One-Way on ramp we could use the Maxis one way road to cross under the elevated highway that starts there to give traffic a way to return. Thanks for the consideration. Great job! -
A little history of the development of the Interstate Highway System. When they developed the interstate highway system they tried to project traffic and defense needs 20 years in the future(one of the original uses was to be for the easy movement of troops and equipment in the event of war). This is the reason that some stretches of interstate highways were originally built 6 lanes wide, they projected traffic needs 20 years out would warrant the extra lanes. I-35 south of Austin, TX; I-287 between I-80 and I-78; and I-65 south of Indianapolis are examples of this. If the projected vehicle count would be 5000 vehicles per day or less a two lane semi-limited access road was built. This meant that in areas of higher traffic use (like near larger towns) a fully limited access road was built (two or four lanes), and in the more rural areas at grade crossings were allowed. There are still some at grade crossings on I-40 west of Albequerque and near the TX/NM border, and on I-10 in west Texas. Some other examples were I-90, I-15 and I-94 in Montana, I-94 in ND, and I-80 and I-25 in Wyoming. In the mid-70's Congress passed legislation stating that all interstate routes were to be limited access divided freeways along their enire length. So over the later 70's and early 80's these two lane routes were widened to accomodate the new law. This is why there are many interstate roads that are very lightly traveled and make no sense why the expense was made to build them. Also to consider is that the projected traffic figures were made by humans and they do make mistakes or areas never quite developed like they thought. That could be the explanation behind I-480 east of I-271 in OH or I-196 in MI.

This is the I-787 Interchange in dwtn. Albany, NY. I like it because of the compact shape of it and it would take up less room than the stack interchange available now. I think it would go good in the game.

Date: 2/15/2006 5:35:01 PM Author: Keiran Halcyon The double deck bridge experiment thread proves that we have some BATers among us, so, BATters, anyone want to tackle this, so the NAM guys can path it? quote> THIS IS IT! This is one of the intersections I've been waiting for. Is any of the NAM Pathfinders willing to tackle this. Maybe we should put this intersection up for vote. I see this intersection coming in handy along flat ground not just as a sunken freeway. You could raise the ground 15m where the road goes and the road slopes up to the point where the intersection puzzle piece would attach. It would look just like thousands of highway intersections spread throughout the world!

SC4 Startup Manager - manage your plugins!
bfairin replied to Andreas Roth's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
This is stated in the readme file: 'After the first start, it might be necessary to manually select the correct region in SimCity once, but subsequent startups should load the correct region automatically.'quote> I saw that in the readme and I wanted to load a region I just started and only had a few cities in it. I thought it would be easier to just start a blank region and import the couple of cities that were in it. So instead of using the Load Region feature I used the New Region feature and when it prompted me for the name of the region I used the name of that region and it loaded it that way just fine. To make a long story short, if you want to load regions you already have treat it as a new region and when asked, type in the name of that region and the startup manager will search your files and automatically install it in the startup manager. -
Is anyone working on a Y interchange for Ground and Elevated Highways. Not like the Y stack for avenues but more like a lower case y where the one road continues straight and the other road that T's into it goes diagonal or the one road could go diagonal and the other road T into it orthanglely. Also once I had seen a picture in one of the NAM threads of the unique round stack interchange on I-787 in downtown Albany. Is there anyway an interchange like that could be included in the NAM? Thanks for your time and consideration.
