Looks Like We Need to Start a Simtropolis Guild
BurroDiablo replied to tomfoolery_79's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Sounds like a plan. I like my heavy industry though so you'll probably want to build as far away from me as possible -
Yeah, those are definitely tram lines. Nice to see some trains too, although the people emerging from the train station reminds me of the 'Chinese Development Aid' edict from Tropico Modern Times

I like what I'm seeing so far, I'm really not bothered about the cartoony graphics as long as the gameplay is awesome.
-
I'm not too bothered, I like an unpredictable game, when a disaster hits you'll just have to deal with it, it adds to the challenge. As long as reconstruction doesn't become a chore.

Wow, this is a beautiful CJ, great work!

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
BurroDiablo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
What he is saying, physical media or not, Origin will still be installed and required to play. Same as with Steam distributed games on CD. I own Postal3, Fallout:New Vegas, and Dead Island on CD. They all required me to install and set up an account with Steam. I bought Battlefield3 on CD and it forced me to install and setup an Origin account. I installed Assassins Creed 2 from CD, it forced me to setup an UPlay account. Anno 2070 or whatever f*** it is called, bought through Steam, forced me into UPlay as well. Both Airline Tycoon2 (on CD) and Tropico 4(on CD) required an Kalypso Media Launcher account. At this rate my computer will be consumed by these "Game" (read DRM/Store) portals. I miss the days of Gamespy Arcade, IGN was like nope and turn that whole network and portal concept into crap. I remember when an install was just an install. Then it started asking for serials. Then it wanted you register for customer support. Then linking your game serial to an account was optional (thanks a lot EA) Then Direct2Drive happened, That led to Steam. Then the DLC kicked in with Neverwinter Nights being one of the first(thanks a lot Bioware) At that point I switched to consoles. Great, they have HDDs now and internet connections. Patches (read unfinished games) and mostly DLC inbound. I caught wind of the no disc drive and war against used games, built a nasty PC. No way around it, SimCity will force you to install and have an Origin account. It's what EA wants so they will get it. I don't see a mass boycott happening to stop it. This newer generation of gamers are too accepting of digital distribution. I've never believed it to be a good idea, or beneficial to the consumer. When Bioware did the DLC for Neverwinter and D2D led to Steam I had the foresight to see where it was heading. Here we are, the consumers, steadily getting railed by corporations with an uneasy smile on our collective faces. I think that pretty much sums up where I stand on this entire issue. It's ironic really because it does nothing to solve piracy, its just a punch in the face to those who actually buy games legally. -
Poll: How much would you pay for subscriptions or additions?
BurroDiablo replied to Mark Waybill's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I could potentially pay full price for the game if it turns out to be what I've been waiting for, and with that I'd also contemplate purchasing any worthy expansions that they release (none of this Heroes and Villains bull). I will not pay for subscriptions and mods... if they even put these costs in I will be side stepping SC13 all together. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
BurroDiablo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I could play BF3 via Origin from a quick guest account I set up, only admin related problem I had was installng an update for Battlelog that required the administrator password. Going offline on Origin disconnects you completely I believe... you cannot see your friends or the EA Store. If your still concerned EA is spying on you in offline mode, you might as well just disconnect from the internet. -

Digital Deluxe is £65gbp, which is something like $104usd. I'm not parting with that amount of money easily, especially when next year has a bunch of other games I'm looking forward to that will most likely be equally expensive. -
What Maxis fails to realise....
BurroDiablo replied to Razyeon's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
As I understand it, besides multiplayer, you will have the option to be able to build in isolation without the fear of a random dropping in unannounced and building a cesspit next to your wonderfully crafted metropolis. -
As far as we're aware, soloplay is affected by the Global Marketplace the same as multiplayer. Whether or not they change this for the sake of a more flexible solo mode, we can't tell.
-
How many of you actually would/will play multiplayer?
BurroDiablo replied to Dewm's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'm willing to play online with randoms, simply because I like some unpredictable fun. Even if they choose to troll with pollution or crime waves, i'm up for the challenge. That said, I'll probably be spending most of my time soloing in my own region, trying to create some unique cities not plagued by the misdeeds of it's neighbors. -
It would be pointless to cut out pipes altogether, not everywhere is connected to a road. I assume (hope) they'll deal with this as they did with powerlines... you want to connect remote areas or neighbors? Then lay a pipe. Otherwise, let the roads handle it. Where have you heard/seen this? I hope to hell it's not true.
-
This is basically the same as what they did with power lines. It should be fine as long as there's still an option to lay them to outlying areas (like an island off the coast).

I was wondering if it was at all possible for somebody to make a Super Demand Ordinance Mod similar to Buggi's but instead of all RCI demand skyrocketing, insert seperate Dat. files for Residential, Commercial and Industrial demand. My problem is, I want to make a realistic looking Communist state, I want some Commercial but not tonnes. My region is big but Industrial demand is always low, wich isn't great because, i want to provide jobs but I don't want to use Commercials and Industry never grows. Whenever I turn on the Super Demand Ordinance, I get great Industrial demand and growth, but I also get undesired CO$$$, CS$$$ and R$$$ ... I'd love something like this- 12 seperate Dat. files all to be flexible on/off through the Ordinance section Radical R$ Ordinance Radical R$$ OrdinanceRadical R$$$ Ordinance Radical CS$ Ordinance Radical CS$$ Ordinance Radical CS$$$ Ordinance Radical CO$$ Ordinance Radical CO$$$ Ordinance Radical I-AG Ordinance Radical I-D Ordinance Radical I-M Ordinance Radical I-HT Ordinance If anybody could make this I would be eternally greatful

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
BurroDiablo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This is how it is for me, I'm hoping no subscription fees explain the inflated price of the base game... Limited Edition is a good £10 more expensive than the other new games on Origin, and Deluxe is £30 more! If there are subscription costs on top the monstrous initial cost, they can kiss my sale goodbye. -
RoN is more compact and much faster paced than Civ, plus it's Real Time... immense fun though, would suggest getting the Gold Edition as it comes with the 'Thrones and Patriots' expansion which added in more stuff like Government structure. I installed Civ V again actually, I haven't played it in over a year so I thought I'd pick it up again and see if I can have some fun.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
BurroDiablo replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Even though they clearly understand that modding has kept SC4 alive and selling to new customers even today, the lack of any solid confirmation on modding support is disheartening. I certainly trust Maxis not to disappoint on the modding front, but SC13 is a no sale for me until mod support is guaranteed, even if it is a few months after the initial release. 'Potential' is a dirty word imo. I'll add that I don't care much for DRM, but it's not a factor I consider when purchasing a game. I care for longevity. -
What was your first ever game & your gaming history?
BurroDiablo replied to organicsabre's topic in Gaming Talk
Sim City on the SNES. Beast of a game! I'm pretty sure I played games earlier than this, but their names and the names of the consoles elude me. SNES was the first console I owned properly and Sim City was the first game I played on that console. I also owned SC2K on the Playstation a few years later in 97, but I lost it somewhere and never EVER found it! Probably stolen, same happened to my Command and Conquer generals disk in 2005, but that was a mistake... whoever took it swiped the Napalm Death album i'd put the disk in as I was ripping the music off the CD in my PC. -
I started with IV and bought V because I thought it would more fun as it did away with the unit stacks of doom, but became bored with it very quickly. I've come to the conclusion I simply don't like Turn-based games, I love Fallout but I cannot stand the turn-based nature of earlier titles. I would say V an improvement on IV as it does away with the unit stacks of doom, but I much prefer Rise of Nations over Civ despite it being dated

Your Questions for Maxis (for March-April 2012)
BurroDiablo replied to Kevin's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Q: In the likely scenario that modding and multiplayer aren't compatible, will SimCity come with an integrated 'mod manager' in which we can activate/disable our installed modifications to make the transfer between modded singleplayer and unmodded multiplayer smoother? (There is an integrated mod manager system used in the 'Men of War' games which does this very well) -
Sounds interesting, I like the idea of crime carrying on over into other cities, if somebody is hunted in one city they might flee to the next and depending how well funded or 'advanced' your force is, the chances of catching the perp will increase, and what one city loses in safety rating the other gains. Crime is an interesting subject in itself, I would like it to be simulated more realistically. Some crimes could be random, like traffic crimes and manslaughter, but more serious and violent crimes such as burglary, robbery, arson could be tied to education and unemployment levels, as well as boredom to a lesser extent. Vandalism could work this way too. Police can act as a deterrent, but not the most effective method of combating crime... you may find yourself with overflowing Prisons if you tackle crime purely with a massive Police force, spending more funds on crime control and correctional institutions instead of spending funds trying to prevent crime in the first place. Of course, we can't just limit crime to the poor shlubs on the bottom rung of society, I'm sure we understand that our wealthier inhabitants are no saints either, and are perhaps are much harder to catch due to the nature of their methods. Perhaps the Police station could have a variety of 'Departmental' upgrades, the base station would include Uniform/Patrol, Traffic and Judiciary/Investigative departments, but upgrades could include Fraud, Vice (Organised Crime/Narcotics), Cyber-crime, Homicide and SWAT/Riot Police. Departmental upgrade means you only pay for what you need. In a small town where violent crime is infrequent and organised crime is non-existent, you won't need the majority of the upgrades and therefor the Police Station is cheaper to maintain. As your city grows and your problems become more varied, you can add on what you need but at the cost of additional funding on top of the initial building cost. Of course, this could also be handled by simply giving us 3 different stations of varying size and cost like they did in SC4 without getting deeper into the workings of the station itself. For the radius of Police and emergency services in general, I think they should serve the entire city tile, but have a spectrum of how effective they are at certain distances tied to response times. Say you have a Police station in the city centre, and there's a robbery at a farm near the edge of the map, the police will be able to respond but the chances of catching anybody are remote due the time it takes to reach the victim. Response times could also be effected by city traffic, infrastructure and what facilities are available at the station (Maybe a fleet of Lamborghini cop cars will increase those response times ) so higher traffic density could directly affect the effectiveness of the station (a Helicopter could solve this). I think this is a similar method to what CXL had, but I would prefer if the coverage went to the edge of the map instead of simply becoming non existent at a point.

Thousands of hours put into custom content and mods...
BurroDiablo replied to Hellken's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You mean they will be able to bring them into the new game, it will just take more work to optimize the models Although it would probably be faster just to start from scratch As long as people know the basics of low poly modelling and texturing (which I'm sure the vast majority of the people in the larger BAT groups do), most should survive the transition. You'll probably find yourselves spending more time UV mapping and in Photoshop when BATing for SC5 than with SC4 which may be a little daunting to those relatively new to 3D modelling as in SC4, but SC5 modding was always going to be less accessible and more technical than SC4. Still, full 3D will be rewarding for those with the knowledge and/or aptitude to learn the skills needed in order to make it work... and a few good tutorials to help those who'd like to start never hurts.
