It is, concepts art, although don't expect the gameplay to me better than what you saw :(

Maxis is long gone, don't live on old merits. What we once had we will never get back.

EA is destroying and will keep on doing it because they are giving the majority what they want to play, and that is a games picturing our society, a dumbed down civilization.

To put things real simple. I hate the new look and if this is only online then I hate it even more. For me this new 5 gets a 0/5 for it's look.

We want more realistic not less.

While I think it is a little early to start the doom and gloom, we shouldn't get too excited either. At least not this early in the game. Remember that Sim City 4 wasn't exactly perfect when it was released either. We made it the best game it could be and that took years.

I shall try to contain my excitement for the time being and see how this progresses. The graphics are actually quite nice and I did see buildings growing in the trailer. I will be following this development with great interest.

Like Cities XL, it appears as though it's all about building a massive metropolis. I want to build realistic looking small towns too, I don't want skyscrapers galore! Realism please!

All they needed to do (in addition to what SC4 is already) was update the region camera views to show 3-d movement, maybe expand the region dimensions a bit and make the terraforming more like SC4 terraformer (no reconciling edges, etc.). Plus add some updated graphics, curved roads and lots, and maybe some weather. Other than that, if it aint broke, dont fix it. Keep the modding and single player format. It seems like this new Sim City is going to be a Maxis version of CitiesXL without adding the little changes that everyone wants to see.

    EIGHTY EURO?! O_o

I don't want online as a main source. It'll just be CXL again. I want SimCity 4 with enhanced graphics and modding capabilities. I'm also not going to buy a game for €80. That's just stealing from my pocket.

€49.99 and none of EA's paws on this damned game, and I'll be happy.

Stick to the original formula! Create a simple game mode for 1-celled children and leave us with our complexity or ability to create complexity!! 7.gif

@ Derwilly, You seem to be going against your own logic. Don't fall for the stupid trailer? I agree, there is no reason to think this is indicative of gameplay. But you "fell" for the stupid concept art. Maybe you shouldn't take that too seriously either. :/

If it is online only then I probably won't invest the money into it. I don't mind some online play, to make fantastic regions and to simulate trade and tourism, but online play brings out the evils in some people. Maybe your city isn't bustling with wealth, or has a strong industrial base, I could see some people getting shut out of the groups. Also, online-only play does not really work for the casual gamer, as much progress will have taken place since your last time "logging in". Think CivWorld on Facebook for one such example. Also, have they addressed if this will be a fee-based play? Many online games require a monthly membership fee, despite paying 50, 60, even 80 dollars for a game disc. Will the regions be ours to create, or will we have to settle for pre-created regions online??

What I loved about SC4 is its seemingly endless playability, even more bolstered by the great modders and BATers here on Simtropolis. The fact that you could play at your leisure, anywhere, no internet needed, made this such a great game to have. You could play this in a plane ride, looking down on the very region you are trying to emulate. While the new game looks great on video, and I am excited to see a new SimCity,... not having a solo play, and by this I also mean non "wired" play... is a deal breaker for me.

for all those that may say, fine, be a downer, play SC4 for years to come,...isn't that what we all have been doing since EA declared the franchise dead in 2003???

The trailer shows a casual game, like Societies.

You notice the "competition" on the conceptual trailer? It seems that two player (red and blue with yours respective sides of the river) are on a competition each other.

I don't want this kind of game!

I don't be surprise if the size of the maps are small like in the video, and you have to share with others to create one "large" city.

The style of graphics is terrible. Someone said that it is easily moddable.. WTF?! All the models of the ENTIRE GAME?!

This is the time for us to shout against what we think what should be better, not after the release!

Simtropolis could trying to open a channel of comunication (open letter?) with Maxis and making our desires be heard.

6..0.. 60$ For the limited edition... Where's the regular, and WHY THE HECK IS THE DELUXE 75$ JUST FOR 3 BUILDING SETS! I nearly lost faith in this already just from that... EA greedy [CENSORED]

Cities XL never appealed to me because the graphics were poor and it only appealed to European style cities. I want to be able to build U.S. style cities like Houston, Austin, San Jose, Tulsa, Cleveland, etc... not Euro-looking cities.

Transportation options in Sim City 5 are extremely important to me. Once I know we can build all kinds of highways, roads, interchanges, etc... I will then buy the game. But until then, I'll stick with Sim City 4 + NAM.

I'm guessing it will require a constant connection to play, like Blizzard games, but I'm sure we'll be able to develop regions on our own.

Any word on a Mac version of the game? I know that Maxis titles have always had a pretty decent mac following - and with the new popularity of the mac platform you'd think they'd develop a mac version...

Do people really lack that much common sense? >.< The online play is optional. It just said is has a fully multiplayer option.

Anyone remember the SC4 trailer? It looked cartoon-ish and looked nothing like the actual SC4 game. I'm pretty sure this newer one is no different. The Graphics in the final product will undoubtedly be better.

My one complaint is that I actually have to buy an entirely new computer just to freakin' play this game. -Sigh- What happened to the days of only using one core not 2 or more?
