It hasn't died, folks.  The completion of the long-delayed remodeling will let me set my server back up this weekend (Sunday at 11:59 p.m. AST, probably- I'm workin' on it) and the pics will be back and the next update will follow ASAP.

    Thanks for everyone's continued interest.

    David

It's certainly been forever since the last update. Your updates were very informative and I learned a lot about playing the game (interesting that somebody who has been playing Simcity games since the '90s would say that; there's so much more to learn!)

    Well, hello again.

You might have noticed the server came back up a while ago.  The pics all seem back on line (let me know if any aren't).

I don't have any more time today to get the continuation of the update up, but I will leave you with a few teaser pics of the expanded areas of 3RR that I worked on during the last few weeks but didn't have anywhere to serve pics from.  These are from 10 days or so ago, so there's been further development.

    Back soon.  Enjoy.

Glad to see your CJ is up and running again.  I hope everything turned out ok and as planned.

With your update and your server on, I finally put the pictures with the words and I'm awestruck.  Simply gorgeous.  I only skimmed the first 2 pages and felt my head spinning with information overload.  30.gif  Now to just take the time to read through it again to absorb it, especially about your plugins.

The things I particularly enjoyed was your approach to SimCity, kinda like "SC for Dummies" (no insult intended or directed toward anyone).  Well done.

I also loved your farmland.  I live in a larger city in Illinois.  Wouldn't you know it, there are farms right in the middle of  this town!

I've just hit the subscribe button and look forward to more updates.  I still have some reading in your CJ to catch up on but it's superb from what I've read so far.  Kudos.  44.gif

P.S. More comments in another forthcoming post. 41.gif

    3rrsecsplash024d39c48ti0.jpg

I couldn't sleep, so I got up and decided to put together another in the series of "Shameless Eye Candy" posts.  It may still be a bit 'til the next update post, and I have so much nice mail from folks who've borne with me while 3RR (now 3RR-X, I guess) was on hiatus.  I have two major trials the week after Memorial Day (U.S.), so the coming week may still be update-free.

    In the meantime...

    ...here's SEC No. 2
    ____________________________________________________

The 3RR heliputer has been out flying over some of the expanded region area to the north.

    #1
    sec02004dd36c7ru4.jpg

Here's some initial limited access highway placement in a yet to be named northwest township.  The junction at the upper right of the pic bears some closer scrutiny...

    #2
    sec02014dddea0cx4.jpg

Yes, it's the 3RR-X DOT's effort to create the 45 degree convergence interchange that's so badly needed in the NAM.  It would appear to use the NAM ramps to perpendicular one-way roads, which have no arrows because of Tropod's NoOneWayArrows mod.  I guess we'll see later if these are tried anywhere else, and if they actually work, in the RH sense.

    Moving north...

    #3
    sec02024de887cjc6.jpg

Why would anyone put a ground highway ending at a stream?.

    #4
    sec02034dfb9a9sn9.jpg

Oh.  Cheap terraforming tricks.  Move along, move along...nothing to see here.  Except...

    #5
    sec02044e05221ck0.jpg

Check out the transition here from surface to "game" water.  It can work, visually, but the wish list for the surface water gods (are you out there, brtim2 and Vandy?) just gets longer and longer.

Heading even further north, we fly the heliputer hign over one of the new smaller townships, this one featuring a long mountain valley up to a pass at the boundary to the east.

    #6
    sec02054e0e45emt0.jpg

Let's drop down into the valley...

    #7
    sec02064e26fffxp0.jpg

Tough place to grade a road.  Wonder where it goes...

    #8
    sec02074e3751bxj4.jpg

Referring to the map, we see that the north east expanded area is beginning to fill in since the pic last posted.  The limited access highway network here draws up into the few routes that leave the more developed area and proceed on out into SimNation.

    #9
    sec02084e952d1gh0.jpg

Here's a particular stretch of freeway that replaced the old road across the hills by tunneling under them.  The old road is still in use up to the ends of the bridge that was probably removed a long time ago.

    #10
    sec02094ea0548mp5.jpg

A little to the west, area around the fork of a river has its share of interesting transportation features...

    #11
    sec02104eb7f55ux4.jpg

I always wondered how close the ends of two large "game" bridges could be.

    #12
    sec02114ecc16boc6.jpg

Just north of the twin spans just seen, a railroad ducks under the freeway as it dips toward the level of it's bridge across the western fork of the river.

    #13
    sec02124ed894erk5.jpg

Even further west, a long railroad bridge crosses another river and if ollowed by a short one over a nearby gorge.  We'll gain some elevation...

    #14
    sec02134ee7c88la2.jpg

...and see that the bridge requires a major bend in otherwise north-south trackage.

    #15
    sec02144ef8e56wq6.jpg

One last pass a little further north discloses a terraformed and wooded area west of a large lake.  Note the short railroad bridge over a "surface water" stream just after the tunnel.

    #16
    sec02154f03c68ry4.jpg

As the heliputer turns east and south and heads for home, one last highway feature comes into view, this time an incomplete three-corner interchange (I love the German term for such- drei-ecke).  Who knows how long it will be 'til the freeway to the west, apparently a future outer-ring bypass, will be built?  Maybe tomorrow...maybe never.  Like Mel Brooks said (several times across several movies), "It's good to be king."

Take care until next time, readers.  Thanks for stopping by.

This like an update already, it shows how to build a nice transit network full of small details and easy to follow steps. Great as usual my friend. Keep them coming. 4.gif

    Don't get me wrong David,

But If you do this kind of work everytime you're not sleeping, I certainly wish that you'll have some insomnia fit in the following days/weeks 2.gif !

Some really cool ideas about those 45 degrees angle highway connection, also railway bridges that spans not only water but water and terrain, (I liked that!).

But the thing I liked the most was pic no 5... that transition between ingame water and plopped water!!!!! I'm flabbergasted! I don't know how it looks on your screen, but on mine the demarcation is barely noticeable! could you tell us what water mod and wich color of ploppable water you're using?

And I know that I'm sometimes a detail freak, but you're beating me with that attention to details naturewise, looking how you've places those rocks, flora and logs.... just love it!

It's really a pleasure to see you back into the game!

Looking forward for more of this!

    Take care

    John
