Good start, but just some advice... maybe you should have more of a suburban effect rather than build up the biggest buildings as fast as you can.  You don't have to listen though49.gif

I vote #3. It is located in a bay good for shipping and docks. It also has a river running right through it. In addition it has relatively flat land and a large city plot.

    CBD LOCATION - POLL RESULTS

Thanks again everyone for your participation. 2.gif

When I updated this CJ yesterday the results were 12-3-12, meaning it could have been a very close call between Area 1 and Area 3. The outcome is somehow different:

    Votes: 33
    Area 1: 13 (39%)
    Area 2: 3 (9%)
    Area 3: 17 (52%)

The purpose of this CJ is to enable people to participate more actively to the development of the region they see. But another interest for me was to introduce new challenges, such as for instance developing areas in a way I wouldn't have thought of. 42.gif
I should be really happy then, because my vote went to area 1 (I thought it'd look really impressive), but the majority rules: I'll develop my main skyline in zone 3 9.gif
I'll work on my region this week-end, continue my little storyboard and post pics on Monday.
    Look out for the update.

    Coming next:
    * what to do with the waterfront? 42.gif
    * a poll for the poll: name the region! 10.gif

    TWO POLLS IN ONE...

    1. Considering Area 3 will be the main business area of my region, I'm left with a biiiig question that haunts me: what am I gonna do with the waterfront at the entrance of the bay?
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//reg3.jpg align=baseline>

You have three different options to choose from:
    1. A sprawling industrial area
    2. A recreational area (stadium, golf course...?)
    3. A mid-sized exclusive residential area

    2. Here's a little game to name the city holding the CBD... You have a right to submit any name you like (multiple proposals are welcome). Comes the deadline, I'll pick up the 3 or 4 names I liked most (yes I do get to do something once in a while...!) and organize a vote so that you eventually determine what the city will be called.

The deadline for both projects (defining a role for the waterfront / suggest names for the business district) is the end of the week-end, i.e. Monday, 3am EST.
Yes that is right... since you have two questions to answer you will have more time (and I'll have time to develop my region some more!)

    VOTE!!!!

(Feel free to vote for only one question if you don't care about the other topic!)

Area 1 should be a huge recreational area, it would also be cool with long beaches etc29.gif

My suggestion for the CBD name:
    Ownington 2.gif

I go with the residential area. (As a side note, I suggest placing the golf course and stadium halfway between the water front and the CBD.)

And I think the city should be called Collingwood, in memory of the old, beautiful forest that had to be demolished in order to make room for the new metropolis 19.gif

    1) A residential area, for sure.

    2) For the CBD, I suggest...

    Ambrosia
    Democrocia

Those are my best offerings right now...my names for my own cities are usually boringly utilitarian or a silly inside joke among my friends!  21.gif

    1) High wealth residential area with some clubs to go out on a saturdaynight and tourist attractions..

    2) A name?? I have knwo idea Im always using Dutch names but I don't think that should be good here, or all Dutchies have to support my name haha. Maybe something called Veren is good?

I gotta go with Option #2.  Would look great as a rec area.

I would submit Tremont Point as the name of the CBD.

    2. With a big kind of park on the island and some broadwalks around the other bit.

    A name I like:
    Ashby Quays

A combination of 2 and 3 would be nice - recreational areas along the shore with expensive residential neighborhoods. If I can only choose one, I'll go with 2. For names, I'm not feeling too creative today, so how about Salem from the American soap opera Days of Our Lives? 30.gif

A residential area would fit perfectly there.

You could also make that island in the middle of the bay a naval base 11.gif

    1. An industrial area... It would give great access to the sea, and also almost to everywhere in the region (with the bay access). Even though it's not a concept existing in simcity, it would give a nice touch of realism to your region!

    2. I would name the CBD.... Sandstorm Point or Wind Alleys!

    Answer to question 1:
since it is a BIG map for the bay, I suggest the following:

    a. the 'q' like island will consist of cliff facing the ocean, and bays facing the inner land, in which you could build:
    i) recreational (NO golf course, because I don't know where will the golf-ball fly since this area will face strong wind blowing from all directions42.gif)
    ii) low-density, high-wealth residential
I STRONGLY suggest that we build a lighthouse in this area
    b. the NE side will be residential area
    c. the SE area will be a industrial area, with a regional seaport on the diagonal area of the map, afacing the ocean.
    d. put some nice looking landmarks (something like statue of liberty) on the smaller island

bridges can be built across the islands to connect the industrial area and the residential area.

Answer to question 2: well, I really have no idea. I would accept any good name.

I suggest the residential option. What rich and snooty Sim wouldn't want to live there? As for the name, I have 3 proposals:

    Turtle Bay

    MacArthur Cove

    Oak Inlet

Option One, and call the CBD Fortissimo. It's a musical term meaning Very Loud, which is what the CBD likely will be.

Make the bay entrance a park and possibly mix some residential with it. As for the name... what about Zenith Bay? It just popped in my mind... 1.gif
