This is the best new idea i have seen on here. I love playing with scale and the idea of covering such a broad spectrum. I also think its cool to bring in a few small places like vaduz and luxembourg to give it a wider scope as well. I think it would be cool to include the "Bos-Wash" or north east megalopolis as an opportunity to create a place of substantial size with many interesting landmarks and a high population..just like the real world.

The worst building in the world
ElectroClash replied to tcx's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
Explaining the Habitat: The idea was make it so every room in every flat had a balcony or window. Also this type of building could be built out of prefabricated pieces put together in endless iterations to make apartments of any size and numerous layouts. Also the paterns could be build to fit any shaped plot of land. -
Its almost perfect with the exception that St. Albert is off kilter by about 15 degrees counter clockwise, fool. Yeah, im totally not serious. I am pretty amazed that a lot of the major arteries that run through the suburbs are so straight. Edmonton looks a lot like many medium sized American cities. I think one of the major differences is that most of the metro population is part of the central city that covers a larger area...where in the US the many inner suburbs would be several seperate municipalities.

The red streets and green landscape are complimentary. Although its not as realistic. It is highly unique. Like a place all its own. I think if you could have decent snow in the game i could imagine it as being a nordic christmas village of somekind.

beautiful..walk down memory lane for basically all of us. There were so many things that they did right with that game and its nice to think about it in its own right independent of SC4..so i will even avoid the inevitable comparisons. I REALLY liked the soundtrack for this game and wish i could have it now. I would even listen to it over mp3's because it fit the game so well. And i liked the well drawn animations of your civic advisors. They were cool... Thanks.

Aleking Good idea expanding the map, it has even better composition now with the increase in territory. There is really an astonishing amount of variation in your region. I like the idea of a ski resort even though i suck a$$ at skiing, its something ive been thinking about adding to my region with some uncertainty about how to do it. So the dark green is a different elevation. This is done through using cycledoggs modd? I tried to get it but couldnt the site was down..maybe you had more luck and got it while it was up.. If you could please tell me the name of the asian buildings in your recent update i would much appreciate it (they look great in nightshots *wink wink*)...thank you.

<---Unlurks Aleking, I rarely rear my ugly head but ive gotta say this cj is off the chain. I basically moved through it quickly just reading your posts and updates but im going to go back and read it in its entirety tomorrow. Whenever i read your posts i hear karls voice in my head. It rocks! anyways your terraforming is some of the best i have seen. The mountains are really well done and show that a lot of work has been put into them creating and separating the various ridges. I wish i could be that patient. I love the variation in the values of greenage youve got going on there too...seriously. How do you get the dark green trees to build up that nice contrast in your region view. Speaking of, i can tell you play with the region view in mind, as do i. The result is worth it. The cities are well positioned and scaled properly which is so rare that when you see it its just awesome. I love the realisitc but non boring approach to city building. The downtowns you have made have a really great mix of buildings and are APPROPRIATE for the rest of the city. The diagonal suburbs are different. You should check out google maps in southeastern portland i believe they build a triangular suburb just like what you have going on outside the big cities. I see you keep throwing down cities on the coast. I was just curious if this is part of a plan or are you just developing the land because its there. I always have the temptation to break with my plan and wind up with the suburbs coalescing into a mega city Either way...even if you fill up the space it will be impressive and im interested to see what the regional population would be like. Mariner Falls metro area & The Isle of Sark
ElectroClash replied to ElectroClash's topic in SC4 City Journals
Im ending this one, which is the fate of so many city journals. It really never got off the ground. Too bad i never really got to show off the completed touristy region of Guinavere which was my favorite part of the region. Or a very balanced nice looking, appropriate downtown mariner falls. I blame a large number of things for this. 1. Updates were too infrequent. I would complete large areas and it was not organized and chronicaled as well as i would have liked. 2. Story telling was not present. 3. Lack of response. 4. It was too extended, i got sick of the region. Old techniques have become obsolete. 5. RLS 6. mostly the bug/load error in the game lead to its demise. Things that were a major success were: 1. The isle of sark...this was imported from another region and may make it into my next region. 2. The city of Guinavere is my best yet. Could still be better, next time around. 3. Landscape. Things that could improve. 1. presentation 2. technical execution. although i think my cities are better than a lot that i have seen, they are not among the best. I am good at balance and aesthetics but i think i could execute better. -
Wow great idea having inhabitants like this. Your story is very cool, it seems like you use science fact to form your idea of science fiction which makes the whole thing more realistic and entertaining in my opinion. I'm electroclash I would like to have a piece of real estate in the green zone there on the river. Not too close to downtown Vita but still in the Residential area and on the river. My occupation is, industrial design. fresh import from earth.

Growth in the past month has generally gone in all directions, but mainly east of antwerp, in guinavere and out onto Song Island, as well as a lot of urban renewal in Mariner Falls/Antwerp/Guinavere which are the three main burroughs. I still have upclose photos of how the city used to look before the changes and how it looks now. But the university and avon park still look pretty similar. Also notice the two large bridges that have popped up, hinting at the direction of future development. Here is an updated region view. http://img214.exs.cx/img214/5126/marinerfalls11129715328sx.jpg align=baseline> -
hello darmok, amazing work here there are a lot of very good builders here on ST. A lot of these killer journals get overlooked, im glad a stumbled onto yours. I have a question. What is the very large light color building you have a pic of in phase_14_015.jpg i believe it is. It is also on the first page of your journal twice. It looks segmented into two parts that have some type of arch connecting them with a road passing underneath. Very cool. I think i have a place for that in Antwerp. Thx.

Mariner Falls University was created in 1889. It is just west of the historical old town district. The canals weave around and through campus. The two tall brick buildings are on campus housing. They are named Brewster and Bowen and they are dorms for underclassmen mostly freshmen and sophmores. More of the upper classmen either live off campus, commute, and some of them live in the old townhouses near the athletic center which have been purchased by the university and remodled to serve the needs of upperclassmen students. It is a short walk to class but bus stops are still provided. http://img230.exs.cx/img230/874/universityarea2ep.jpg align=baseline> They have a research center, school of broadcast journalism(easily seen with its radio and television towers), library, school of engineering (square shaped building with courtyard) as well as a full athletics center, college green, and a full technology center/ research park. Most of the gen ed classes are held on the old university area as well as the social sciences and education classes. At the extreme bottom of the screen you can see the Alpha Chi Rho frat house ( old victorian mansion with the green roof). There are many others further west on that street which is called Ward Street. The other on campus building to the left is called Skyler, rather unpopular since it is far from most classes. There is a walkway that edges on the right side of the screen cap called The procession which runs through the entire city unimpeded crossing over each avenue with a pedestrian elevated bridge. It actually detours right through the old college campus green for one block shown here. I was thinking of making another screencap with all the lables but i was affraid it would be really cluttered and prevent anyone from seeing anything. -

After another day night decends upon Mariner Falls, people who have some free time tend to enjoy visiting Avon Park which lies at the very core of the city, just north of the main business district. Here the beautiful statues and fountains reflect light up into the heavens. It is an unusually warm spring evening and everyone is feeling lots of endorphines Strolling through the park you can here the the orchestra rehearsing in the opera house as well as the cities street sounds coming from Shamrock Ave. South. http://img135.exs.cx/img135/2747/centralparknight5pf.jpg align=baseline>
