Good job Nedal, this is really a top-city journal! 44.gif
The very realistic development process and the involvement of some readers make this region alive! There are also many buildings I haven't seen before, but I was very surprised to see the 'Drukkerij All Print' building in the commercial district of Bollanne. I have seen that building in real life! I believe it's in Utrecht, Netherlands, but I'm not really sure. Can you tell me where you got it from?

And, congratulations with your 8th page!

    Hey, all a CJer can ask is for replies like yours guys.  Keeps me motivated!

    Colijn: I actually downloaded it from STEX, from the Holland set.  There are alot of Dutch buildings on STEX, I dont remember who the maker is, but whoever it is, thank you so much! They are some of the best buildings out there and add alot of character to my cities!

    kingofsimcity: Hehehe, well hope you were impressed enough to come back and stay tuned, maybe even participate!

    RHF: Thank you for your unwavering support of this CJ.  I love what you are doing with your CJ, Thistlewood.  I just gotta learn how to add working links on my sig to put it on there!

    Anyway, on to the update.  Pretty big one:

    - Having taken a hit in his popularity, Mayor Green has set out to make things right, and the first thing he has done is try to answer Mayfina's call for wider roads.  Working night and day, he has transformed the eastern part of Mayfina Main with his construction of the new Dumont Avenue.  The construction contract was given to Mayor Falcon of Nahren's construction company, Falcon Construction Inc.

    <ahttp://img15.exs.cx/img15/2600/dumontavenue20062co.jpg align=baseline>

    - The biggest news, however, is the development that has taken place infront of Monument Park.  See if you can follow me on this: Citibank approached Olberding Architecture President, Logan Olberding, about buying The Pillance and the land it was on.  After a price was negotiated, Olberding agreed.  Citibank then went ahead and demolished the new building and built the tallest structure in Riviera, the Mayfina Citibank Building.  But what of all the residents of The Pillance, you might be asking? Interestingly enough, Olberding took the money paid by Citibank, bought the land right next to it, and developed The Mercury, Mayfina's newest Luxury Condo wonder.  The residents of The Pillance were offered either a refund, with interest, or a new apartment in The Mercury.  Needless to say, almost everyone took the apartment offer. Prices for The Mercury are as follows:

    1 Bedroom: $355,000
    2 Bedroom: $490,000
    3 Bedroom: $645,000
    Penthouse Loft: $1.3 million

    As for Citibank opening, this spells trouble for both Cole Zenith's Zenith Global Bank, and Mayor Green's Bransworth Bank.  We'll see where these banking wars go...

    Finally, its been a while seen we viewed Mayfina from the sky, and it has changed quite a bit.  So for your viewing pleasures, here is Mayfina.....at night!

    Congratulations Logan on your new apartment building! Although that Funk chap can't be too happy about Citibank moving in...wonder what he and Zenith will do to counter the situation! (By the way, clindhartsen has a great tutorial on how to put links in your signature, just search for it and you should find it some place.)

    After months of 24 hour a day construction work (thanks to Falcon Construction), the Highway, called I - 10, was completed.  At first sight, it looks like the highway is too far away from the urbanized area to truly be effective, but the President, ofcourse, had his eye to the future. Taking into account the inevitable expansion of the cities, the President placed the highway more inland to accomodate that.  Plus, this leaves from for future construction.  Mayfina has 3 exits, Sallam has 2, and Nahren and Brickell have one.  The residents of Sallam who work in Mayfina have been promised a high density avenue along the coast all the way down to downtown Mayfina.

    It looks like Mayfina and Sallam have merged like I said they might a few pages ago. I wonder what the future holds for my apartment tower construction, especially in Brickell.

    First time I've looked at this CJ. Very nice indeed. Nice mix of pictures and text and the story line and pictures go together very well. The development (in the game) is very clean. Nice smooth roads and mix of trees and buildings. Guess I'll have to put this CJ on my list of those to follow.
    One suggestion though: ... a little thing. Turn off the screen menu before you take pictures. Hide the menu, take the pic, then turn the menu back on. Also, I read back on the first couple of pages about taking photos. I am guessing you've found a way to do it that you like but I'd like to offer my approach (if this isn't what you do already).
    1. Hide the menu
    2. use alt+printscreen to capture the screen image
    3. bring back the game menu and pause the game
    4. hit the windows key (to the left of the left alt key or to the right of the right alt key)
    5. open MS-Paint
    6. Paste (ctrl+v) the screen capture into MS-Paint
    7. Save As (from within MS-Paint) selecting .jpg as the file format (I find that MS-Paint compresses .jpg files pretty well. smaller file size)
    8. Exit MS-Paint
    9. click on the SC4 icon on your status bar and you're back in SC4 (no need to quit SC4 to save your screen capture)
    Good luck and keep up the good work.
    I'll be back. (arnold the terminator voice)

    Believe in only what you can prove.

    Nice placement of the highway to accomodate future growth. Maybe some day it will be an urban freeway? That would be kinda neat to see. 1.gif

    Kingofsimcity: I have most of your mods and BATS, and yes, including the tree lots! Keep 'em coming!

    RHF:  I searched and couldnt find it....Could you post a link if its not too much trouble? And speaking of population booms, I can tell you that Sallam and Brickell have already grown by around 6,000 each because of the highway this year.

    Leech10: Yeah, it was inevitable that Mayfina and Sallam connect. Soon they will become interchangeable cities, I feel.

    tinnyboy_gummi: Actually, what you gave me instructions to is exactly what Ive been trying to do! Thank you so much.

    Oreon: It definitely will be an urban highway is some parts, and the highway itself is subject to expansion!

    Thanks for the comments guys, those who want to participate, just drop me a line with the characters name, profession, place of residence, and if you want me or you to control him or her.  An update will be coming soon, perhaps tonight!

    I have just joined Simtropolis but have been following this City Journal for quite some time. I must say this is one of the best City Journals I have seen due to its attention to detail.

    Here we go with another update! I want to thank all the current participants and the future ones.  Quite a few number of people have expressed their interest in joining the CJ, so things should become very exciting! However, there are a few guidelines I would like all of you guys to follow:

    1) Please dont roleplay actions for any other characters but your own. For example, Character X wants to open up a branch in Character Y's city.  The owner of Character X cannot bribe Character Y with money and have him accept.  Instead Character X can announce intentions to bribe Character Y, and if the owner of Character Y agrees, then a deal can be made.

    2) Deals and alliances between characters can be out in the open (in the CJ forum) or secretly between the two characters through the use of PM.  However, if you guys are using PMs, just copy and paste your conversations and send them to me so I have an idea of whats going on.

    3) Not every desicion is going to go your way! There will be ups and downs in everyone of your characters lives. You might lose an election, you might be run out of office, the company might go bankrupt, but always keep in mind, I will always bring your character back up.  There will be heartbreaks, yes, but there also will be many successes.

    4) When we get to later stages, your characters will inevitably die.  When that happens, I will just use the son or daughter, whichever you guys want, to continue the family legacy!

    Alright, thats all the rules I have to say.  Keep the CJ fun, and more importantly, you guys have fun! On to the update:

    <ahttp://img234.exs.cx/img234/4973/shanks20065gt.jpg align=baseline>

    - With all the business and political battles going on, it was inevitable that someone opened up a law firm.  Jeremy Shanks, owner of Shanks Law Firm (seen above), opened his offices in Mayfina, but plans to represent clients all over the island.  With an impeccable reputation in London, his talents will certainly be of use here in Riviera.

    - Heading over to Sallam, the city continues to develop in a fast way.  With experts predicting Sallam to pass Nahren's population within months to become the 2nd biggest city on the island, the growth and investment Sallam is experiencing is phenomenal.  Mayor Yorke has done a fantastic job of promoting the city, claiming a big victory when he managed to convince the Phillips Electronic company, who have their factory in Mayfina, to open up their headquarters in Riveria here in Sallam:

    <ahttp://img229.exs.cx/img229/5389/phillipsbuilding20066ln.jpg align=baseline>

    - Mayor Yorke's RHF Real Estate has also been busy developing the city, with two new buildings completed and, not suprisingly sold out.  The reason why these buildings get sold out so quick are two reasons: The fact that the prices are lower here in Sallam, and the market is not yet saturated.  The first building, a little more in land, is the tallest structure in Sallam, The Malagarre.  The second is one of Mr. Yorke's more artistic designs, Lake Point Apartments, on Redrance Boulevard.

    <ahttp://img229.exs.cx/img229/5837/lakepoint20064fu.jpg align=baseline>

    Finally, here is an overview shot of the region, with the population of all the towns as 2006 comes to a close.

    Yes, I did feel like branching out a little bit on my latest projects. Perhaps the owner of the new law firm would like to establish an office in Sallam?

    Alex Funk, representative in the House of Parliament, and staunch opposition leader of Mayor Green, issued this statement:

    I believe the President has not done enough concerning Mayor Green's blatant abuse of Cole Zenith's rights.  Therefore, I am announcing that I want to take matters into my own hands.  I would like to employ Jeremy Shank, owner of Shank Law Firm, to investigate further and possibly charge Mayor Green with illegal behaviour and abuse of power.  I have not contacted Mr. Zenith about this, and if he shows his support, then great.  If he would rather not be involved, so be it.  I refuse to let Green get away with this.  I am awaiting responses from both Mr. Shank and Mr. Zenith.  Thank you.

    Funk, who is close to obsessed in taking down Mayor Green, continues to throw all his influence and power behind his mission.  He has a very powerful (and rich) ally in Cole Zenith, if indeed he jumps onboard.

    - In other news, the Riviera FA Cup was won, for the second year in a row, by West Mayfina FC.  They defeated the vastly improved AC Sallam 2 - 0 in the final.  Superstar Bud Yutz scored both goals for West Mayfina FC.

    To: Alex Funk, Representative.
    From: The Board of Directors of Zenith Global Bank

    On behalf of Cole Zenith, the Chairman of the Board, we at Zenith Global Bank support the investigation of Mayor Green. At this time funding will be available if the need should arise in any legal matters. Please note that Zenith Global Bank, directors, and Cole Zenith support only an investigation. We do not wish to involve the corporation in a legal battle until the investigation report has been reviewed.

    May you pursue your endeavors wisely Mr. Funk.

    To: Mayor Yorke
    From: Cole Zenith

    Mayor Yorke,
    As you've most likely already noted, Sallam is booming. Let me be the first of droves to congratulate you on your success. I am going to skip the pleasantries and be direct. I would like to offer you a deal. Zenith Global Bank is looking to add a new branch. The Board of Directors will agree with me when I inform them that a branch in Sallam will be the best choice. In return I am willing to give RHF Real Estate the bid to construct a new flagship tower for Zenith Global Bank in Mayfina. I am also looking for support in the recent issues concerning Mayor Green. I would be obliged if you made your opinion public.

    Cole Zenith

    In other news, Cole Zenith has bought season tickets to the local sports events.

    Well, West Mayfina FC is a power in the region, and we were glad to make it to the finals. Looks like all those practices really helped...

    Re: Zenith Global Branch in Sallam.

    Dear Mr. Zenith,

    Sallam would be happy to host your flagship tower. I would be happy to design it for you. This will hopefully augment Sallam's boom to an even higher level. And I agree that Mayor Green has gone too far. I am supporting Mr. Funk and yourself. This pertains to my request that a branch of Shank Law Firm be built in Sallam...hopefully we can resolve the situation.

    Due to the recent radical actions of the city government, Zenith Global Bank has hired extra security to protect the bank and its customers. Unmarked security vehicles can be seen patrolling around the tower and adjacent blocks. Civilian clothed security personell patrol the tower's streets and interior by foot.
