I've just been working on some industrial parts of Caledonia, I closed the game and entered simtropolis because I got bored with all those factories... There's an update of AVR! And what do I see? Industry-industry and industry 22.gif very funny 18.gif

You don't post mosaic too often, do you? Nice to see some of them today. I really like the freight rail stations, they're all long and wide and that's realistic. i also like the fact you've got there not only hi-tech but some dirty industry too.

You're going for vacations this week? Hehe, me too 1.gif Where are you going? (or where have you been if you won't answer this before you come back). My destination is Croatia (4th time!). I really hope you will have a great time!

Good work John!

I really enjoy your approach to city-building/CJ-ing. How you approach it one "sector" at a time, if only I could do that. See, I get a little over-ambitious, and then all of a sudden I've got a mess on my hands. I'm going to do some tidying up, then take some pictures, sorry for not following up on what I said in my last post. It's been so hot here lately, I don't feel like doing much!

Have a great vacation, and relax!!!

Amazing work as always.  Great detail, it's good to see you never take any short cuts in your work.  But where do you find the time to update all the time?  It's summer,  I know that I don't like to spend my time on the computer when I could be outside swimming or just lounging with some friends having a nice cold beer (just about frozen that is!!)  Ohhh and Barbequing is a must.  Anyways I'm taking a break, I think I have only played once or twice in the last few weeks and only posted on other CJ during work.  HA ha, if they only knew what I did while here at work.

Well back to the pics.....I had an idea.  While looking at everyone's CJ, I always see 90 degree turns for trains....a little unrealistic....is it laziness or just not knowing that trains can't turn like that.  A good detail to add to your CJ would be more angles on the tracks.  Just an idea.....

Enjoy your summer cause I know I will, Bye for now and keep the great pics coming!!!

Hey Darmok -

So nice to see such a nice industrial area. You make it very pleasant to look at and with industry that is not so easy to do! I particularly like your freight rail area - that looks very nice. Is that a custom station? I really like how the industry grew up around it.

I also really like that avenue overpass - you do such an amazing job with those. I particularly like the way the avenue seems to gracefully slope.

Thanks for the great update! Keep up the beautiful work!

Enjoy your vacation! You will see me waiting for you in this thread as always. 3.gif

Btw, that's a nice qoute, but yet, it is such a true qoute.

Great job John. You have TE everything it seems. That must have taken a very long time mate. But it looks beautiful. I especially love the bridges and how you have placed them..

Hi cityhawk, sometimes I keep it on (the grid) so we can better see the tiered effects of the terrain.quote>

I know what you mean. I did that in my CJ in my latest update as well, but I specified that I turned on the grid so that nobody would say that I forgot to turn off the grid.

Anyway, great attention to detail in the "railroad related lots" and the industry sector as a whole. The whole area looks beautiful as well because of the nice trees and the river. I look forward to more!

I'm glad I could make it back aroudn these parts just before you took off for your vacation. I think it has been about 3 updates but they are all spectacular. Out of curiousity... the building that is on the left hand side of the railyard... is that a game building that grew there or was it re-purposed as a prop for a lot? Going back to the previous update, (pic 6 to be specific) that is an amazingly sloped road/bridge. No kinks, just right. Its good to see the inclusion of details such as the small commercial strip and sound walls in pic 8. To let you know, I have (finally) started work on a cj of my own that I hope to debut sometime in August. and this cj is probably on of the main reasons why. Thank you, and enjoy your vacation.

2.gif

Anyways, have a fantastic vacation, hope to hear from you, and I can't wait to see more pictures, despite the fact that I will have to wait! 45.gif  Oh well, take it easy! 48.gif

Looks great, John.

For industrial zoning, have you thought about holding down Ctrl, then zone industrial to give set plots? It ensures that you get what you want, industrial-wise.

I remember that tunnel that goes under the highway. If I remember correctly, you had such a hard time building it. 3.gif

Wonderful update Darmok. Nice industrial area (in the appropriate sense of the word). It looks really good. I love using rail through my industrial sectors, and it looks like I'm not the only one. Great work/play.
Also, have an amazing holiday. Hope everything goes to plan, and you have safe travels, and most of all, enjoy the time with your family and friends. Looking forward to some stories and a nice update when you get back...

Bonjour John.

Je suis désolé que j'ai raté beaucoup de mises à jour. Work was taking over lately which kept me from regularly visiting ST. But that, on the other hand, gave me the possibility to flip through so many new AVR updates at once, that it is quite a compensation. Now John, I actually planned to comment update by update and I've already started a Notepad file (thanks for the tip, btw), but realized that it would probably exceed the character limit for a post... so I'll try to keep this post as short as possible 4.gif.

Once again your attentention to details is amazing in all of your recent updates. Bruinen Fjord is coming along very nicely and it seems like you didn't leave out any occasion to place a stair, pedestrian walkway or pedestrian overpass. And the layout always is very logical: The commerce-industry combo (update 6, page 95) for example is very close to reality. The suburbs close to it first seem to be quite a contrast, but they're actually well seperated. Other details that caught my eyes were the parking lots seperating the apartment buildings (update 7, page 96), the train station setting (same update, the dirt tracks are remarkable), the natural looking waterfront (updates 8 & 15), the doughnut shop in update 13 of course (they really seem to have a secret intelligence to track down the police station and pop up nearby...) and especially the walkway leading up to the education complex (update 15, page 105; I love that complex, great learning environment).

Talking about details, I'm impressed by your LE work. The cycleway parking lot looks very nice and the Rural Trail Set will add even more possibilities for farming areas.

I also liked the little pieces of humour: Frau Schinkenwurst und Frau Kartoffelpuffer, eh? Hilarious.

But it's a shame that I've missed your Page 100 celebrations. Congratulations on that, that's an impressive milestone in CJ history. And in that context, I love the collages, all the information you dug out... I really feel welcome here (I'm sure everyone does 4.gif).

Once again, sorry for my lack of visits and keep up your amazing work my friend.

Take care and have a great vacation!

- Phil

Don't answer this, dude, or we'll know you are not really on vacation...

Are you not capable of simply "acceptable" effort?  Why does everything in AVR always seem so perfect?

Because it is, I guess...all nine of you (you know to what I'm referring) must be on holiday at the same time.

Anduin Valley is awesome, fantastic, wonderful, great, outstanding, super, magnificent, cool, new, revisitied, huge, original, realistic, mind blowing, freakishly good, splendifirous (is that a word?), supercallifragilisticexpialladocious, really really really good, im running out of things to say, going, going gone...

Great work John!

Hope you're having a killer time en vacances!

Good luck!

Nice update darmok(there, it's right! =P), well mrbisonm said that he's still gonna continue Nexis. I've been thinking about starting my own CJ, something tells me that it'll be interesting because my techniques came from Nexis, Simtropia, Green Dep, Botania and Anduin Valley. maybe I'll start it this month or early August. Unlike you guys, summer has passed for me.

Oh well, that's life...

Looking forward to your next update

Great update Darmok! It was nice to see how you develop an industrial area. I agree with Rheal above...I like your approach to developing one sector at a time. I tend to just pick a spot and keep developing outward like spilled koolaid. I never really have much of an overall plan. Hopefully, I can learn something in your CJ.

Thanks,

Dana

Hey John, I hope you to have a great time on your vacations, about the update as usual is very well done, the way you made those small terraces is very nice, I tend to like them as the buildings look more real on flat areas, the location of the freight station is very nice too, great industrial area.

Au revoir mon ami, et bonnes vacances à toi.

G...

I haven't been here since about page 3... And my goodness... This is simply awesome, Darmok! I have about 100 pages to look back over but I'm not annoyed... I'm going to really enjoy looking over them! Basically, you are a master, and you deserve to be knighted for this work. Fantastic. It's beautiful.

John,

Altough I looked at the last update on the day it was released I must have been overwhelmed by the pictures because I just noticed I hadn't replied to it. Shame on me.

What I especially like about the last update is the "flow" of the highway downwards to the birdge crossing the river. I has an ultimate natural feel when I look at it. Futhermore I have always like your "section" wise updates. This way we, the readers, become familiar with your way of thinking and planning, which is all so important to us city builders to get ideas and inspiration. AVR has been, and still is, one of my most favorite places to visit.

Nic.
