    Thanks for the support folks1.gif

As any STEX visitor will see, I've now uploaded the Dixon-Kennedy Stadium, which is a bit of a relief, as it's render issues were weighing me down a bit.

With that done, I'm pressing to finish the modern stadium, before then looking to complete the sunken stadium, or maybe going back to the River Park stadium (I also have a couple of other things part-done if neither of those two go well).

The modern stadium is looking good to be finished soon. It needs some seats in the corners (which are taking ages), some textures, and a few details, and it should be ready. I hope to have it out by the end of the coming week.

I did a render on the modern stadium, and although unfortunately some textures didn't come out and I forgot goals, it looks quite good. Just a few fixes and it may be ready for the STEX.

It's been a while since I posted in here, aminly because I end up with no replies and don't really like double posting. I thought I'd start posting in here occasionally again though, trying to get feedback and improvements on my BATs before they're released.

In this post I'm showing five stadium projects which are somewhere from just started, to nearly finished (I'll indicate how much done I tihnk each is with the pic). Tell me which you like, wihch are worthless, and what improvements you can see to any of them.

    1. Medium Athletics Stadium: About 20% of the way into this, started it last night. It's based loosely around a picture for the design of Letzigrund a stadium in Switzerland, although with all my real-life based projects, the final thing will be a little away from the actual thing.

    athleticsstadiumvearlybu7.jpg

    2. Small Football Stadium. About 70% done I'd say, with most of the modelling done, but no textures or anything yet. IThis is based on Stadion Brühl in Switzerland.

    bruehlgmaxpicum8.jpg

    3. Small Football Ground. About 50% done, with the stand mostly modelled, but I need to do the surround of the picth and entrances as well as texturing. The stand isn't based of any real life one, but the idea of a curved roof was based of a stand at St. Gallen's ground in Switzerland.

    curvedstandfirstpichz9.jpg

    4. Small Football Stadium: About 75% done, with the two stands pretty much done and textured.. I need ot do the things around them though, and the entrances. The ground is based on the Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.

    rheinparkgmaxpicxa8.jpg

    5. Velodrome: This is about 30% done, with only the main thing BATted. For it to look good, I fell it will need a lot on the lot, as the BAT itself is pretty simple. It's based on the velodrome in Athens I think.

I like four and five. Four needs walls to enclose the field, or maybe a grass slope would look nice. Keep on working, and do not get discouraged if people do not reply. Bat for yourself.

Thanks for the comment gshmails. My comment on the replies was that I don't post here if the replies don't come as there is little point, but I'll still keep BATting.

    I missed of a stadium 21.gif

This is nearly finished, I just need to look at improving the textures. The glitch at the entrance is fixed btw if you notice it.

hm... there is something seriously wrong with the roof support/suspense system.

Also the scale is totally off. This size doors, windows, support masts seats just couldn't possibly be in one structure...

you previous Calatrava-like roof looks much more believable, but remember of the scale of things, nothing kills the model like screwed scale..

Well the roof support is based of that at the Reebok stadium (http://www.pictureblinds.co.uk/footballgrounds/images/Boltonfg.JPG). Is there anything in particular you dislike about it, as I like the bizarre looks of it.

As for scale, you've definitely got a point there. It's never been my strong point in BAT, and I agree with what you say there. What do I need to change to make it more believeable then? I'm thinking that the doors are too large, and if I reduce them, I may be able to keep the rest of the model the same size. What do you reckon?

This message is aimed at Simfox, but anyone can pitch in ideas.

Also sorry for the delay in this post, uni work caught up with me for a short while. Thanks for the constructive criticism though, it's what I have a thread for.

Well, the key thing there that those two major support girders between masts have to be in on the same plane, The twist as in your model looks very wrong. Generally statements like "I like the bizarre look of it" are so vague that I don't think should or even could be used as an explanation... It is your creation and you are in your right to make it as you see fit, but if you start explaining something try to do it in such a way that it would be understood by others as well.

What you can do?? Measure things… Also look carefully at your references… for instance roof supports on the Reebok Stadium...

SimFox- By the bizarre look, I wasn't trying to justify the twist as such, more the general design, which I thought was what you were disliking. As it is, i can see your point with the twist, and so will angle in the upper bar, so it's above the other around the middle, as opposed to ny on alongside.

yoder- The seats are 0.4 high, the doors 3

Well, I've made a shift in my BATting again. Those stadiums I showed a couple of weeks ago are still on my computer, but for now, I'm not working on them.

I got a bit tired of the BAT recently, annoyed with it's slowness on larger models, and the mass of work mediums sized stadiums bring.

I decided to go back for now, to what got me started BATting: small stadiums. I've got two in the pipeline, which I'll probably release together. They're single stand, basic grounds with basic facilities. I plan to use the Maxis in game pitch for these, to further the 'basic' look.

Both are based on, but not exact copies of Swiss grounds. This is due to a pretty awesome site for stadium pictures stades.ch, which I've flicked through looking for BATtable small grounds.

Without any more writing, here are the two stands I'm working on for the two grounds. Don't expect anything spectacular!

Weighing in at 820 polygons, this is based on Sportanlage Eselriet. In real life the roof is metal and rusty, but I've found wood easier to texture (I'm rubbish at texturing)

    eselriet1sw2.jpg

At a huge 5371 polygons, this is based on Stade Leon-Burrus.

    leonburrusif5.jpg

All feedback, good or bad is appreciated. Bear in mind that the textures on the second are still at an early stage.

The first of those two is pretty much finished. I'm happy with how it looks (although I may fiddle with the dugout textures), but if anyone has any suggestions to make it better, I'll see. Its lot is the same size as the normal Maxis football pitch (3x5), with the stand overhanging of the edge. I did this as it's so small, it would require a lot of Lot work to make it look nice if it was a 4x5.

    firstts6.jpg

It will be uploaded together with the second small ground when said second ground is finished, which should only be a week or two, depending on how hectic my last week at uni is. I may upload the two seperately though for those who like one but not the other, most likely not onto the STEX but maybe at the SCEX (simcities exchange)..

Just a quick update from me. I'm near on finishing this small stadium, hope to get it uploaded by the weekend.

Anyone got ideas for last minute changes/ additions? Does it look alright? I'm personally looking to scale it down a tad.

After the release now of three small stadiums, I've shifted slightly to my other 'project' of finishing some of my half-done BATs. At the moment I'm focusing on 'River Park Stadium', the development of which started on the first page of this thread (I think). It's based on but not a complete copy of the Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.

My model is quite close to being done with a few things left to be covered.

    * Niteliting: Should be quite easy, is partially done and the main pitch llights I will import of a different stadium BAT of mine.

*I need to get a better texture for the concrete on the ground around the pitch, and also extend it to cover the carpet showing in the tunnel.

*Better roof texture and fix the texture glitch on the main stand

*Add bits of detail around the main stand, such as programme stalls and bins and the like to stop it being a completely barren piece of concrete.

*Put a fence around the ground with gates by the small admission huts.

Well I'm nearing the finish line of this one now. I plan to darken the roof slightly and maybe tone down the nightlights a bit. Any more suggestions?

IMHO it looks a bit odd when everything is illuminated but there are no lamps lit anywhere. You just don't see where the light is supposed to come from.

That's a good point, thanks. I'll try to light up the bulbs on the floodlights to give the look that they're casting the light.

@GMT: If you're referring to the BATs of mine which are a small stand tagged onto the Maxis pitch, I have already got 3 on the STEX.

@everyone: Thanks for the support and comments, it's much appreciated.

I realise that it's not unrealistic, but the white on the roof of that one looks a little *too* white. The slightest tint of grey on the roof might help to accentuate the roof's support mechanisms.

Now, there wouldn't be any chance of getting those stands as standalone BAT pieces, would there? Actually, a prop pack of some of your stand models would be really handy. Just an idea, it's not hard to convert the models into props in the Maxis Plugin Manager.
