Thanks for the nice comments folks. 1.gif

I've just got a small update here, as I'm struggling with exporting the main stand (my computer has too little memory). I have altered slightly the small stand, lowering it and altering the texturing, and to the main stand I have added some more lights in the lower windows. In the next few days I'll add some furniture there and the bar area to make it appear more realistic. Apart from that, the main stand just reqires a bench before it's rendered, and the second stand just needs rendering.

    Stand 1:

    Stand 2:

Any form of feedback will be much appreciated.

Wow, superb nightlights! I like the illuminated advertisements and the warm colours! The coloured seats are also a nice touch.

The only problematic thing I see is the roof texture. It's far too bright and looks untextured actually. You could try a darker and dirtier grey, perhaps with ribs. If your computer is struggling already and won't stand even more polygons, you can always use a texture to simulate the ribs, just as cogeo did on his warehouse BATs. 2.gif

    EDIT

It just occurred to me that it would probably look supercool if the ribs lined up with the support cables... 29.gif

T Wrecks: I see your point, and at one point I had a greyish texture for the roof. As it is based around a real stadium though I went for the same colour as there (see pic). I may change it however, if I can find a darker texture that looks good.

Ah, I see. Well, the problem is always that the textures look so much brighter in SimCity than in gmax, especially on horizontal surfaces. Plus they tend to become very glossy and shiny, like plastic. Well, I'm sure you can come up with something nice. That stadium does have a very bright and smooth roof, though. o_O

Having a fairly bright roof is fine but I think I have to second T Wrecks caution. The texture on the roof that you have now I strongly suspect will be blinding in Sim City. I would suggest a light grey. In my experience light grey becomes light white in Sim City which, from the looks of the photo, is exactly what you're looking for.

Kinda reminds me of Fratton Park, my favourite football team's ground in a way, for some reason...

loving the stadiums coultharda. especially suited for the lower leagues and non-league football. could even rival brighton and hove albions new ground in the coca-cola football league championship. love to see a cricket ground and i wish you the best of luck with it. why not try something more challenging next like the big premiership grounds of anfield (liverpool) and old trafford (man utd) or some of the smaller grounds of portsmouth, fulham or west ham?? presents a challenge i'd love you to meet

best of luck mate and looking bril

The texturing and detailing of the behind of that stand was bugging me so I 've put it on hold until I finish my exams (and I can cope with the frustration), and am at the moment am focussing on redoing Ill Tonkso Park. It's already on the STEX, and was my biggest project to date, but two things about it annoyed me.

    1) Because I used the Maxis pitch, the lot was very spaced out on one side and looked rubbish.

    2)  There was no tunnel and instead a little changing roo block. Ugh!

So now I'm batting the whole thing at together, am taking out the changing room hut, and replacing one side stand with a tunnel and small bit behind it for an entrance to the dressing rooms. Also, I plan to make the area outside the stands nicer, as I can just use any textures I can find, as opposed to the Maxis base ones.

Anyway, here's where I'm at now. (Ignore the orange texture in the building, that;s just there because it beats the original purple.

Well, I've made a little progress on the reworking of Ill_Tonkso stadium, but most of my last couple of days BATting has been on a small athletics stadium which incorporates one main thing I've never really done before. Curves. It's looking alright IMO, but not perfect. Unfortunately, my inexperience with the BAT means can't fix all the things I dislike about it so far, so I'm hoping when it's done and textured, it looks adequate.

Looks good. I like the combined soccer field and track circuit. Very common in real life. Keep it up.

Nice stadiums, coultharda! It's getting better and better. The new Ill Tonkso Stadium reminds me somewhat from a stadium in 'my' town (Stadion De Wageningse Berg)

I've got another shot of the athletics stadium, this time without the track (it slows down the preview). Under the roof there are to be some seats, but the rest of the ground is standing. Apart from textures, and a fence around the front of the stands, this main stadium part is finished. Now I need to do the outside, with bars, lavs, and the like.

EDIT: Have now added some floodlights. Have some pictures.

The floodlights are amazing! There's only one thing I don't understand; why did you delete those fences ON the stands?? They look realistic.

Don't worry, they haven't been deleted. I just hid them for that preview, to speed it up.

Right, I've almost finished the main BAT. I did a full render and tried it out in game and it's looking IMO pretty good. All I need to do now I fell is add some ad boards around the pitch, shine some light onto the floodlights (to make them appear to be shining), render the whole thing once more (with seats this time) and  then lot it well.

The stadium also now has a name, the Dixon-Kennedy stadium, named after a famous author I like 2.gif (people in chat will definitely know what I'm talking about).

I did actually start the Fratton End once, but when you consider that my computer can't hack rendering a moderately sized covered stand (River Park Stadium), I think it would struggle with any Fraton Park stand, and positively melt with the Milton End. 15.gif

Well, I've been on holiday, come back and now relased Ill Tonkso Park V2 onto the STEX. The Dixon Kennedy Stadium is also nay on done, but it needs some final touches and for me to find the time to render it before I upload it.

In the meantime I'm working on another athletics stadium. It's probably smaller then the Dixon Kennedy one, but it's not terraced, and I'm also trying to design it so it's dug into the ground (see the picture). Hopefully I'll be able to get that effect in game, if not I'll just raise it and give it walls. It's obviously far from finished, but I have the basic shape, and short of texturing and detailing, the main thing I have yet to add is a building at the top of the stand on one side, where the changing rooms etc. would be.

Since it's the holidays, and I have a lot of time to kill, I often switch projects, and the other day started on a more modern stadium, based on the design of a lot of new football grounds in England. It's simply for association football, no athletics, and the part which will take up my time will be mainly fashioning the outside. So far I've just got the framework: bare teraces, roof and it's supports, vague main entrance, but it's taking shape.

Any comments, be they good or bad are appreciated.

I like the look of the more modern one. It needs quite a bit of work yet, but it looks like it'll be good once it's finished.

I love your small stadium BATs on the STEX. They fill a very big need for stadiums/fields that you'd see in universities or smaller municipalities/communities. The Maxis minor league stadium only looks good if it isn't every small city's feature staduim.

    Keep up the good work!
