that's very cool, Dirk - the mods and admins need a very large tip of the cap for coming up with the idea.
as a fellow astronomical enthusiast, you should also know this: even once the star Simtropolis dies, from death comes life. the dust from that star will be used by our universe to create more stars, more worlds, and that which exists on those worlds...who knows, perhaps even more life.
btw, excellent choice on the ELP song...along with John Lennon's So This Is Christmas, my top pick for all-time Christmas songs.

Wonderful idea!!! Now Simtropolis has its own star. I wonder if there is any way, we can find the star. Is there some website where you can see photos of stars by entering in their coordinates? I think along with the star, you get photos and charts of the star's location. Can you post a photo of it here Dirk? This is a great gift. Its worth more then money.
I wonder if an alien civilization lives on a planet, who's Sun is that star. It makes me wonder if those aliens have given Earth's Sun its own name. Merry Christmas and Happy 2005 to everyone at Simtropolis!!!
