Odd message in game

I don't use cheats, so I'm confused what this is. I do tend to build a small, profitable city first and run it for a while to build funds for expansion, which I did here. I got this in year 50 with about 600K in the treasury.

So, uh. Why is it accusing me of cheating? Is this going to affect my game? And what did I install that had this thing riding along with it?

...it probably was from something you downloaded. One day while I was playing a headline came up saying something along the lines of broccli improves sex life or something like that... I figured it was from something I downloaded...I just laughed and kept on playing!

yes it is indeed with something you downoaded from here, I have it too.

I use cheats (Cousin Vinnie ordinance) it activates when you get a lot of money over a short period of time.

It came with a BSC lot I believe, and as rou probably know you now have a statue you can place in honour of the typing monkeys.

It does not affect your gameplay in anyway, unless you build the statue, in which case I believe it just acts like a park, but I'm not sure, perhaps the little minx that built it can drop by and enlighten you some more.

well I say it's one of the BSC lots or mod...not sure which one...never seen the message before myself, I use the mod that blocks all but the red alert messages...I'd guess it be Goober or Barbyw... but it seems more like a funny joke...typing monkeys....hehehehe

im pretty sure its a simgoober production...i myself dont use cheats and occasionally get this when i make alot of money early on(relative to whatever parameters this has set)...ive placed the monkey in many of my cities, mostly to fill in empty spaces, and i have noticed no ill effects.

 

as to which lot exactly this is included in i have no idea...maybe a post on the BSC or SimGoober thread might get you an answer

It is BSC....if you look in your rewards menu you should see a statue of a ape scraching his head in front of a computer...dedicated to those that dont read the readme's

It is one of two statues that I think simgoober sneaked in with the Temple of the STEX Goddess but  could be wrong on that. It will do no harm and is just a park with a sense of humour The statues were made by ripptide.

The messages are also from simgoober and there are a number of additions to the news tickers that again will not harm your game but just add a few laughs here and there. If you use the mod that blocks the news tickers then obviously you won't see them.

Sorry, folks, I was wrong in where the file came from. It is actually the mystery reward in here BSC Canal Parks  The others in this pack are for the canal system.

Whoa. I probrably would never want to download BSC Canal Parks again. Or, possibly instead and more moderately, I'd appreciate if the download was updated to exclude that easter egg, then, I could download that with confidence.

Constantina: why would you not download the BSC Canals Reward Parks? Do you not have any sense of humour? The park will not damage you or the game and you can safely ignore the message as if it were not there. It is a joke as the News Ticker messages are. No damage, no harm just a bit of harmless fun.

well 1 typing monkey gone I guess, but seriously Const...not downloading any BSC lot would in my opion limit your game and any your fun on ST....their are called easter eggs cuz their fun to find and tell other about

 

many on the maxis lots have hidden easter eggs that were never told to us...off hand theres the snow all over your city if you played the game on christmas I believe...and i heard of something about ghosts in the cemetary on halloween night...though I haven't seen either personelly

 

the advance research centre flying balls of lighting freaked me out the first time...and when the Shuttle craft took off the first time i nearly had a heart attack

 

thier little surprises for you to find and tell others about...after the whole point of the comunity and playing the game is FUN

 

i fell for the waste disposal easter egg...hook line and sinker even thought it was a false virus report... oh the shame

Yes, that Monkey is triggered by high money with low population.  Sort of supposed to be triggered in the scenario where the average user has a money cheat.  Just a normal park other than that.  It's been out for months, so I am surprised it took this long to pop up... lol..

 

Actually, I have put a few fun things in numerous lots, the news messages mostly.  Hardly anyone seems to notice though, so maybe I should get more obnoxious with them... muh ha ha!

Let me first say that I think the monkey statue is quite funny, BarbyW, but I don't think Constantina is being unreasonable in her request. To you it may be harmless fun, to her it is something she never wanted in her plugins.

Funny or not, I too am not really OK with modders sneaking things into my game. Like I remember downloading a plugin only to discover snow showing up on my mountains in-game. If I wanted a snow mod, I would have downloaded and installed one. I don't really appreciate a BATer deciding for me that I should have snow in my game.

I realize that if you BAT it, you have every right to include what you want in the BAT. If we don't like it, we don't have to download it. But if we don't even know what is included in the download, how can we decide to download it or not?

I actually think this is something that deserves more discussion.

As for me, I'm all for easter eggs. If it gives more satisfaction to the BATers and modders, great! Not to mention the laughs I get when I see a newsticker item I haven't seen before.

BSC and company have done a great job of listing and managing dependencies (thx for the mega prop packs!), so I don't think anyone should be worried about harmless easter eggs.

If you really can't handle this little "extra", then delete it.  It's in the canal statues folder, with a name like "mystery park" or something like that.  I got a chuckle out of it when I first saw it, and then removed it, because I wouldn't use it.
