Loading region using shift-alt-ctrl-R does not work

Hey everyone,
Been back playing Simcity4 after a long hiatus and now on a mac. I cannot seem to make the Shift-alt-ctrl-R combination work in order to make my downloaded region load. When I use the keys the small blue window appears but it does not give me the option to search my documents. The upper white box does not let my type in it. Nor can I navigate to it through the folders since the only folder options it gives me to start from are some system folders (see attached image). In short: I cannot find my region folder!
Somebody has a solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

I suspect this is related to the fact that the file selecting dialog was made to work with Windows, so it cannot find the expected directories on a Mac and simply doesn't show any.

On the other hand, the open directory seems to be the root directory of your computer, so you might be able to find your files from there, but it might be slow.

If MacOS does follow the UNIX directory scheme, you should start by opening the home folder, and then checking inside for a folder with your username, which should contain your files (as opposed to system files).

In your shown window you should scroll down down just one line to find a folder named  "users" which is aquivalent to your mac users folder. From there on you will get access to your documents/ SimCity 4 folder or every other path you like.

The dialogue looks very strange for a mac user but in the end it works.

If you accidentelly open the "usr" folder (last on show in your screenshot) you have to cancel and start the process again, this just leads you to some unix system folders.

Thank you both! I already tried your suggestions but the 'user' folder is just not present. The 'home' folder, visible in my screenshot, also seems to be empty (according to this dialogue). I seems its not really possible for me/mac users to install new maps since the other option, working with the map installer, is also not available to us :/

Oh! I wish I'd've replied when this topic was still current. *

There is a solution and it's prolly buried here on ST as I recall reading it.

Basically what y'all have to do is find the entire full path and file name for your grayscale image and paste that in and then it'll work. Remember to not shift focus away while it is rendering or it'll bork your terrain. (You can tell it's working cause the tile image will change now and then and there are two spoofy news items per tile while it's going on.)

So, I don't recall the exact path, but it'll be something like:

       /container/cori/can/use/games/SimCity 4/regions/new/my grayscale.bmp (or such)

Please do post back with the real solution once you find it so other Mac peeps can learn too.

Was it this one here? There's a couple recommendations in that topic. Not on a Mac, however, so can't check them out.

That's certainly a good one. *:ohyes:

So yeah, Mac peeps read that thread. It'll provide info from other Mac users who know more about this than me.

This was my write up on solving this problem in 2020.  I have switched to running the Windows version under Wine after upgrading my MacBook to an Apple Silicon one, but I assume it still works the same.

Re-reading the thread now, I do recall it. Thanks for adding the linky so any other Mac peeps can jump over there as well for help. *:)

I'll also add the linky directly to your post since the one which resolves to the preview can either take you to it or to the first post in the topic depending on what is clicked.
