I downloaded a map for SC4. For some weird reason certain cities along the edge of the regional map are asking for "edge reconciliation", even though the other neighboring cities are built up and not asking for edge reconciliation. Is there a mod that would allow for me to make the necessary regional city connections without the need for edge reconciliation? I would like for my road networks to function without the need for edge reconciliation.

This is a new map, right?

There is indeed a bug / glitch in the game in which a city tile or a map which has never been opened before will behave that way. You will get it in every city tile that is opened for the first time, even if other tiles around it have been already aligned.

You can just ignore this prompt and continue playing. Then when you're done, just save the city and you will never be bothered about it again.

If you are prompted to fix your city's edges (aka "edge reconciliation"), and you do NOT, will that negatively affect any of the following:

1.) Neighbor connections; rail, highway, boat crossings, etc. (including those in the NAM network)

    2.) Neighborhood deals

    3.) etc.

    Thanks.

It is just the tiles along the edge. I have started the city and saved it. I went back and it is still asking for edge reconciliation. If I press yes, the side bordering nothing turns into land.

No! Edge reconciliation is basically for the looks of your region. In other words, cosmetic. The only reason to do it is so that when you make a tile connection, your road/rail doesn't end up in a creek or the side of a mountain in the next tile. I basically open all tiles on a new map and save. Then you wont get the ER message.

Yes, this is unfortunately what happens.

In any new map that you download or make yourself, you simply have to open each and every tile of the region, ignore the reconciliation prompt and save the tile. Don't worry, everything will be smooth and continuous on the edges.

Save and exit each tile. Repeat until all are "validated".

Heh, is there anything else left to say except...

We've all overlooked something here. I was chatting with Cori and she so happened to come across this topic while viewing ST as a guest.

There's this setting inside the game options:

    SC4_Auto Edge Reconciliation Option.png

Having the Auto Edge Reconciliation unchecked will prevent the annoying message about reconciliation. *;)

Then there's no need to go into every single tile and save.

This is one of the things which has always amazed me about Cori. She remembers these little details which didn't even occur to me when I read this topic! *

Good catch. I often get all settings right and never look back at them.

However, it has to be mentioned that on a new map you still need to enter each and every city tile to render the entire region into "true colors" rather than a "weather map" palette.

So my initial point was not to actually go over all tiles with no purpose in mind but rather make them game-ready in terms of graphics. *;)

Indeed, that's very true for maps created from .SC4M via Mapper or Terraformer.

Otherwise one benefit for 8-bit grayscale rendering during the Ctrl+Shift+Alt+R import, any graphical mods (terrain, water, beach, rock, etc) will show properly in the region view if they were in plugins. It sure would be useful if Mapper or Terraformer could do this too. I believe it's a limitation due to the terrain data being saved, but not previewed in game to snap the preview pics for every tile. So then the simulated colours are the best it can do.

    These is this alternative style:

Which replaces the colours with a different scheme, but it's only to give a different theme than the default Mapper and Terraformer style.

I've had all those ticked off for years, except, unexplicably, edge scrolling, as I never could figure out what it did. Forgot all about that panel. You can consolidate un-built tiles in Terraformer, as long as you protect things you don't want touched.
