[Solved] Updated to Windows 10... crash after 10 seconds - No Audio Bug

Hi everyone, 

After playing on my computer since about 2009, I finally upgraded to a proper gaming computer with Windows 10. I downloaded from GOG without the GOG launcher and downloaded the patches. However, even with a clean plugins folder my game crashes after about 10 seconds on the region view--with the vanilla and region transferred from my other computer.

 

Here is everything in my SC4 folders and the exception report. Am I missing anything?

Hiya Josh, I got the memo vaguely, Not sure if that's the case, Have you tried to swith off your audio with your GOG launcher or shortcut, I just recall that someone had the same error since he didn't have any speakers on that the game could output audio onto. you could add

-audio:off into your start-up parameters. here below is the reference link:

Glad to hear it worked, and excellent suggestion there @Raymond7cn to mention that parameter.

Just to add...

If ever getting speakers, it'll be worth adding the equivalent -audio:on switch to one's startup line instead of the -audio:off option. This way when loading the game, it'll toggle over the preference for sound to be enabled and turned on again. This is stored in the game settings and can then be safely removed afterwards. It just needs setting back this way, or otherwise audio will continue to be disabled for what the game outputs as sound.

Until a time when getting speakers (if choosing to), it'll probably be worth keeping the "off" command in there to know it is set that way.

Just to add, this wouldn't be the first time I've heard of SC4 CTDing on startup, when no devices were plugged into the audio jacks. Modern soundcards auto-detect what's plugged in and vary inputs/outputs accordingly, which can result in problems for SC4 initiating audio. If this is the case here, you'll find it works once something is actually plugged into the Headphone/Speaker Jack.
