Hello. It is very diificult for me to find any reply. I download several mods (Peterskirche, Modepaleis) and install them. They appear as packages when I play. I could not find the "read me" about these files and I don't know if they need dependencies. Can you help me ? Thank you

Peterskirche doesn't seem to include a ReadMe, which is unusual. There aren't any necessary prop or texture dependencies, although PIMX is showing a missing sound file. No idea what that would be, but it isn't going to interfere with the church's landmark function. An excess sc4desc file is included in the zip.

Modepaleis also doesn't have a ReadMe. This does include both a Maxis Night and Dark Night model, so you'll need to choose between them. If you aren't using SimFox's Dark Night Mod, then you should choose Maxis Night (MN). This file is in a RAR, which I believe is against the STEX rules. Uploads should be in a ZIP format for compression. This file includes 2 lots and an excess desc. Desc files are automatically embedded into all plopable lots. There is an eyecandy landmark (no jobs) as well as a growable stage 6 CO$$$ with 217 jobs. Along with missing sound files, PIMX is showing 2 missing props. So it would seem there are missing dependencies. @Aarsgevogelte has been active recently, so perhaps he can fill us in on those.

I have Peterskirche  and it works fine. Must be the other one.

What are you talking about? Nobody said anything about either of them not working.

I'm thinking it's in relation to the boxes. If you're seeing boxes, then it's "not working right"..   and the one he has isn't showing the box for that particular one.   at least that's how I interpreted the post.

..and you might already have the missing deps for that file which is why you don't show the brown box. It might just be a lucky situation for you. Wouldn't automatically assume anything.

No brown boxes is what I mean. I've ran it through Files2Dat so I don't know what was in it originally.

Just downed it again and it looks like the standard 3 files are in it, desc, model and lot

I just checked both lots in game, with an empty Plugins folder. There are no brown boxes.

Both building models are included in the downloads. Any missing props for Modepelels isn't creating brown boxes. I would suggest checking to make sure you have installed the included models.

It worries me when a desc file is included in a download for a plopable building. Because the desc that is actually being used for the lot is embedded into the sc4lot file. So the one that's in the zip is totally useless, unnecessary, and a waste of space.

Something I thought prior but didn't post but now feel I should have.

Because I don't like to make assumptions, are you un-rar'ing the files? esentially uncompressing them before putting them into the plugins folder? Not just placing the rar file in the plugins and expecting it to work that way?

I'm coming in half way here so maybe this has been answered, it's more for my own curiousity really...

Oh, I see what you mean. Like I might have the deps from something else. Could be, but debussyman didn't have any listed and I have 3 or 4 other lots by him that have no deps listed either. And they all are fine. I think you may be right about the rar.

@Bastenaire

In addition to the posts above...

I've looked into this with @CorinaMarie and we've made an edit to the Modepaleis, Antwerpen file in attempt to clarify with a short description and instructions.

As follows:

Quote

19th century W2W corner building from Antwerp, Belgium.

File contains both a Landmark version and a Growable Stage 6 CO$$$ with 217 jobs.

To install:

  1. Extract contents from the .rar file (7-Zip can do that).
  2. Copy extracted files to Plugins
  3. Delete either the MN or DN folder depending on if you use Maxis Night or Dark Night.

*:ducky:

CB Edit: Added extra info to description.

(Previously it only had the rubber duck there which while cute and all, didn't really give much away.)

Also just to say about this...

It is actually permissible for RAR archives to be used for STEX files (as explained in this hidden away post). Good point though about ZIP files being preferable, and that's absolutely true since they can be natively opened by most (if not all) operating systems. It's more convenient for people that way. *
