Industrial zoning tool showing up after demolishing

Has anyone else experienced a glitch where the game suddenly defaults to the industrial zoning tool after demolishing something?  It's so odd - I will lay down a road network, or plop a lot...for instance, we'll say a police department...and then if I change my mind and demolish it, the industrial zoning tool suddenly becomes active, and if I'm not watching what I'm doing then I will accidentally rezone an area as an industrial zone.  Then I have to dezone it, redo what I wanted to originally do, etc.  Is this perhaps a glitch with a lot in my plugins, or some sort of conflict with the NAM...?  It's not maddening, so I can deal with it if necessary.  But it IS annoying.  Just wondering if this has come up before with anyone.  Thanks.

I suggest first discarding the hypothesis of being a plugin, moving all content to a safe place and running the game with the plugin folder empty.  If even without plugins the mysterious problem persists, I suggest changing the keyboard as a test. *:golly:

It's a new keyboard...the keys aren't sticking.  (Respectfully stating.  I appreciate the input.)  I'm not utilizing the keyboard when it happens - just my mouse, which is also new.  And I don't have any other problems with glitches in the game.  I wish I could better explain what's happening.  :lost:  I'll try a hypothetical situation:  Let's say I've put down a commercial zone that has a road in an odd location within the zone.  I change my mind about zoning it commercial, and instead I wish to convert it to a residential zone.  Since I need to demolish the road in order to reposition it, I select the bulldozer tool.  After I demolish the road, the industrial zoning tool becomes active without me doing anything else.  I don't want to use the industrial tool.  I want to use the residential tool.  Regardless, the cursor should stay the bulldozer until I select another menu option, correct?  But that isn't what happens.  Instead, the cursor activates the industrial zoning tool.  And it's always the industrial tool...never anything else.  It's weird, but I don't freak out about it.  It just annoys me...and makes me curious about why it happens.  I can live with the situation as it happens, but I'm just curious if it's a glitch within the game, or could it possibly be a conflict between lots, etc...?

I've never heard of this happening. It still sounds like a keyboard issue. You can get defective items brand new, you know. I know if you hold down the zoning, it will zone all over the place, mostly where you didn't intend to zone.

Well I certainly won't discredit what you're saying.  I'm usually the odd man out, so leave it to me to have a unique glitch.  *  My foggy brain doesn't comprehend how it could be my keyboard since it doesn't happen with any other menu option.  Nevertheless, I can deal with it. *:thumb:

Just a really long shot here based on what you are describing happening to a new mouse/keyboard. It might be worth investigating the mouse property settings.

This is done outside the game; you would look in the control panel - > devices -> mouse properties (or equivalent on your set-up) and then look to slow down the double-click settings: somewhere near the middle works best for SC4; make sure 'click lock' isn't checked and that your pointer speed is reasonably neutral and that 'pointer precision' is checked.

    Quick test #1:

This will rule out the possibility of any of your Plugins causing the problem. It's pretty quick to move a folder and test in-game, if the behaviour still occurs, you can safely restore the folder by moving it back.

    #2:

Open the game and before using your mouse, such that the problem would usually trigger, unplug your keyboard or if you're using wireless equipment, either switch off the keyboard or remove the batteries.

It's not impossible for a mouse to input a keyboard command, but that's really a long shot. But if it still happens with the keyboard unconnected to the computer, you can rule out any sort of keyboard issue. Frankly, since Z, X and C are the shortcuts for I-A, I-Med and I-High respectively, for a keystroke to be triggering the problem, it would be one of those. Another quick test, if after the problem occurs, you Quit SC4 without touching the keyboard, then open Notepad or basically any Application that accepts text input. If a key was sticking, it should at the very least intermittently "type" something.
