Hi all,

I am new to modding for SC4 and am trying to learn the basics, but I am unable to get Lot Editor to work properly on my computer. Can you help?

I am on a Windows 10 OS using the Steam version of SC4. I installed the Lot Editor installer from Simtropolis to the following location:

Quote

This PC > OS(C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > SimCity 4 Deluxe > Apps

But when I launch LotEditor.exe I received the screen depicted in the uploaded image, at which point the app froze and showed as "Not Responding" in my Task Manager.

Why is the program not running for me? Is there anything I need to do differently to get it to work?

How much content is in your Plugins folder? The loading time increases the more content you have there (unfortunately, without any visible clue of how much time there's left). With me, it already takes 10 min upwards to load the Lot Editor because my Plugins folder contains almost 7 GB. Try waiting a bit and see if the issue "solves itself".

Edit: You might also want to start the LE while your Plugins folder is completely empty (by renaming it to something different, it won't be recognized by the LE anymore). Then the LE should start almost instantly. If it doesn't, then there's really something wrong, but, admittedly, I would be the wrong person to ask about this.

Haha, I just looked back at my open Lot Editor program after posting this and saw that it was working. I guess it just takes some time to load! I do have a lot of stuff in my plugins folder, so it makes sense.

I'll leave this up in case anyone else is impatient like me and has this problem in the future. Thanks for responding @11241036!

@11241036 Regarding your edit, removing everything out of the plugins folder is a really great idea. I'm sure that will help me out in the future!

Thanks for leaving this up. I was actually coming here to ask this very question.

The program takes roughly the same amount of time to load as the main game does, because the amount of Plugins you have determines how much data it needs to load. If your Plugins is really large, it's possible the App can't handle that, best practice is to lot with only those files needed.

You can try adding -d:soft to the startup line of the shortcut, as on modern computers you may have compatibility issues running it.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.
