Linux is nearly 30 years old so I wouldn't call it new and its also open source so not a lot of money changes hands.

I'm pretty sure that Silur was reacting to the Windoze KB update and Win-10 problems (hence the reference to Win-XP). Posting within 12 minutes of you, he probably didn't even see your Linux work had slipped in there until he refreshed the thread.

    More problems I'm afraid.

    Java..

    I cannot get to install, I tried it on the XP drive that I created and got the message that it needs a newer version of Windoze to run, so I thought that I would  create a new drive with 64 bit Windoze 10 installed, and I got the same [censored] message when I tried running the exe file. Can anybody help me with this one. :???:

    Modern versions of Java will not work with XP. But, you should be able to find an older version of Java that does. It should be the Windows Offline (not 64-bit) link here. Note you will see a warning message re: Windows XP, but you should be able to bypass it and complete the install. If not, come back to us, I've still got an old XP laptop I can run some tests upon.

    What do you need it for?, I'm guessing the NAM installation? Bear in mind Java is optional for this, although it does help to optimise the NAM Controller file.

    Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

    New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

    I got a copy of that version from the Oracle Java Archive, and it has installed on my virtual drive okay, so the next step is reinstalling the NAM.

    @rsc204 I need to changing the driving side and need Java for the custom installation of the NAM

    Java isn't required for a custom NAM install, that's all handled by the installer application as is setting the driving side. Note that the driving side set in the NAM needs to match your game's setup, it's not going to alter the game. To do that you need to set the language of SC4, which dictates the driving side. For example US English (default) will be RHD, whereas UK English will be LHD. For more info on this, see here:

    Java is called to run the controller compiller and is also used if you want to run the TSCT, an optional program for creating a custom traffic simulator

    Java... I cannot get to install...

    What version?

    For us to deduce the culprit here, we need clues. T_T

    Try pushing Adobe for an archived version of Java SE (you may need to register as a developer to get there).

    And whenever describing buggy behavior, please include as must context as you can so we don't have to guess.

    @jeffryfisher

    I feel like it might be worth amending your post above to slightly tone it down. To me that seems a little harsh in the wording there.

    Update: Thanks, that's much better. *:)

    @Miss Cuddly

    Just to clarify how there's no prerequisites here at Simtropolis when asking for help. While it can be useful when such extra info is provided by posters seeking assistance, understandably technical issues can be wide-ranging and complex. I believe replies to all questions should be made with patience. To consider how people like yourself are frustrated about things not working, and then others can politely probe for additional details when that might lead to a solution.

    A month further, but anyway. I have windows 10.

    I have used files2dat and now I have installed sc4datpacker. I needed Java for this program to run.

    The only 'issue' that I had was my browser. Normally I use google chrome, but that didn't work. Edge also, didn't work. I had to download it with internet explorer and everything was fine.
