One point about using the multiple plugin folder method is that it is easy to hit the wrong key (like delete) instead of the rename key. For this reason its a good idea to do back-ups of your plugins folders. I do this at the first of each month. Also I make back-ups of the Master plugin folder and the main plugin every day game playing folder. I put these extra copies up in the archive file. I also use special colored icons on these two plugins folders to spot them easyer as I am jumping around between Lot Editor,sc4 Tool, and ILives tool. Remember, its always easy to through away an out dated plugins back-up folder than try and recreate a new one.

I have just one prop file in Lot Editor at a time. Its easier to spot what you need and doing a change out is fast and easy.

Lot Editor won't start. What to do?

Hey all,

After making my own building in BAT, the Lot Editor won't start. I tried it many times, searched for answers, asked my brother (who knows much about computers), but nothing helped. Lot Editor won't start after clicking on the icon on my desktop. This is what I see (below). After 1 minute, a second pop-up shows, with Lot Editor, but nothing happens, only 2 white pop-ups that won't react.

What to do?

Thanks for helping,

Mark

You said you were using Lot Editor, not the game. Standard practice when lot editing is to move out all the plugins you don't need (which can be gigabytes for some users), and keep only the ones you really need for your lot, eg two or three prop packs. Do your lot making then test with the restricted plugins. Then when you want to play normally put back all the plugins into your plugins folder. By doing this you both speed up the Lot Editor program (especially its load time, like I said, my LE takes 20 minutes to start if I use it with a full plugins folder) and you also don't get unintended dependencies for the lots you create (this is a significant problem to inexperienced lot makers).

Also standard practice when trouble shooting is to remove all custom content and see if it works without. If it does then there is something in the custom content that is causing it to not work. That way you can isolate the problem more efficiently.

So I suggest you remove all custom content from both your plugin folders and see if the Lot Editor loads up normally without it.

You aren't trying to run both the Lot Editor and the game at the same time are you? That doesn't work because both can't open the same data files at the same time (but usually you get an error message with that).

No replace button

Hey all,

Finally, Lot Editor works, but something doesn't work in Lot Editor what I need to do, according to the tutorial:

I don't see the "Replace item" and "Replace family" buttons. I tried 5 buildings, but no buttons.

Who can help me? Thanks! 4.gif

Greetings Mark

Sorry, I don't get what you mean with "don't have the item selected", this is what I see (for an example):

Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2008

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2008 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. To help with this, the title of original thread has been edited into the original first post of each thread.

Remember that you can use Ctrl+F to search through your current page.
