Japanese/Asian BATS not working/growing

So I downloaded a handful of Japanese and some Generic Asian styled stuff from here and from other places, but nothing seems to be growing.

I tried a bunch of stuff from a guy named Moonlight but only their 1x2 size houses and 3x3 housing lots grow and only the gas station.

I've tried removing every other mod in plug in folder other then the asian lots and the maxis lot blocker, but nothing seems to work. If I remove the block maxis lots mod, then all of the maxis stuff builds and none of the asian stuff. I even removed Network Addon Mod and CAM to see if they where conflicting but that didnt help either.

I've made sure they had power, water, and provided waste management. I've also tried all kinds of zone sizes from 1x1 to 4x4 and nothing grows. I've basically done everything one would need to make sure that a town grows.

I dunno what else to add here to help as this is the first time I've run into an issue of having lots not grow in game. The only other thing I can think of is that either my setup can't handle Japanese/Asian mods with Asian characters in the names of stuff, or that it doesnt like my North American version of SimCity 4.

If there are Asian characters in things like exemplar names, this could very well be the problem.  In fact I've even had the game crash when such characters are present.  If you can give me some links to a couple of the lots in question, I can take a quick look.  There's a possibility that malformed / incorrect exemplars are in play here.

What's your current population count?  Another possibility is Stage Growth issues.

I wouldn't know for sure which lots are bad as none of them seem to load at all if I remove the Housing/Condomiums made by Moonlight as well as their Gas Station lot.

I should have some stage 1 stuff to start a town with but nothing seems to appear.

Theres always the possibility that I still dont have enough to cover the beginnings of a town yet.

I would say as in my opinion, that many Japanese / Asian BATs are beautiful models, but sometimes poorly modded. Perhaps these are made before handy tools such as PIMX were available. I have found out that many BATs do not have a grow lot version or the building model is an “invisible model”, so the stats can distorted. For example an midrise office building can be a prop and the actual building is 1m x 1m x 1m box, from which the stats are based on.

I have downloaded a large number of BATs from Japanese sites, but I have had to adjust stats and sometimes to do little modding myself to get those grow in the game as I feel is appropriate.

I think that Japanese play style is more to plop beautiful cities rather than to grow functional cities. Building as a prop can be a neat trick when you need an overhanging model or in a special situation, but I don not understand its use when the building is rectangular and fits in the lot.

One issue from a tiny building box is that the building value is low and thus those do not generate tax income. Also, if the prop building is not done properly, then the ingame building can float on the air when there is even a slight slope.

I have had no issues with Japanese characters even though my computer is in a Latin system.

I was kind of thinking I might have to use something to edit the files, though after doing some testing yesterday, I found that if I push real hard with the utilties and services I can get most of the stuff from moonlight to grow (the other stuff is probably too high of a stage cap to appear early game)

I would like to edit some of this stuff so that I can increase the occupant numbers of buildings. While its more realistic that a single house might only have 3-4 people, the default maxis houses and houses made by others tend to have 8-20 people.

I think for now i'm just going to have to try and download more and more mods to get things working.

Is it possible to make PLOP only stuff growable if it has standard dimensions, I dont care if theres no "construction" props or models for a lot if thats needed as half the time I'm playing on 3x speed which means I rarely see the construction phase of buildings.

Plus I'd prefer to have everything growable rather then all plop based because I have issues with stuff getting dipiliated or abandoned because I forgot to give it something, or waves of black outs hit my city, or perhaps the area just isn't right for a certain building (placing a skyscrapper early game in a low income neighbour hood seems like a bad idea)

To me, it sounds like a work for the PIM-X, but that implies to redo the lots. Another alternative is to use the Reader to modify the existing lots, but that's a bit more difficult, because the PIM-X has automated most of the arithmetic required.

Keep in mind that both applications need some dll libraries to work with your computer, so read the installation instructions carefully. Once working, they can look a little daunting, but here in the forums there are several guides to its usage, and we are also eager to help on what we know to do.

Many asian residential were done for the european tileset. So maybe check buildings from all tilesets can grow in your game.

Otherwise - I think, we had to pick one single building and have a closer look on this, why it doesn't grow for you.  Non-ascii letters (?) can cause game crash (also the german ones) when clicking on them but they shouldn't matter on growth imho.

Even with the maxis blocker on I make sure to have all the tile sets active just in case. I do this for any other countries that doesnt fit in with the Maxis stuff.

I have downloaded tons of content from Asian sites and have  found that some landmark, park and utility lots do not show up in game but can be modified with lot editor and PIM (and PIm-X) but still do not appear in the menus in game  I'm not advanced enough in modding to determine where the problem  is  often I will just create new desc and lot files but some lots are very detailed and I would like to have the original creator's layout

This can have a lot of reasons: A broken icon, wrong entry in the OccupantGroups property, maybe they are conditional buildings, or they have a MML (Menu Management Lot; this removes the icons from the game menu until you place the MML somewhere in a city, this was a way in earlier times to save space in the in-game menus). Please check if there is a MML, and if you find a file with this letter combination, please try temporarily removing it and see if the lots appear. If not, please send me the files via PM and I'll have a look.

Edit: Also, as already mentioned by Fantozzi, using Asian characters in the properties in Reader may prevent them from working. One should only use letters, numbers, and a few signs such as the underscore _ , in files and only use special characters in LTEXT files.

You could just copy the whole "LotConfigPropertyLotObject" & "LotConfigPropertyLotObjectData" from the original lot into your new lot file.

Just be sure to use the building (lotconfig property that starts with 0x00000000) from your new Desc file.
