Is such a thing possible? Or is it something that the traffic Sim can't handle, or no one has tried before?

It is not possible to do mixed zones as zone types are hard-coded in the .exe. Even if you mod a building to supply both jobs and residences, it would not be growable.

Looking at the examplar files from, say a residential building, it is possible to include mixed types.  See a snap shot from using iLive Reader on a residential lot.  However, there is no 'Mixed' zone, so I do not know how the game mechanics would handle such a lot.

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.  Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

There is a game property called "Allow Joint Occupancy" (0x27812836), which accepts a boolean (true/false) value.  Per the description provided in the Reader, "if true, different types can occupy the building together".  However, the property isn't referenced in any of the game's original files, and I'm not aware of any custom content that has successfully utilized it.  RippleJet, who developed the CAM and is one of the luminaries of RCI modding, said in 2009 over at SC4D that he and BarbyW had both tried unsuccessfully to get the property to function.  His conclusion was that Maxis didn't finish implementing it.

But it won't show up as a legit job and residence that sims interact with.

Probably for a .dll or locked in .exe?

One and the same thing. If the code to do something is inside the .exe, the only way to modify it is with the use of a .dll.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I'm not looking to mix res/commercial, but I would like to make my commercial  and industrial ploppable landmarks satisfy  $,$$ and $$$ and Co/Cs.  Do I need the "allow joint occupancy" thing to do that?

Also,  I am running into the 1.2M residential cap.  Is there any mod to take that off, or some ploppable landmark that, for all intents and purposes, does that?

CS and CO are different, and mixing them would be the same as mixing residential and commercial.

However, lots do provide different wealth jobs. The game's interface is misleading. For example, a CS$$$ building doesn't provide CS$$$ jobs only, it provides a mix of CS$$$, CS$$, and CS$ jobs. A CO$$$ building also provides CO$$ jobs. You can see in Prophet42's screenshot above, for "Capacity Satisfied" there are different values for R$ and R$$.

For your second question, I don't play very big cities so I'm not familiar with those extreme situations, but maybe someone else can help you.
