Project "Random Airport"

Progress has been made on the airport, although there is still some work to be done.

Its a small airport squized in very close to the old town. Its connected with bus/taxi and a tramline.

Not much suitable terrain on this map, so we had to blast a mountain or two! >:)

Quick facts:

12 medium sized stands

2 large stands

6 small stands

One terminal, hangar area.

Category C airport, and can accommodate aircraft types up to Boeing 767.

Runway 17 (ILS Cat I), Runway 35 (VOR/LOC)

 

UPS operates the 767.

 

Close proximity to the city! (best street light placement haha....)

 

Had to even out the terrain!

Anyway, still some detailing to do. (Night lightning for example)

This update includes a few overview shots aswell as some shots of a cargo harbor (fully functional) I added.

The harbor, wich is build on reclaimed land. The part of the map in which i build the city doesnt contain to much level ground im afraid.

The harbor is functinal thanks to Strictoaster's cargo dock.

 

We had to tunnel our way to get a highway connection:

One thing i really have to wotk on, and which i basicly have given zero attention is the night lightning of the city. Still looks decent though!

Last post for this city/map.

Continued on the financial/a more modern part of town which includes a few high rise buildings, located along the river.

New project up and running!

By far the biggest airport I've ever created. Still aloooooong way to go but so far so good!

Basicly the airport is made up of 3 main terminals and quite a number of remote stands for the smaller aircraft.

 

So far I've only started detailing Terminal 1 and 2, aswell as the remote stands.

In the pic below you see Terminal 1 ( in the background and top of the image) and part of Terminal 2. Some of the remote stands can also be seen here:

 

Terminal 1 is mostly used for charter flights:

 

Terminal 2 (to the left in the shot) is used by mixed airline aswell as the main airline of the airport (SAS):

So far this looks really good. I wish CO made an airport DLC with modular airports to make these kind of builds easier and more meaningful from a gameplay perspective.

Yeah I've seen quite alot of them. Mine might be a little to big though, but yeah I've seen alot of them:)

Yeah i would aswell! This airport, even though I've put down the taxiways/runways correct doesnt want to function, which kinda sucks. Guess its just to complex or something

Heya!

Terminal 2 is now almost complete. Its composed of both gates and remote stands as seen below:

 

The crossings between Terminal 2 and 3 (not yet complete) is quite an hotspot. Might redo this part with sunken roads going between the terminals, as it probably would have been in real life:

 

Part of Terminal 3 and in the background Terminal 2. On the right side you see a strip of varous hotels serving the airport. More on this later:

 

Terminal 3 is where the main airline, SAS, will house most of it long haul flights.

 

The main catering hub of the airport which is a part of Terminal 2:

Just an overview of the whole thing. To the left I will build a big cargo apron. In the far end you can see Terminal 3. All the terminals are connected by a monorail system.

I might add a 4th terminal in between the runways and Terminal 3. If dont hit any limit before that is haha....

Heyho!

Added quite a big cargo apron to the airport (DHL being the main operator):

Im still working on the surrounding area at this part of the airport...

 

The main bus transit hub aswell as a taxi drop on/off. The area is connected by the monorail system.

 

The regional train station. Nothing fancy but it does work:)

 

I did go ahead and added two satellite terminals (as if the airport wasnt large enough haha....)

 

Terminal 4, one of the satellite terminals are used exclusively by North American airlines.

 

The other one is used by a mix of airlines:

Next up is the hangar/maintenance area.

As a fellow "Malmöbo" I have to say that I love your recreation of Malmö and definitely would want to see more! Especially now with the new train station and the re-opening of Malmöringen.

Long time since the last post but here's a small update!
 

Overview of the current state:

 

Added a hangar area: (mainly serves the local airlines (SAS/Norwegian)

 

As with many of large airports nowadays, the lost cost airlines moves in. I went ahead and expanded the airport with a low cost terminal. It has it own bus terminal and can be reached with car/shuttle train and by foot.

 

Had to rebuild abit to facilitate the new terminal. Two seperate taxiways leads to the terminal:

Awesome, ill give you a shout if I come to think of any! :-)

The only ones I would love at the moment would be some liveries for ATR 72/42, but i dont think there is any good model out if im not mistaken :-(

New airport....yet again haha...

As always, its a work in progress.

 

Overview. The layout is roughly based on Macau airport:

 

Cool place for a ATC-tower:

I made the aiport as an Lufthansa base:

 

Bus, taxi and car drop off:

 

The airport holds 18 gates and 22 remote stands (aswell as a number of smaller remote stands, but im too lazy to count them :-D )

With such a large number of remote stands buses are heavily used to transport the passengers to/from the aircrafts:

Ladies and gentlemen welcome to St Maarten and Princess Juliana International Airport!

 

Lots of detailing have gone in to this. Demanding but fun! Its quite hard to find suiting buildings and google maps isnt as detailed as in other places.

 

KLM B747-400 from Amsterdam on short final while an Amercian B757-200 bound for Miami holding for departure.

Almost complete with the airport and the area in close proximity to the airport!

To bad there arnt any DHC-6-300 on the workshop, so had to place something similar!

 

Couldnt find any good terminal, but this will have to do. Not really 100%, but it is white atleast haha:

Built on a very challenging landscape I can only imagine the cost of this project!

Im still working on detailing the whole airport so nothing is final yet.
