Terrain mod that isn't so green?

Can anyone recommend a terrain mod that doesn't make everything look so green? At least not at all elevation levels.

I've been playing the game for two years now and still haven't used a terrain mod .Though I love the look of HD terrain, I find that all the terrain mods are just too green. I'm from California, so I like a little bit browner terrain in some spots, especially at the higher elevations, like the default Maxis one. Are there are any that kind of have a similar color scheme as the default (i.e. less green the higher you go), but are HD?

I may use a desert one, but I'm not sure.

Orange_o has the Pyrenean Terrain mod, which is available at toutsimcities.com, but it's still too green for California users.

Tarkus also has the Wasco Terrain mod, available on the LEX, which is also oriented toward more arid climates. CP also has the Italia terrain mod, which is Mediterranean/California-esque terrain, but still not quite the arid look you probably want. To be honest, the best solution is probably to make your own (something I've been thinking about for a while), but perhaps the aforementioned mods will get you somewhere close to what you want?

Appalachian terrain mod by Lowkee (available on LEX) is quite brown, but not really similar to the Maxis colour scheme. There are some mods that match your description, but are not HD.

The only HD terrain mods are the now unavailable Berner Oberland and Sudden Valley, Appalachian and TSC's Pyrenean.

However, I'd imagine you'd be able to find what you are after if you remove your requirement for a HD terrain mod.

If you have some ability with making textures, creating your own wouldn't have to be hard. You could simply take another Terrain Controller which was closest to your requirements and just replace the textures.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Okay, it doesn't have to be HD. I didn't realize there weren't that many HD ones. You can suggest ones that aren't HD. At this point I kinda just want to use something other than the default that has kind of a more arid look without being full-blown desert.

(I did like the look of the Italia one. Still a bit green for my liking, but it was probably the nicest out of the ones I tried).

When I first went for a terrain mod, I just downloaded a few and tried them out. You are best using a test setup/region whilst messing around. It could be useful to have a series of screenshots together comparing all the terrain mods. That wouldn't be so hard, there can't be that many.

I've just remembered I've a picture lying around that should make comparing the 4 HD mods real easy though:

^ Brilliant. That's a nice way to make the comparison.

On a side note: All of the Gobias stuff is no longer available. (I mentioning that in case @MintberryCrunch likes those.)

EDIT: I didn't note I just bumped an old thread, erase this if is inadequate...

Maybe some of Heblem's terrain mods?
Sure, they are very saturated, but adjust nicely to the ecosystem you are trying to replicate. From less to most saturated:

They are all old SD mods, so there isn't the crispy quality, but loading times are lower too.
