Hi guys.

I've got some questions about the nightlights.

I was wondering what makes the game chose if a building will light up during the night or not.

I think the occupancy is on of the factors, but I've also noticed that buildinsg (commercial ones) with just a few employees missing would not light up, while some with more people missing would.

Is there an absolute limit of occupancy at which a building will stay dark ?

Is it also related to land value ?

 

Also... I wonder if there is a way to force lights to show up (to check some custom stuff).

I have this one...

...that doesn't want to light up, no matter what. I have lots of cusomers, low crime, low pollution, etc etc... Only thing I've not managed to get is full occupancy.

I have the same issues with the Mars content as well. Some of my models will light up and some wont.

I'm not total sure, but as far as I'm aware there are only two instances when a building doesn't light up; the first being the author didn't make night lights. There are many models, especially older ones where authors simply didn't make night lights for them. 

The second instance is if the building is abandoned. This results in no night lights being shown.

Apart from this, buildings should light upfield they have highlights. However, this is only to the best of my knowledge.

    Even vanilla buildings do not light up all of the time.

    And for this particular building, the author is not an unknown and has made tons of good stuff (with nightlights... very good looking nightlights).

    Oh and this building offers  19966 jobs  in the ploppable version... I managed to have it at 19222... I would say it is far from empty ;)

     

    I'm a bit puzzled. :???:

    I'll try to have the growable version show up.

    As far as I know occupancy (at least, higher occupancy) and land value have absolutely nothing to do with lights. All buildings are supposed to light up at night, unless:

    1. You don't have the official patch that allows custom buildings to have night lights show up in-game
    2. The building is abandoned or it's occupancy is very low (which will make it look abandoned) or its occupants' wealth has decreased (which will also make it look abandoned)
    3. The building never had any lights to begin with

    Upon further research, the building in question falls into category three. I'm familiar with that content creator and he had at least two buildings that had no night lights. He released a version 2 later on:

    Thanks !! I must have seen the more recent version but didn't notice it was the same (because the new one showcased almost only the night shots).

    And I must say... WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE REMOVE THE OLD ONE OR SIGNAL THE NEW VERSION ????!!!! (sorry for the capslock... I think it's deserved !)

    @Cool_Z you can still use the building, but it will look darker than your other buildings at nighttime.

    Notice that Militant Radical does this in his Ionica city journal, and the end result is noticeable but not particularly off-putting. It works which is unusual, but not entirely unexpected.

    It can work with some buildings, yep (I've decided to keep a few of the darknite stuff I found), but if it is ok with certain buildings, it looks awful with others.

    And well... if you install custom buildings, you might want to install the best looking ones, not the "problematic" ones ;)
