Any hints on where it's going next?

I was thinking about placing it in a similar way in my city. There's a nice mountain overlooking the city where it would fit perfectly.

Oh, this is nice. Overlook indeed.

After a short break I'm heading into the Overlook hedge maze... I just have to :-)

And later? Maybe another crappy motel with a rural gas station or so. I like filming locations that fit my Colorado theme...

After Maison's new beauty I'm really tempted to work on a Louisiana or Mississippi area... but that is future talk.

    Cheers

After a long break from playing C:S and my return working on my Sylva, NC recreation I was tempted to dig up blender again for a few assets that I need for my American small town. After the Overlook Hotel I was quite exhausted using blender and tried to figure out how to model in AutoCAD (which I use professionally for movie and theater sets) and use the converted .dwg 3D model in blender for UV mapping and preparing it for C:S. It was painful but now with a detour through Sketchup I am finally there! There seems to be a decent tri count on these models and the workflow is managable. I'm just so much quicker modelling in AutoCAD so that it's worth the pain.

As a first exercise I made a more or less quick prop that I needed for my Sylva Farmers' Market: A simple sign. I'll upload it to the workshop as soon as I remember the upload process. There will be more to come: Props and maybe small buildings like generic American houses or trailers. But let's not get ahead of ourselves...

Lovely prop! Glad to see you back, loved your other assets. Texture work as always is top notch.

I thought this would be quick - but in fact it turned out to be a complete building with all the forgotten pain of UV mapping and low tri modeling. I just published it as a prop because it's most versatile like this and you can place it anywhere in the woods without road access. You'd just need firewood. For tables I recommend these:

because they're not so oversized like many others.

The original is in Sylva, NC but can be found in many parks and sport fields across the US.

Here we go (the uploaded asset has a less bright cement floor btw):

And this pic should rather go to my CJ about Sylva - finally I got rid of the ugly and bold picnic pavilion at this beautiful spot...

Here we go with the next project: It's just a house...
Building my American small towns I always missed this kind of simple house with nothing but one floor, a porch, with just enough space for 2 small bedrooms - that's it. Nothing too colourful either. Unfortunately most vanilla and custom assets are bloated and badly scaled (like many props too) so my house might look a bit small - but it's perfectly scaled to the inch (or to the centimeter - I'm metric...). I prefer it to be realistic despite the small difference in scale...

I'm not into creating variants and complete lots with lots of props and trees - I like to do this in game depending the circumstances of the building. But if anyone feels like creating a few furbished lots feel free to do so - just add my credits for the building.

The workflow from modelling in AutoCAD to the finished blender asset gets quicker and the result is quite nice in terms of tris. This house just has 274 - in spite of the chimneys, the porch and the articulated roof.

Check it out on steam: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1321658963

Here's some pics from the actual location of the inspirational house in Sylva, NC:
