Pokémon: 20 Years Later

The first Super Bowl ad has been unveiled and announces a new Pokémon release for 2016, called Pokémon GO. At the same time, a website recaping 20 years of Pokémon is online [link]. 

It seems incredible that, at least, 16 years have gone since the times I duelled with my elementary school friends via the link cable... Pokémon meant a true revolution for kids like us, who found a different way of having fun besides football and playground games. Pikachu, Hypno, Nidoking, Venusaur, Mewtwo... My first Poképarty. Those really were the days.

Pokémon Go is a blast! I'm currently at level 14! It's a freemium mobile app with only non-legendary Gen1 pokémon. It encourages exercise and socialization by using GPS and augmented reality to find pokéstops, gyms, and pokémon out in the real world and a GPS-based pedometer for egg hatching (and Jogger milestones).

Level 15 here and yeah, I'm having big fun so far with it! I had never walked so much since these two last weeks... The only downside, the infestations of Drowzees, Pidgeys and Rattatas that batter Berlin.

I've never really been a huge Pokemon guy, but I've started playing Pokemon GO, since they now support Intel-based Android phones, and I actually love it. Haven't played it in a bit though, tried today but the state park had no 4G signal.

I have been playing Pokemon Go in a casual basis and I kind of like it. What I really like the best is that the game had shown actual results with reconnecting the people in the community. I had talked to a family of four who had been playing the game as a family.  It was really nice and touching to hear that it made them much closer together and is a perfect tool for the kids to show around what the city looks like instead of being stuck at home.  I had also talked to complete strangers at the bus about the game and it was nice to hear their opinion about the game and the community in general.

Pokemon Go got an update yesterday, removing the "Nearby" functions. 

I guess that's good, considering the Pokemon games wouldn't tell you where the Pokemon is, from what I've played - you had to explore to find them.

Well, I haven't tried Pokemon Go but it sure does look awesome. I might be able to try it one day after all these college stuff is done.
