C:SL Batting Competition ?

Hi folks !!

I was thinking about the time when C:SL was released, they set a building competition and they were quite a lot of entries.

Builders should be encouraged, are there any plans for a C:SL batting competition ?

It could help fill some gaps in the existing bats (like industry, or certain levels of residential).

I don't know... that's why I ask the question.

Do we have people interested to participate ?? :???:

Yes. I'm not the greatest modeler, and am usually incredibly busy, but I'll make an attempt!

we could create challenges similar to those over at cgtalk/cgsociety so ppl could follow the progress too. i love to follow those challenges!

though we might want wait for some of those annoying bugs to be fixed before we start the first.

yeah there are some lod and import bugs atm which have been confirmed bei CO_DAE.

eg. atm your assets might break if you don't provide all texture maps for your LOD etc.

Nice idea, I'd definitely give it a go. There have to be some very clear rules though and IMO polycount and texture resolution should be taken into consideration too.

    Agreed 1000%

    For me this is part of a good building, how it looks ingame, but also the fact that it won't kill my game or melt my machine.

    Yes, I'm very cautious with "foreign" assets, since most don't give any info on performance. I just recently had to remove an asset that had 30'000 polys for the main model AND the LOD. I mean, it looked great, but with so many polys thats not very hard to achieve. It's just annoying that many asset creators don't seem to care about performance and most players won't either. So why should I care ?

    This building for example looks great, while beeing very leightweight ;)

    I just found the "mesh info" mod that really helps to sort out bad assets.

    back on topic:

    The Building Themes mod opens up new possibilities. I would suggest a growables contest. Some ideas:

    * China Town

    * Paris

    * Mobile homes/camping

    * Africa/Middle east architecture

    * historical town center

    * high-tech industry (recreate sc4 buildings?)

    I think that there are enough skyscrapers and ploppable buildings

    Hmmm... yeah good idea !!!

    I personnaly would go for High Tech, because at the moment we simply have none.

    Even regular industry btw, there is close to nothing on the steam workshop and the few things you can find there are just recolors and tweaking of existing stuff.

    Do you want to create high tech assets for all wealth levels, or just lvl 2/3?

    You could create a theme that uses vanilla assets for level 1 and custom assets for 2 and 3.

    I would enter a contest but it would be one with parks/plopables because I have never done any growable assets. Not saying I can't I just usually stick too those because the buildings I create are usually unique or they should be place by you so they are not spawning right next too each other.

    I think we need lvl1 too, because it has to start somewhere.

    Sure that not everyone will want to conform to a particular theme...

    Why not alternate between "freestyle" and themed contests ??
