It only makes sense to start a post about farms and agriculture.

Here are some farms from Tamboria to kick start this thread.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Those wouldn't be the fields I uploaded to the workshop, would they?  :)

Very nice pictures indeed! I made a small farming community as well, but went on a completely different approach. The forum won't let me link the image so here is the link instead: http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/707402399198656686/53A3D2382756237D8BBAB5964303D9C9631B7D58/

If only I had a smaller train station and some nature tools besides a bunch of trees  :lost:

That looks lovely Jesper107. A little bit bright for my tastes but I know you can't really help it with eh options the asset editor gives you.

Cheers

Yes they are your fields! But in your picture they look more golden yellow, I guess it is the different terrain type.

Love this game! After getting the hang of it I'm starting to create areas that seem realistic/ beautiful so here is my farm land.

It feels extremely flattering and very strange to have people use your assets seeing that I am a complete 100% amateur when it comes to modding!

Farms look good, however fields without functionality, only eye-candy, cannot offer much. Waste of space.

I just started dabbling in farms.  I don't like the futuristic looking buildings!  I bulldoze them until they're gone.  There should be 3 levels to farming and those buildings should be level 3.

    Ube9mpF.jpg1awHt41.jpg

I wonder if someone could mod farming so more fields grow instead of buildings?  That could help a lot.  Even when I bulldoze obsessively, there seems to be a lock on field/building ratio.

Eye-candy trumps functionality, that's what a lot of the great SC4 city journals do.

Like with forestry, the ratio seems to depend on how strong the color is. If there isn't any in the "resources" tab, then you get only buildings. If the color is maximally strong, you get mostly fields. This is a stretch with relatively strong color:

Looks great, but aren't those farms a bit too close to the city centre? I like the Dutch windmill BTW! :P

True :) But the tallest buildings were supposed to stay midrise and I left them without supervision while I was working on something else, so they grew :(

I have some serious bulldozing to do now.

Bulldozing won't help. They will grow back again a couple of seconds after you delete them.

How do I get large farms fields? My lots are turning out to be very small ones.

Do I need to have a mod?

Some of the fields you see in these pictures are in fact parks (assets downloaded from the workshop) which look as agricultural fields but don't function as such. The farm fields in this game are in fact very small, so the rest is made of eye-candy assets... and a little of creative genius! :) (some of these guys are real geniuses! :D )

I think it has to do with the type of map you are using: they're yellow in the tropical theme. If you want more color, you should try "simulated" fields (ie: eye-candy parks that look like agri fields) from the workshop or "paint" your (simulated) fields with brushes, using the "ruined" and "gravel" brush from this collecton: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=416082909

Otherwise, I don't know if there's a mod that lets you change the kind of agricultural field that grows on tropical maps...

I took a stab at making a farming district, with a few custom fields of my own, but after looking at what everyone else has done, my farms seem so vanilla and so corporate!  When the building eye-dropper mod is fixed, I will be putting it to use here.

I could make a farm field Building theme that contains only fields and almost no farm buildings. Are there any good farm assets on the workshop?

    There's an idea!

Steam user @kei_em has started building some Japanese themed farm fields, and in fact has a nice little collection of other Japanese buildings too.

    http://steamcommunity.com/id/kei_em/myworkshopfiles/?appid=255710&p=1&numperpage=30

Also, user @kidhedera has focus a lot of his custom lots on farming, but he includes a lot of buildings.

    http://steamcommunity.com/id/kidhedera/myworkshopfiles/?appid=255710&p=1&numperpage=30

I think a lot of us are unhappy with the standard farm buildings.  Those big futuristic factory-farms grow at level 1, when they should probably be level 3.  There's a decided lack of little family farms and barns and stables.
