okay, you might want to work on your slopes.  I would never dream going down one that steep.

The average car slope is 14%.  That looks more that 100%  (45 degrees is known as 100%)

Though, nice job.look snice.

I think that would look better if you added some flora to that pine trees whatever. It looks nice though.

I like round-abouts too, they seem to be able to handle large amounts of traffic better then a crossroad. The connections between my residential highrise and my commercial areas always tend to get flooded with traffic, no matter how many mass transit options I give them. This round-about is doing its job well enough, it's yellow on the trafficmap, not red. 1.gif

round.jpg

My only problem is my industrial area. People can use the highway or the subway. Seems my city likes subway better even though its more aimed at rich people:

Of course that part shows up as red often on the traffic map 7.gif

I'd love to see some examples of how to control the flow beteen residential highrise (just having 5 4k+ res buildings on an avenue seems to generate WAY too much traffic, even with added busstops and rail) and commercial areas.

Where did you get that fountain? I'd like a good, circular fountain like that.

there's some great things in this thread, but i don't like the things that are not useful, or that have avenues that are way to steep16.gif

I will get screenshots of some of the simple things I made when I'm going to play tonight.

Here, this is what I made. I think they're beautiful, but it needs some more development around it.

This is a roundabout on top of a highway. In fact the onramps and the offramps in the center of the roundabout must be removed26.gif

This one just looks nice (the development around it sucks:

You guys are just too great.  I am certainly no newbie to the SimCity series, as I've been building in all 4 versions since the original Sim City over 10 years ago.  My problem is though, I seem to always try new arrangements for my transportation network and always revert back to the standard square block arrangement.  I also need to get better at getting my trains and monorails to be better utilized.  My subways and buses are used anywhere from 25% to 125%, depending on the area they are at.  But when I try to use trains or monorails instead I never, except for a select few instances, get any use at all.  In those select few instances, I usually only get utilization of like 1% or less.

I need help...I just guess I have lost my sense of imagination or something. 42.gif

Use the terrain, try to avoid building on steep hills, this forces you to lay your roads in another direction. Also try to make some bends your highways, avenues and roads. That should help. And about your train usage, use rails in combination with bus stops. So lay a rail from residential to industrial, build some station, put a bus stop next to each station, and build some bus stops in places that can't be reached by train. Sims will use bus or car to get to a station, then use train to get to a station near their work, and then walk or use bus to get on their work.

Would be nice if we didn't have to download new regions but rather have a random region generator...or is this an option I've overlooked?  I hate having to spend time terraforming a new area when all I want is something random.

There's no random terrain generator. Just download a nice terrain from the map exchange.

This is a tunnel, roundabout and a start of a highway, of course everything around still has to be developed!

There is a random area generator: RanDEM, do the following:
generate a picture there, open Paint Shop Pro or some similar program, export the picture as greyscale-png and voila, you have a custom region!

I realize you can import images, but I'm referring to how it was possible with previous versions to simply go in to the game and make a selection and the game created a totally random region.  You could then terraform this region or play it as is.  I hate having to wait sometimes as much as an hour for the game to generate a region from a file I import which is why I try to do it only when absolutely necessary.

As I already said, it's not possible to generate a random terrain. I think it would be too complicated for the game to do. If it takes one hour to get all terrain info from an image, how long would it take for the game to calculate all points in a region? There's a HUGE amount of points in a whole region.

EDIT: In earlier versions of simcity the grid is a lot smaller.

There is a program called Landscape Designer that works very well. It creates a terrain picture that you can import into the game. You can also use it to edit a terrain picture if you want. The program can be downloaded here .

EDIT: Didn't read properly. I understand now that you wanted a way to NOT have to import a picture.

aldara6166, there is a random terain generator its called LDsetup0973.exe available on the modding files section under programs its about 7 Megs in size but is a great little program not only can you generate a terrain but you can also do the bitmap for it also and put it all together in a file.

This is one of the junctions in my newest city of my regional journal. It looks complicated but basically the avenue splits, and either you can go onto the highway or travel under and get pulled back on to the highway. Traffic coming in the opposite direction can loop around over the overpass and come back the other way to get onto the highway.
