1. Oh Lord, Forgive me for I have

Are you that "loose nut" holding onto your mouse? XD Glad to hear that stuff works on Vista. I'm waiting until they add soundcard support, stop forcing non-DirectX video drivers to be emulated under DirectX, get rid of the DRM, add Xbox Live crossover stuff... etc.
2. Show us your home City's skyline

My hometown, Santa Rosa, CA, an hour north of San Francisco, population 150,000+. Most of the downtown was destroyed in the earthquakes of 1906 and 1969, leaving us with lots of austere 1970s buildings downtown and throughout the city. The building in the foreground is the tallest; it's housing for old folks, and is located on a fault line. It's not located downtown; it's almost a quarter mile away. The building behind it and to the left is downtown, and is the ugliest building I've ever seen; it's the SBC/AT&T building. Whoever took this picture sure did a good job hiding 101, located a block left of the SBC building.

Thank you for your responses! I haven't really had a chance to work on the stadium any more. I'm still working on the city, and have been so busy with that that I keep completely forgetting save and/or post pictures of it. I did finish the SimBank, but I still need to put it through the plugin manager and create a lot. I'm thrilled with how this turned out. I wish I could have added handles on the doors, but I really didn't feel like going to the trouble. Also, you may note that the window textures are different between the 3dsmax and gmax renders. The final building has the same window texture as my Sarah H. Bingham General Hospital. Additionally, I've added the SimBank into the 3D Studio Max city I'm working on. It's a more simplified version, without the plants or patio furniture. It already has too many polygons.

As far as the spaceship-looking buildings goes, I know the real truth behind the sudden influx of such structures. See, it's to prepare for the Exodus. You know, the secret of SimEarth?

In my 3D Studio Max class, many people are working on creating cities. It's like a SimCity fan's wildest dreams come true. I have total flexibility over what I create, although it does take a lot longer than it would with SimCity. At least that good old greeble modifier is a huge help. A few buildings (and possibly a bridge) will result from this project. I may update tomorrow, as I work in the CAD Lab and will most certainly be working on my city some more. I may update with pictures tomorrow, as well! The city is a blend of San Francisco, Boston, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco. That is, it's primarily based on San Francisco, which is an hour south of where I live. Eventually, this project--which is the final for the class--will culminate in a rendered animation. Expect to be amazed.

Here's a stadium update, in the form of a render from a few days ago. The biggest changes are: the addition of shops and Stadium offices off to the right (still in the early stages), and the addition of a rear entrance sign, beyond center field, and the field is now below ground level. There are only two textures applied here: the scoreboard and the central (national) flag. For some reason, the textures on the other two flags didn't appear. Here's that render (a night render): It's not very detailed, but I couldn't save the render, and would have had to take multiple screenshots. There are no SimBank updates yet. I haven't worked on it any more.

Date: 10/2/2005 4:44:58 PM Author: LakeTrash311 If you look on Google Maps' satellite images at the farmland of the US Great Plains or Southern California, you can see the inspiration for this part of the Alien Love Secret region. quote> Yes, Google Maps is awesome for this kind of stuff. Great job so far! I admire the realism you've put into your cities.

SIMBANK UPDATE: I added the sign and patio furniture. Let me know what you think. Approximately the same shot as last time: A render of the front protrusions with patio furniture: Another of the rear area with the patio furniture, closer up to discern the detail of the furniture: I'm still working on the stadium on the side. I don't really have much of anything to show yet; It's partly disassembled, and I'm primarily fiddling with things to get an idea of how certain parts should be. One major change is that the field is now below ground level, as it would be in most major league stadiums.

I'm still working on the stadium, but here's a bank (SimBank) that I started a while back, and picked up again after discovering the solution to my problem in my 3D Studio Max class. This is, of course, in 3dsmax: I'm thinking of putting the company logo on the angled part above the entrance doors. It'll probably be attached to the brickwork. I also have to add some patio furniture and roof junk.
10. New member ... with a 3d model question

gmax cannot convert files to .3ds, unfortunately, though it can import them. The reason behind this is that it could concievably be used to generate models that (gasp) could be exported into .3ds, and used in 3D Studio Max for profit. Only 3D Studio Max can export its .max files into .3ds files. Unfortunately, 3dsmax cannot open or import .gmax files, at least not without augmentation... though I do not know if this has ever been done. However, I once found something that added a Quake (I believe it was) plugin that allowed both 3dsmax and gmax to both import and export files in their format. I never got it to work, though, and I'm not sure where I put those files. They're probably on my laptop. At any rate, the only conversion that works is using 3dsmax to export a .max into a .3ds, then importing the .3ds in gmax. I've used this to render buildings that I've made in 3dsmax (because I also couldn't get BAT4MAX to work )
11. Favourite city

I haven't been to too many cities, but of those that I have been to, these are my favorites: San Francisco beautifully revitalized waterfront/the Embarcadero, Pier 39 (its arcade, Riptide, has In The Groove 2 ), and the extremely hilly terrain offers unparralleled views of the surrounding area. Coming around any curve, you could suddenly come upon a view of downtown or the bay that you just want to capture forever. Also, SF is close, like 60 miles. Washington, D.C.: Well layed-out, great subway system, free museums, and interesting history. Lots to do--almost too much! Denver: Great bus system (lots of busses and low fares), and very beautiful area around the Capitol. I don't remember too much, it's been awhile (almost 10 years) since I've been there.

Awesome! I like the shape and colors. It's great. However, the only issue I have with it is the bottom floor. The semicircular windows don't really match the hard, angular style of the rest of the building. I would suggest something rectangular, possibly with some angled beamwork, window divisions, or whatever to match the angled section on the front of the building. Alternately, you may stay with right angles and create something there with a stepped effect, to match the style of the rear corner of the building. I'm being so critical because I really, really want this building. I really like some of the angles that you've got screenshots at.

After seeing an episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor onAdult Swim, I was moved to make a landmark that came about in theshow. Tom wants to save a bird sanctuary, and he goes to theMayor to get the final signature, but the Mayor comes up with a plan tomake money to save the bird sanctuary. He proposes that they buya lot of ceramic birds and re-sell them at a higher price. Butthey're worthless, and probably will be for hundreds of years. They bronze the ceramic birds, but they are still just asworthless. The subsequent attempt to "de-bronze" the birds leavesthem in shattered piles, and the bronzing plant has made enough moneyin the meantime to annex the bird sanctuary land. The Mayor usesthe shattered ceramic to make a large monument to Tom Peters, a hugetoilet with a plaque, "Dedicated to Tom Peters, friend." (Orsomething along those lines) I made it for Jefferton, my attempt at re-creating the city in the show. Anywho, here it is. I made it months ago but am only now getting around to uploading it. <ahref="https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=64805&pageNo=1&num=30">AgentUhOh7's BAT Showcase Extravaganza!!
14. BAT-Artists -- Out of new Ideas?

Woah! These are AWESOME SC3k buildings! Way better than anything I created, or maybe I just can't compare, because I mostly made smaller buildings, such as my infamous Lego-themed buildings (available on the old SimCity.com exchange). Though it was nowhere near as flexible as gmax, it sure made BATting quick and easy!
15. Woah! I guess I underestimated your skills. It's looking great! Keep up the good work. Sunken Highway walls are definitely in demand.
