Looking to download a plugin pack...

Heya folks,

I recently moved to a new computer, and the external HD which held all of my SC4 plugins has died. I don't have a concurrent list of what I had, and it will take forever to find and download all of the dependencies, lots and what-have-yous that I'd want, so...

I'm looking for a pack, perhaps a 'recommended plugins' or a big rar of stuff, that I could download and immediately jump into the game with. I vaguely remember downloading something similar on a message board somewhere, but I don't remember what it was called. Size is no issue as this baby has 2TB of space.

Thanks in advance.

You'll be very hard pressed to find a plugin pack at all; redistribution of plugins is discouraged around here, and they're tuned to the tastes of whoever compiled it; whatever the packmaker likes, you might not.

There's also the issue of documentation and dependencies that would have to be shipped with such a pack, and some plugins are so advanced, they have to be installed using an installer; just copying the installed files from someone else won't work. This isn't even getting into the issue of "stealing other people's work", which is globally discouraged by the community, as mentioned already.

Here's something for a quick start. Part of a multiplayer mod for SC4.

The other problem with these plugin packs is updates. Especially the NAM gets outdated every once in a while with a new release, and so do some other plugins. It would be hard to keep track of that if you don't know what you've exactly got installed and therefore it's also hard to know what you already have and what you are still missing...

In general, plugin packs are not a good idea...

Don't bother downloading pack from reddit. You will get tons of brown boxes.

I've been working on this project but I can't release it because of copyright.

I am working on another project now and it will hopefully solve "dependency hell" problem for sc4 without breaking any copyright statement.

And just looking at this shows why plugin packs are such a bad idea, just taking the RTMT pack as an example, the one you have included is not the latest one, there is an update to this one, plus two addons

I took a different approach and am just cataloging all the plugins on all the sites, people still have to do some research, but hopefully it will make finding things a lot easier

Well, it wasn't necessary to remove my github repository link, it doesn't contain any binary files. I already said I can't release mods due to copyright reasons and I stopped working on it.

I am working on another project to save humanity atm :-)

It's in pre-alpha stage. Some very-early SS from Linux build:

    hzcmCvb.png

It's basically a package manager for SC4, similar to Curse Client or Nexus Mod Manager or any GUI package manager in Linux distributions.

I am aiming to solve dependency hell problem in SC4 mods and provide "smart upgrades" to users. It will download mods from Simtropolis (only Simtropolis have rights to distribute some mods). It will be completely open sourced and community driven project. I hope Simtropolis admins will agree with my perspective and not block my project in future.

It's designed to be cross platform and native look on every platform: Win7 SS, OSX SS

I have very limited free time to work on this project atm, so I don't know when it will be ready.

Over at the LEX (SC4 Devotion)

    https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/index.htm

They already are using a dependency tracker, it relies on the creator (or someone going back in later) to add all the dependencies, when you go to download something you just click on the dependency tracker button and it will tell you what the dependencies are, if they are on the LEX if you have already downloaded them are not, and where to go to find the other dependencies
