Update from 1.1.610 to 1.1.638 by Origin Games

Hello folks, my name is Santiago and this is my first post in this forum. Please excuse me for my possible grammar mistakes; english is not my native language.

 

So, the thing is, I've recently bought SimCity 4 Digital Deluxe edition at Origin's website, downloaded it, and wanted to get the NAM mod. I've been playing SimCity 4 vanilla edition since 2004 (not so often though), but wanted to get this mod for my cities.

 

I got the corresponding update for my region (I've got the North America version), applied it, but it still says "version: 1.1.610".

 

My question is: how do I update this game that I downloaded via Origin? Is it possible?

 

I would really appreciate your help and comments. Thank you in advance!

Descargué la actualización correspondiente para la región del juego que tengo (que es América del Norte), apliqué la actualización, pero sigue con la misma versión (1.1.610).

 

La pregunta es: cómo actualizo el juego que descargué desde Origin? Es posible?

Sadly the origin version of SC4 can't be updated, because they sell a modified version of SC4 which can't be patched.

You can ask for a refund there and  buy the game on steam, amazon or somewhere else. There it should come already prepatched.

Out of curiosity, when did you purchase it?  We had heard a report that Origin had briefly been selling the properly prepatched version, and would like to get some idea of a timeline.

Origin have a bizarrely modified version and so it cannot be patched.

 

Right now GoG has the fully patched version available for purchase at 60% off ($7.99), and I can confirm this works as I bought it at full price recently.

Go to www.gog.com (an online game marketplace run by CD Projekt Red, like Steam but DRM free), and create an account. From there, in theory you could download your purchased game to every PC in the world. It's entirely on trust (after the initial purchase), which is admirable IMO.

If you are going to explain the issue to them, don't mention mods.  Even though the game does support mods (and Maxis knows this and supports it), Origin is completely clueless and their reps have tried to feed people bogus info.  Mention version numbers if you can (namely, that they're the only retailer selling 1.1.610, while everyone else has pre-patched 1.1.641).  Given that you did just purchase it, and are definitely within the return window, I suspect they'll probably give you much less of a hard time than they've given others.

 

I am going to try to ratchet up pressure on them to update their version.

Good luck. Tarkus.  This problem seems to be a technical glitch with some marketing idiot at Origin.  They have made a major mistake and will have a hard time backing down from it.  The 1,1,641,0 version must have come from Maxis Studio as they are (theoretically) the only ones equipped to do this.

 

Since both outfits are subsidiaries of EA, the continuing failure of the left hand to know what the right hand is doing is yet another embarrassment for the EA overseer.  Origin isn't doing anything for EA's damaged reputation by doing this kind of dog-in-the-manger trick.  The version 1,1,210,0 needs the EP1 patch set as an absolute minimum because it is a set of bug fixes.

 

I hope you are more diplomatic with them than I could possibly be.

 

Oh, and by the way, I have digital copies of both patches.

I bought a copy from origin last year which was fully patched seem silly to stop selling that version when patches are required for the game to run properly

Yes, the version you're bying at Origin is 1.1.641.

I've been suprised, one year ago I bought SC4 by Origin, and I had also problem with installation on Win 8.1. Now everything works perfect.
