I keep hearing people say we can't add new transit methods, yet in theory couldn't you completely change a transit system from rail to road and list it on the menus as something seperate??? Isn't that the same as a new one???quote>

Well, changing and listing as separate would be creating a new one... and we can't do that.

ok here in omaha we have a major project going on called  "the dodge street project" (because its on dodge street)and it is an overhead express way from 108th ST to 131st ST.

There are 2 bridge like structures going in each direction with 3 lanes each of traffic.

heres a few Pic's of the project so far

012-06-3-30-wb-120-br.jpg

^^here you can see in the back ground where they converge^^

013-06-3-30-wb-120-w.jpg

Theres another pic. of them converging

i think this would be a great thing to add cause it will dramaticaly increase trafic flow andit also looks good too : )

I think stacked highways has been deemed impossible several times. But I don't know, it might be possible.

i was thinking, after jeronij made that new underpass thing, does that mean sunken puzzle pieces could be possible?

it's not impossible, it's just impractical and an honest to goodness waste of time. all network pieces require path files, and path files that carry the same type of traffic (i.e. cars) in the same direction (as would be the case with any double-decker network) cannot be overlaid. well, saying can't might be going too far, but overlaying them cause bugs in the game.

the double decker bridge is rail and cars, or something similar. so far, i havent seen a double decker bridge that had two levels of the same type of traffic.

Lately I've been searching through the threads for news on widening the highways to 8 lanes or more, and I'm having no luck.  So now I am making a request to whoever has the capability to perform this task.  I will be eternally thankful.

First, the image...

HWYRampRequests.jpg

Next, the Descriptions...

In the top of the pic, Ramps which go from both Ground and Elevated HWYS to One and Two Way Streets.... (I know the Elevated HWY's one exists, but I'd like the same for Ground HWY's

In the bottom of the pic, a Ground/Elevated HWY spliting towards another Ground/Elevated HWY.... (For now, I'll use the AVE piece which splits/merges)

>alternate to shown, Westbound HWY to Southbound HWY ramp goes under/over other HWY ramp sections through middle of Ramp area (not shown because not easy to draw)

Image Key:

Red = HWY (Three Lane)

Blue = One/Two Way Street (Two Lane)

Yellow = HWY to Street Ramp (One Lane)

Orange = HWY to HWY Ramp (Two Lane)

PS - What's the latest version of the NAM? I'm downloading/redownloading anything/everything I'll want to use for a fresh start to my Sim City folder at some future point.

I've been asking for that for a while now. But glad to be of service. (Seeing as that's my picture.)

Ironically, the reverse of this has been developed (ground highway to elevated) and will be included in the next NAM.

Had a look in the NAM General Discussion Thread :

Originally posted by: Andreas Roth There is no complete list, since it depends on the actual state of development which items are going into the next version, but here's some stuff you can expect:

- the new interchange puzzle pieces ArkenbergeJoe showed here

- the new bridges smoncrie published in his "Double-decker bridge" thread

- rural highway (based on the ANT)

- various fixes and updates for existing puzzle pieces

- various dual-networking puzzle pieces (el-rail over road etc.)

- mountain trail puzzle pieces

- some new on-slope puzzle pieces

- high monorail/elevated rail (for crossing elevated highways etc.)

- files for plugins are now included in the appropriate plugin DATs rather than the main NAM DAT

- enhanced NAM installer/NAM readme file

Future NAM versions may include:

- draggable puzzle pieces (GLR, pedmalls,...)

- draggable dual-networking

- GLR in avenue

- canal puzzle piecesquote>

how about you use the animations of the car pulling over to the sidewalk when sirens near it happens also when it reaches its destination ? also something to stop cars and trucks from dissapearing after about 5 secs?

I'm not to clear of the first part of your post, but...

What should be the case is the cars stay visible until 5 seconds after they leave your site of view (the screen)... at the closest zoom only, that is... and new cars have to turn from side streets or come up from behind you or you have to come up on them, and they don't just appear randomly IN YOUR PATH...

anyway, that's probably an aspect of the game which is unmoddable, but it'd be nice

That happens though it is part of the game, they are not appering randomly in your path, they are coming form the building that is beside you. THis will tend to happen alot in the industrial areras. You cannot prevent that.

Okay going on to the request:

Great work everyone!!

Any ideas on a release time?

any chance that the high speed rail will be added to NAM, or can we just count on that as something seperate?

The NAM team is currently discussing this issue. The HSRP mod itself is rather independent from the NAM files, but if we want to change the speeds and capacities, we have to change the NAM traffic plugins (only one can be installed at a time). So the HSRP mod might be included as an optional plugin, just like the roundabouts or turning lanes.

sorry if this has been requested before.... but could somebody please create a T junction with a highway (the "roof" of the T) and an avenue as the | part? I have had the need for such a thing many times.

Again, I have not the time to read the entire thread, sorry if it was already requested.

I'm not sure if I understood you right, but you can do that easily with the in-game highway tools. Just pick a regular highway T junction and connect the " | " part to an avenue, like in this picture.

That's exactly what I meant, and what you suggested is what I currently do. But none of my versions have come out as "clean" as that one. They take up too much space.

But I will keep trying this method. thanks. 3.gif

Are you using an elevated T?

If so just drag a ground highway into another highway and it'll create a ground T.

Thats a great idea Sam! I've been searching for expandable highways too; If that could be added to the NAM that would be pretty cool.

I haven't seen it requested anywhere, but has anyone tried to make banked curves on highways. This is a very important part of a highway system that was completely ignored by Maxis/EA.

A question regarding street roundabouts / "nift-e-sacs"*: is it possible to hack in wealth levels for them so that dirt roads and brick street mods can have their own? I stumbled upon a horrible realisation that the brick ones I made will override anything else. I inderstand that they were designed the way they are so that the sidewalks would appear consistently around them, but with all due respect, it's kinda limited.

*Nift-e-sac = roundabout sort of thing on street bends

sorry if this has already been asked, but has anyone created puzzle pieces that will go over a divided highway or avenue [in other words, a puzzle piece to go over the "half of a highway" you get after you drag rail over a ground highway, then demolish the rail]?
