I have a request:
It seems that a lot of work has gone on in NAM development etc, but none of this has been added to the beta since September. Could we get an updated version of the beta NAM download listed on the mods page?

in the NAM general thread tropod has posted a link several times to the newest version.  the mods section is currently unable to be updated cause of upgrades to ST, so find his post on the last page or two of NAM general.

Will the stack interchanges ever be part of the NAM?

what about reducing the size of the diagonal Avenue/ELhighway interchange so that it is more like the straight avenue highway interchange.   The maxis version takes up to much space.

How about Slip Roads for Puzzle Pieces? I was making an elevated Avenue with puzzle pieces in one of my cities, but had to change back to a normal avenue for the slip roads for the roundabouts UNDER the main road...

Hope that makes sense...

if NAM doesn't have them yet you could add straight ground highway avenues on/off rams, because the avenues on/off ramps have to be diagonal, and straight sections allow only overpasses.

It's already possible. Just use the onramp tool and tab through till you get the ground-highway interchange you want.

P.S. when will NAM be a NON BETA i don't plan on installing it untill it is 100% safe for SC4 my computer, my cities and CRASH PROOF, and NON BETA.

Superchad,

I don't think it will ever be NON-BETA as Tropod and others will always find something to add to it. Elevated Rail over Road is currently available in the latest version of the NAM. Unfortunately, it seems that Tropod's webspace no longer exists at the moment., which means you can't download the latest version at this time.

here's my request again (see nam general):

3laneroad.jpg

i think that would me a useful modification for the ant network. this 3 lane road is a cheap alternative to the avenue out of town and has a much higher capacity than a road. it also can be used as temporary road for later expansion. thus on intersections or interchanges it's able to be converted into 4-lane-avenues, so you don't have to create new intersections.
quote>

Other than the request above, is it possible to make an avenue with a center turning lane instead of a median?

let me remind you of the road x road interchanges... people often demanded it. i think it would be useful to create 2 lane freeways...

I don't have a picture but on many ground highways with roads running on either sides the highway. The exits are just litte things like this:
-----------------------------------------------Highway-------
______________       ______________________________
______________\____Exit \_____________
------------------------------------------------
______Road__________________________

I hope you follow that, in real life the exits would be more curved.

what about a texas u-turn for ground and elevated highways
texasu.JPG

the traffic on one side of the highway simply u turns to get onto the other side of the highway or keep straight to get on the highway in the same direction.

I saw the new on-slope puzzle pieces and I was woundering if it is possible to make ones for monorail and elevated rail so when we build them over a sunken highway you don't get them sinking down to be the same height above the ground as they were before the went over the highway.

It's the NAM that brought SimCity 4 out of beta. The ModdSquad does not have the QA resources of a major development house like EA. Lacking such, they still produced a top quality patch fixing many of the original game's bugs and glaring omissions. However, there is zero chance of it ever being tested on every possible setup.

You'll never get something 100% safe and CRASH PROOF. The original games wasn't, and no homegrown patch can fix that. Some portions of the game are simply inaccessible to modding. If you want an improved NAM, then pitch in on the QA side. Download it, run it, and provide detailed bug reports. Your existing cities can be backed up if you are worried, and the NAM can be totally removed if it causes problems.

To everyone else, sorry for the rant. Even not being a member of the ModdSquad, that post touched a nerve. It's got to be rather irritating and insulting for the fine folk spending ludicrous amounts of spare time to make SC more entertaining for all of us.

I would definitely like this option. Could certainly be useful if one planned on building a major highway, but the traffic nor the budget allowed for it. This would provide a way to save money, but leave the city open for future development.

[in reference to the road with exit and on ramps]

sorry if i offended you, i also so that in the NAM Development thread that Tropod add Elevated rail over road only, i was wondenring if he could build it over avenue, streets, and one-way roads, also monorail over these transportation networks, and railroads through (in the road) the transportation networks.

That can already be done with the NAM. Look in the trains menu (or the transport menu).

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

i thought that was in a unrelesed version of NAM, and i thought it couldn't go over streets, avenues, and one-way roads.

Buses:

leed.jpg
In Leeds, there are guided busways. The bus uses sensors to guide the bus along the busway meaning that at stops it's less that a few mms froms the kerb. But that would be particularly noticeable or needed in sc4. The guided busway would though:
A guided bus way, which would be laid seperately probably, adjacent to roads, would merge off the road at a point. It would then carry on until a roundabout or junction with a road. Traffic lights change to red on the roads carrying the busway however lights on the busway change to green, letting the bus through, therefore speeding up bus journey times and bus efficeny.
newguideway.jpg
A guided busway can also be carried in the centre of a dual carriageway.

http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/yorkhumber/bradford/qualitybus/qualitybus/index.htm
This mini-site for First Bradford explains how the recently built busway in Bradford works. It should answer any questions on this.

A more well known and cheaper option of course is bus lanes, now seen in nearly every town and city.
leicester_hinckley-bus-lane.jpg
A bus lane would work in the same way as an avenue. An avenue texture could be used, but the 2 lanes on the outside would be bus lanes defined by a bold white line, red (sometimes green, but less often now) covering, and bus lane written every so often along. A bus lane doesn't offer the quality of a superbusway, but in crowded areas where space is short, this is often a good idea particularly on busy bus routes and where journey times are high.
Most bus lanes can be used by taxi's and cyclists too. At certain times such as after 1800 or Sundays, Bus Lanes are just an extra lane for the road. This isn't vital for SC4 though.

Something I was astonished to not see in SC4 was no bus stations. Ever settlement has them these days. I don't think a bus station needs much explaining, however it could offer a few commercial jobs in the shops an services on the station, and could be integrated into a rail station.
One thing I must make clear though is: Bus Stations are NOT just big bus stops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate it when people say that!

A bus station usually has ticket offices, toilets, newsagents, shops on bigger ones, but most importantly is, is that its indoor! There is a concourse with waiting areas. Much like a station really.

Trains:

Railways are one of the poorest things in SC4. To begin with, there are some decant stations starting to appear on the exchange thanks to BATters such as Kings Cross.
However there needs to be more, and something else:
There should be eletrified lines or at least a choice between the 2. That simply means putting overhead cables and gantries above the lines like in real life.
leeds_station.jpg
Leeds Station (most of it- the surrounding buildings are part of the station but the exteriors were not modernized like the main platform area was)

Overhead Cables on the lines approaching Leeds Station.

I'm sure the concept of overhead cables isn't that hard to understand! You've all seen them around....

Anyway
Happy Christmas
