I'm not sure if anyone suggested anything like this yet, but there are too many pages to go through to check. Anyway, I don't know what it's called or anything, so I drew up a quick design and scanned it if anyone wants to make this. It's like a roundabout highway interchange. I would love to build this in SC4.

Although that looks quite dangerous in high-traffic situations, the people going out from the roundabout will have to stop for the people going in...

And that's where it'll get hard to make. We could have it as a normal merge/diverge like a reverse of the four level stack interchange already in the NAM.

I guess you could increase the diameter of the loop A LOT and then make it easier to enter/exit it.

It's great to see that this suggestion made by me is still one of the most popular! 4.gif

At the same time it's too bad we can't use it in game yet. I hope this will change some time. Unfortunately, I also don't have the time and skills to make it. (Although I managed to make this realisticly looking picture.)

I am currently giving transit modding a try, but failure is coming 15.gif

So, I would like to request this:

atlantainterchangepx6.jpg

It's a mammoth interchange in Atlanta, GA, obviosly, there was no room for a cloverleaf, so this was divised. So I would like to request it, I tried and failed, but someone told me a lack of interchange makers is apparent. But I would very much like to request it myself 2.gif

hay, how about some parks that can be placed over a sunken highway.  it will make the highway apper to be underground, but its not, making U-drive it enabled.

I have an idea for a one (or 3) tile transition from elevated highway to ground highway. It allows for the creation of realistic highway overpasses on ground highways, You would als I am not a modder, but I am a photoshopper so i'll explain what I mean below.

groundelevatedbeforewebzs4.gif

Here is what I started out with. the higwyay is buit up on a berm like most highways I know. thre are onramps and an elevated highway overpass. Now to see what it would look like with the gaps filled in.

groundelevatedafterwebfx0.gif

this is a quick photoshop of what the final product would look like.

The actual puzzle peice would look something like the onslope  elevated avenue puzzle peice, except with highway texture and elevated and ground highway nibs sticking out the ends. The actual transition would take place within one tile. If someone wouldn't mind creating this transition that would be great.

[edit] I just realised this has already been mentoined at least thrice. Anyone know the status of this project?

Well, I have found somthing similar to what ramdonfu requested.  I found it when I was hunting for Japanese BATs/Mods.  34.gif

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5782/escapeoct8051157386449mediumvh8.png (for those who don't have firefox)

Unfortanutley they are not transit-enabled, but other than that, fully functional just like the Big Dig models.

This also compresses the SC4 diamond interchange into just 2 tiles, using the extra space from the sides of the highway for ramp space.  Its a shame you can't drive this though28.gif

Also, it doesn't blend well with either the asphalt or concrete texture28.gif

I just saw this as I was driving home from a friends house the other day... It is called a High-T intersection, and looks like it would be a wonderful thing to have especially where a main avenue goes through a residential area. These are really common on the western probably 5-7 miles of Cheyenne Ave here in vegas, and they make the eastbound drive like a freeway!

High-T.jpg

There's a rough paint sketch, where no matter what the light is for the intersection, the upper lane ofthe crossbar is seperated by a cement median, so they can continue to move while the other cars enter from the leg into the bottom 1-2 lanes. Wonderful time saver, especially if you are prone to hitting red lights like I am.

In Galveston, right near Pelican Island, you'll see something weird...elevated 2-lanes complete with stoplights. Awesome. EDIT: Oh wow. My favorite part of cities is the roads. Where can I get that Y-path?

@LivingInThePast: If you just drag the one-way onto/off of an avenue it will automatically connect. You don't need a special piece. It sounds to me like you are new to the game, or at least the forum. Try just playing the game, and attempt whatever you want to do. After actually trying to do it on your own, if it still doesn't work, search the STEX. Finally, if there is nothing on there to fix your problem, then you can post in one of these threads and someone can help you with whatever the problem is. Remember, most things are possible, and some people have done amazing things in their cities, but this is still a video game, an the developers do have limits. Not everything is possible, but if you try long enough you can get something almot perfect.

@Everyone Else: Anyone familiar with what 'Super Arterial' means in relation to avenues? This is more of a real-world question, as we have 3 going in in Las Vegas, called the Cheyenne Ave. Controlled Access Super Arterial, the North 5th street Super Arterial, and the Rainbow Blvd. Super Arterial. I understand 'controlled access,' or at least think I do, but I'm still a bit sketchy on 'Super Arterial.' Any help is appreciated!

Finally, On www.kurumi.com, are there any downloadable interchanges, or are they all just real-world drawings?

@Maybememories06 I am not 100% sure but I would bet that they are 4-lane avenues with bridges over them instead of intersections... then having on-off ramps for major roads while still having some access to buildings ect. so that it isnt completely a highway.

Correct me if I am wrong anyone.

In the world of passing lanes this is a horrible idea. It means that the right lane moves faster than the left, defeating the purpose of a passing lane. It would result in a lot of unnecessary weaving and a little more road rage than usual on a busy roadway. But that said, it would make a unique addition to the game (provided it's a puzzle piece and not a mod).

I just thought of this on the fly... Since the rural highway can be built as two seperate directional roads, has anyone brought up the concept of using the RH as collector lanes themselves? Side on/off ramps could be used to distribute the local & express traffic. Puzzle pieces could be made to split/merge the RH collector lanes.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank everyone who's been working on this project and putting up with a looooooong request list. Regardless of what we end up seeing in the new NAM, thanks for working so hard at it (yet receiving little or nothing in return). Your efforts will open a lot of new doors for the players and make the game even harder to turn off than it already is! 46.gif 9.gif

Hm.

Here are the Country Streets and a possible view of the Lower Class Country Streets (very narrow, red gravel, and tonnes of pot holes).

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=college+station+texas&ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=30.560423,-96.343483&spn=0.00206,0.005418&t=k&om=1&iwloc=A

Here's something else bothering me: abandoned road and rail!

You can see a fine example of a hacked-off road.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=college+station+texas&ie=UTF8&om=1&z=18&ll=30.568681,-96.306898&spn=0.00206,0.005418&t=k&iwloc=A

Some abandoned roads look like yellow gravel.

Some abandoned roads look like marks in the grass.

One abandoned crossing in Hearne has a big brown gate with a STOP sign on it.

There's another thing...making more railroad crossing gates. The ones that go over the road and the ones that some lights tilt to the left or right for cars. And some without gates. And the crossings with wood, asphalt, rubber substance, or concrete (if it was a concrete road, of course, which this needs badly). Oh, I'm rambling. Sorry.
