  1. Dutch Modern Flats

It looks great. However, I wouldn't really call this 'modern' (anymore), since these flats are mostly from the 1960s and 70s. (And haven't been built since.)

I hope this will change some time. Unfortunately, I also don't have the time and skills to make it. (Although I managed to make this realisticly looking picture.)

Now the intersection has got a lot longer by the widening before the split, on the right lanes. I however would like the intersection to be as small as possible, to place it close tot other intersections and crossings. (I hope you understand what I mean. I'm very tired now, which has a bad influence of my english language skills.)

Note that these are by no means final or anything, they are just to show you all what it may look like. Btw, I know the one is sideways lol, but I don't care: quote> You might want to take some inspiration from this one that looked so much better than yours: quote> Only problem is, that was photoshopped. I'm sure even I could make that in PS Elements if I tried hard enough. As for your other comment, if you want to create a neighbor connection with one ways, just convert them to normal roads right before the border.quote> I know that batting my photoshopped interchange is a lot harder than photoshopping it. I think it is really cool that you are working on it, and respect your work. However, I too think that the interchange should look more like the photoshopped one, to really use it in the game. Most important points are: - The curves could be smoother; - the connections could be smoother; - the direction-split could be closer to the intersections, so the whole thing takes up less space.

Wow Builderman, I think it is really great you want to build one of my two ideas! I do not know what to vote... I both like them very much (that's why I came up with them). However I think the highway is more beautifull, and adds more, I think I would use the avenue more... The avenue-intersection might be made more beautiful by giving the overpass 4 lanes instead of 2, although that would also be more work. Well, I think my vote goes to the avenue, and if it would get 4 lanes would be even better.

Date: 8/4/2004 2:38:19 PM Author: momo Ooh I like that! You are just missing a north-east turn off though.quote> Yes, one cannot go from south-east to east (and vice versa) on this intersection. That is exactly what I want, because it is realistic and uses less space. Besides that, the route SE - E is probably not very important, because the directions are that close together. For a full intersection there already is the standard T and the upcoming Y. Or you could use a combination of three of these.

Because my last Photoshop-intersection was received what so much enthusiasm, I made a second one for you. This is how I would like Y-shaped highway-intersections to be. I think this setup is very realistic, an another advantage is that it takes up very little space. I 'solved' the problem of the transition from 2 x 3 to 1 x 3 lanes in the way it probably would done here in the Netherlands. (However I don't think this is done anywhere here.) First reduce both 3-lane-highways to 2-lane, than join the 2 2-lane-highways to 1 3-lane-highway. Of course it could also be done without the extra lining, because it's not common for SimCity now. It can also be used for an avenue-highway intersection, by first changing the avenue to highway, although a somewhat different version might be better for that. If this version would be used, the 2 lanes of the avenue would first change to 3, and than right back again to 2. What do you think?

Wow, I couldn't hope the reactions to my idea would be THAT positive! Date: 8/4/2004 12:12:11 AM Author: a11eria with that overpass that takes out part of the reason for a turning lane do you think a 2 lane ver of that could be made maybe some how squeze it into 2 tile wide. quote> I agree, I think especially in cities it would look better if 4 lanes went over the overpass, instead of the current 2.

This whould be a nice addition, I think: Especially useful for busy and/or important avenues, with little space. The idea is that it works the same as a normal avenue-road-crossing. The mayor differcence is that the Nord-South-direction (in this particular case) can drive trough at full speed. Because the busiest stream of cars doesn't use the crossing anymore, it is less congested, which also benefits the other directions. Of course this idea could also be used for avenue-avenue crossings. Interesting is that it could also be used as ramps for a 2-lane road. In game, just turn the road into an avenue, place this, and turn it back into a road. In that way it could even be used for a highway crossing with very limited space available. (This is only a sketch, made in Photoshop, I am not really building this know. It is mainly an idea, I wanted to show. I do not mean to say that modders 'should' make it.)

Fantastic, those single onramps! Well, this next one IS photoshopped: This kind of onramp would be really useful te me. I don't see why there should be one tile between the highway and the adjacent road.
  12. NAM General Discussion Thread

uhm... Of course it's best to use an odd number of tiles. That's why 5x5, 3x3 and 1x1 (one tile) are all odd. Roundabouts like this: | O-- | would also be nice.
  13. NAM General Discussion Thread

A small road-road roundabout might even fit on one tile.

Great work you're doing here. I have some suggestions for highway-connections and interchanges: ^ For diagonal-orthogonal. ^ Alternative for the current triple junction. ^ For highway-highway of avenue-highway. ^ For highway on and offramps. Common design, comes in handy when there is no space on one side of the junction. ^ And a roundabout. A big one for avenue-avenue, en maybe a smaller for road-road.
