Hi to all,

thanks for the nice comments !!!

The bridge is fully functional actually as an elevated highway bridge. Paths are made for both, cars and trains, but the ones for the trains need to be tested. Also, Smoncrie is working with the puzzle piece that will allow the trains to use the bridge.

Ill Tonkso, there are some pics and explanations about how to LOD the single deck bridges in the first pages in this thread. Pls have a look. If you have any question or you need help in any determinated point, just let me know ;-D

Thanks for the support again !!!

OH, and yes, some months ago, I decided to retire this project because of my lack of time, I even gave the 3Dmodel files to another member ( Madbee) who wanted to finish it. Unfortunately, there has been no news form Madbee, and recently I feelt right to give the bridge another try, so here is the result 2.gif

You know this is so funny, the thread name is Double-Deck Bridge Experiment its not called lets make new bridges. I'm not trying to be rude but what happen to the Double-Deck Bridge Experiment. No offense jeronij but you should make your own thread about creating new bridges. I swear this is the 100th time I seen this where someone made a forum and after awhile they start making something else. So could you please go back to what this thread was really suppose to be about?

Ill Tonkso: Love your bridge design and your rail stuff.

jeronij & Smoncrie: a very stunning display of the DD bridge!

Keep up the 'most excellent' work! I can't wait for these 'extreme engineering' projects to be released! But I will.

Muchas gracias!

Sweet Jesus on a Stick, that bridge is

              EXCELLENT! *guitar wail*

...And you came right out of nowhere with it, too—you're like Simtropolis' resident ninja or something, Jeronij.

Considering how long it took to render and mod, I suppose a version with a gray/concrete road texture isn't exactly probable.  That's alright, though—'tis a small price to pay for something that even Maxis probably would have thought to be impossible!  The modders here never fail to amaze me.

Also, I'll note that I find it funny how the freight train has the smoke coming up while crossing the bridge; I can imagine someone just driving along, and:

"Hum dee dum!  This bridge is so nice, it's saved my soul, because there just has to be a God for something like this to exist!"

A freight train passes by underneath, leaving a trail of smoke that fills the roadway.

"Holy pea soup, Batman!  I can't see a thing!  What's that thing right up ahe-eeEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

The car flies off the side of the bridge at high speed, and bursts into a blatantly impossible explosion of fire (for dramatic effect) as it hits the water.

...Not that I consider that a real problem, let alone one that can be fixed.

At any rate, thanks for putting forth all the time and effort that goes into such an undertaking; I wish you luck with its completion, as well as with any other current and future projects you may endeavor upon.

I think you should include some metallic viaducts for the railroad, these would be great for the canyons and valleys, so, if you are interested in, I've done some pieces (they aren't finished yet):

Hi fukuda,

this is looking nice so far ;-D

Lets see what Smoncrie says. To be able to make a bridge, you only need one more piece ( the start/end one ) to have all the necessary models, but you need to know how to render them and which ID

Is it possible to add a switching-enabled subway station to each end of the bridge? That may make it possible to simulate a subway bridge with a lightrail bethween two avenue directions. In some situations, subways use road bridges because tunneling a river is too expensive.

Yes, it’s a double deck bridge (and it looks good too!!!).  It still needs work but here are passenger and freight rail on the Tsing Ma Bridge.

Would it be possible to create a ground-level freeway version of the Tsing Ma Bridge that connects into the subway network instead of rail?

Now that we can make new bridges, is it possible to make tunnels under water by making a bridge that has no middle pieces?

Fukuda, it looks like you have the makings of a new bridge there.  PM me and we will see if we can get the process started.  The critical part is how well the pieces join together.  Another thing is that you must make sure that the LODs (even LOD1!) go all the way down to the surface of the rail tracks.

GoaSkin, shasta, that is an interesting idea.  A ground highway version of the bridge is not a problem, because an exemplar parameter allows one to lower a bridge to ground highway height and still use the same models.  The current Tsing Ma Bridge is pathed for both ground rail and light rail/GLR so there should be no problem with SC4 paths. All that is needed is to make a subway to light rail station that is also highway transit enabled so that it could go at the end of the bridge.

Inuyasha fan, I have been working on a “Tunnel Bridge”.  I have not gotten very far yet, but I have proved that it is possible to make a bridge where the traffic goes under water instead of over it.  I am not yet sure if I can make it look good.
