As a Brazilian passionate about football (soccer, as you want), I thought it would be good to create this topic to talk about FIFA World Cup taking place in my country from June 12 to July 13. In this topic I intend to update daily with results and informations. Hope you enjoy, this thread was made to discuss, ask, answer, etc..

Will this event occur or will there just be riots in the streets?  For a country expecting a world event, Brazil isn't much of an example.

Stop putting the country down, I hope this event goes swimmingly.

I wanna see football, not politics.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

Not a matter of putting the country down.  I rather like Brazil.  However there appear to have been a few rather obvious misunderstandings among the disenfranchised, of which there appear to be many?  How many of these agitators are from out of the country?

You'll be lucky of you see football unless things quiet down.

My prediction for England is that we get to the quarter finals and then we -- somehow -- mess it up.

Will this event occur or will there just be riots in the streets?  For a country expecting a world event, Brazil isn't much of an example.

The event will occur, the protests are Brazilians going to the streets to show dissatisfaction with the World Cup. These people claim that other improvements could have been made in education, health and public safety with that money. Just what happens is that Brazil currently has money to do simultaneous 5 World Cups and even improve these sectors, but our biggest problem is corruption and the lack of punishment for the corrupts! The Brazilians took the World Cup to protest because then we will have the chance to show the whole world our real problems that the government hides. Anyway, I created this thread to talk about the World Cup itself.

My favorite singer, Shiina Ringo, is singing the theme song for NHK and the Samurai Japan team.  That is about all I care about.  Go USA, and Go Samurai Japan, I guess.

That's nice! Can you post the video here? Would be great.

And I've to tell you, U.S. is becoming strong in football, I believe they will be really good in this World Cup. About Japan, is also a good team, I really like Keisuke Honda, the player.

World Cup 2014: Luis Suarez texts England players to tell them - 'I'll be fit for England v Uruguay'

    LOL

    Suarez is great player!

About Eduardo da Silva, I don't know so much about him, but I'm sure he's right to play by Croatia, even as a form of gratitude.

To put a bit of positiveness on the thread, I have to say these are some nice stadiums. Did the country have so large capacity stadiums before winning the bid? This means, there have been extensive works in the stadiums?

Yes, before being chosen to host Brazil already had great stadiums! Only the current Estadio Nacional de Brasilia is new, the others were just renovated.
However, I must remember that many of the renovated stadiums were built in the 1950s, when there was another World Cup here.

The people who are coming out to the streets to protest are not vandals, 99% are good people who just want the country best. Unfortunately a few thugs enjoying the crowds to do wrong things and not be identified, but they are the minority. The World Cup will take place and what we will see is more football, I do not doubt that.

My prediction for England is that we get to the quarter finals and then we -- somehow -- mess it up.

I always imagine England going well, you have amazing players, I can not understand why England did not have much success in the World Cups.

Now, the official theme to the World Cup 2014 (I hated it btw)

Time will tell.  The venues are very impressive as I hope the sport will be.

By the way, this form of football is also called 'calice' (Kal-ee-chay) in Italian and it was originated by a group of scions of rich families in Florence (Firenze) kicking an inflated pig bladder around in the plaza in front of the cathedral in the Renaissance.  I wonder if the statue of David (minus the stupid fig leaf) was there at the time.  Sure would have been in the way, sort of.  AFAIK, this sport is one of the oldest in the world other than the basic Olympic sports.

It also requires the least equipment, and probably the most skilled players.

CBC is planning to broadcast the whole event.  Should be a lot of fun.

Oh, and did I say, a really hate professional sports of all kinds.  Too much money being made and such little sport.

You may have a chance if Spain failed on the group stage. I know I may sound like a crazy guy or something but...

La Liga has been disputed until the latest week this year, one of the most hardest Ligas remembered. This involves FC Barcelona players and Real Madrid players, who are the majority of the national team starting players. You only have to see how the Real Madrid players finished the UCL finale absolutely exhausted. On the FC Barcelona side, they have won no trophies this year, and that array of "tiki-taka" teamplayers we saw on the last World Cup is 4 years older, as they demonstrated on club matches.

I predict not a good ending for Spain's national team this time. They had an array of factors on their side during the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 UEFA Euro, but now these factors are there no more.

I'm counting the days... til this is finally over!! the hype is just over the top. there's figuratively nothing that is not soccer-themed right now and that to a point it somewhere between ridiculous and annoying.

granted, I am not a big fan of soccer. too much hate too much violence among the "fans". you just can't go to the local pitch to watch a game with the family without being alarmed the entire time cuz there's always nutjobs around tryna start a fight... got into this once on a darn youth game n these f... fine people didn't even make a difference between father, son, mother or daughter and even worse, planned this right from the getgo, spying on "us" all the game to check for the quality of the upcomming fight!!

nope never again Ima put step even near a soccer game...

And then there's too much idiocy on the field both with players, fair play is a 90s myth, and the refs... I don't even start with that, just this much: I'm fine with difficult decisions as the speed of the game is insane, but still the number of obvious misjudgements is too damn high.

But of course I'll watch the games on TV as far as my schedule allows it since the time difference between the old world and latin america is high.

oh and yes even tho I'm european I prefer to call it soccer as football to me always was and always will be handegg aka american football ;)

Will be a fantastic tournament. I think Brazil are a team of destiny and will defeat a European nation in the final.

My surprise team is Portugal. A Brazil v Portugal final would be quite an event.

My surprise team to disappoint is England. I will be surprised if they make it out of the group stage.

You know, the power of names. I always considered him a below-standards, overvalued forwarder; but he is more "known" and "feared" by rival players than Negredo or Llorente.

That's something you can attribute to a lot of names on the squad lists. but like with everything, psychological games are a part of it and big names are always helpful.

    Brazil: 3, Croatia: 1

Brazil were pretty scrappy muthas; dodgy at defence, insane on the attack and consistently powering through the defenders.

Good game and a great start to the world cup!

Tomorrow the best match going will be the Spain vs Netherlands starting at 20:00 GMT.
