I propose we add a maps section to the STEX, because of offline mode locally saving maps to your computer. Is this possible?

I haven't played offline mode yet, so I don't have an extensive knowledge on it, but I don't believe I understand. If the maps are locally saved to your computer, what's the point of uploading them exactly?

I would like to add a proposal.

Divide mods into:

  • mods online - mods that are fully available in any mode
  • mods offline/sandbox online (private) - mods that are either only available in offline mode or in private sandbox region online

Regarding maps - did you find a way to manipulate them?

This one actually sounds like a good idea :D

In view of the recent problems, I think you should wait a bit.  Good suggestions are often hard to implement.

FYI, Dirk has added some new categories to the SC13 section:

  • Buildings
  • Programs & Tools
  • Vehicles
  • User Interface

Not sure about sharing cities whether this would be feasible. This isn't allowed with SimCity 4 due to the large size of a region, and of course the plugin compatibility issues.

Does anyone know the average file size of SC13 cities, and whether they can be successfully imported into another player's game?

I actually agree with migamn with the offline/online mods sections for dividing up game mods, that would be helpful. This could make the SC5 STEX a lot more organized.

I don't know the size but I suspect, even with the smaller universe of discourse, that the files will be over the STEX limit.  People who want to share city images would be well advised to use dropbox or some other file sharing software to do so.  I suppose one could post a link on the STEX.  Clearly this applies to off-line users only.

Having only Online & Offline as sections would be too broad, compared to the more specific way mods are currently sorted (Vehicle/User Interface etc).

I don't see a problem with mods simply stating their Online/Offline compatibility in their description along with any other important notes about their use.

Regarding the current sections, I notice there's still a lot of mods under 'Game Mods' that can be classed otherwise:

    Vehicles

    User Interface

    Roads & Traffic

The following mods are in a bit of a grey area at the moment:

Transport Networks (not just "Roads & Traffic")

(Station could be called a building)

New & Reskinned Objects or Structures (not quite "Buildings")

    (Arguably affects simulation)

    (Unsure if it reduces pollution)

"Game Mods" is quite vague, perhaps rename to "Gameplay & Simulation".

"Buildings" currently only include Oppie's replacement models, a lot of the Game Mods relate to buildings though so that could be confusing.

At the time i posted the proposal, there wasn't any change. Sure now it seems to be a bad proposal ;)

The benefit in having online section would be: I could find the mods i want to have - because i only play online! Never i will play offline.

    *Bump*

Any thoughts from mods/admins on updating the sections? (see )

That's actually pretty well made. Still though, they should be separated even further for offline only or online and offline use.
