Here is one of my massive regions I attempted to build on once, but just took far to long to load 7.gif. There are a few cities on a little peninsual however.

To give an idea of the size here is a close up of the area around where I was pointing to.

And the bridge that is pointed out (the little line on the first image that line is acctualy pointing to)

Othella58: Just type in snow on the search bar and look for any of jeronij's or cycledog's terrain mountain cap mods and i think first you also need the cycledog terrain mod wich is great.

My current region size is 32x48, but I might expand that or something...

It's all large maps, so it wouildn't take too long to build on it.

Would any of these massive region people mind posting their computer specs (RAM, processor, video card)? I am curious as to how one can even load regions that large.

My computer with a 1.8 GHz AMD Athlon, 1 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon vid card starts to choke at regions of 25kmx25km or higher.

40x36, 280tiles
auckland1011.jpg
A scale map of the Auckland region, tiny compared to these monsters, but still pretty large.
It has 283 city tiles, many large, and the config is 40x36.

It doesnt seem to slow down my PC at all, and this is a lapptop mind you, 1.6GHz pentium M, with 512Mb ram

Here is the massive region of Myon:

Older map, shows more land area:

Most Recent Political Map: (Star marks the location of Myon City)
userhttp://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7876/republicofmyon3ww.th.jpg>
And that only shows the developed and terraformed areas, there is more to the south and east on both of those maps. Total size is 44x94 small city tiles. While it takes a while to load, I haven't had any problems with it.

PS: Also, it is all god mode terraformed.

I experimented with region size. I tried a 900x2 region. It slowed my 3.4GHz P4 a bit, but the problem was that when I used the right mouse button, it wouldn't let me scroll. I also tried a 256x2 region to the same result. My biggest region is 60x60 tiles, all large.

My PC specs:
512MB RAM
250 GB HD
3.4 GHz P4
Radeon X600 with 256MB memory

So an OK gaming machine, and I also use a 17 TFT (flat-screen) monitor.

It also has a DVD-rewriter and front-mounted USB/Firewire ports, and memory card slots, and S-Video and Composite, and... tons. Shame it has a lousy Epson Color 440 that prints stuff with lines and uses the wrong colours, and a set of speakers that came with our old computer.

However, the catch is that it's a family computer, and Mum, Dad, and my little sister all want to use it as well.

As I said that I had problems with the size of my test regions, can anyone tell me what the region size limit is before there are problems, or is it just the tiny width and massive length?

shiznit6.gif6.gif The largest regions I work with are around 10x10 or the occassional 15. I just fill up my region and add, takes up too much memory to create a 256x(variable).(My PC has been used way too much, too screwd up)

(I think i should reinstall winxp)37.gif

couple of questions:

DuskTrooper:  How long have you been working on that city, its amazing.  I've spent a month on a 12x12 region and it only has a pop of 75,000!

Also, i know how to expand a map with config going south and east, but is it possible to expand north and west, when you've done the config in the top left hand corner of MS Paint?

My Encounter Bay Region is built on a map with config 48x48 and is about 1/6th developed in total. Has a pop of 10.6 million. Only about a couple of dozen cities are large, the rest are medium.

The 1/6th of the region:
