Well it's not exactly like waving a magic wand.  It will take some dissecting to figure out just how the file storage works, and what is locked within the EXE (making it unmoddable).

FYI, it has been 11 years since SimCity 4 came out, and we are not able to make larger city tiles for that.

Yeah, but in SC4 it really wasn't that important!
I would say in SC5 the most important thing is the map size!!! and then the underground... ;)

And thanks to all of the guys and girls which work for us in there private time to make the game playable. If i can choose i would prefer to pay them the money instead of EA's shi*heads!

SC4 with all the mods is the best city simulation i know, till now!

May you can answer me if its allowed in this forum to post mods which are not allowed by ea? For example: changed .dll .exe and so on?

Just wondering... Now that we're offline, why does EA care about mods that change the gameplay? it's offline, so who's it hurting?

Short answer, it's hurting them. Their micro-transaction based game no longer needs them to create content now that it's offline. If they restrict the content that is made then there will still be money made from "expansion packs" but with the modding community we can make stuff and it's free. They want to restrict the community made content as much as possible so they stay relevant.

Then if that's the case, let EA create larger maps that can be downloaded for offline use, at least, even with a small fee. They can still be relevant in some other capacity...

I don't think that Maxis would create bigger maps. I think they could if they would but now the game is offline & in that case they don't want to waste any more time with the game.

@jackcraft57

Actually we don't know if it's possible. Don't understand me wrong but I'm not a modder so I don't know it. Many are saying it will be possible & other say it won't work. There's one thing we can do, hope that it will be possible :D

I remember the interviews with Maxis/EA they said they did try a bigger map during testing, and implied they might make it bigger later on (a statement later taken back).  That means a bigger map is technically possible.

So how would it be done?  A custom region with larger maps?  Modding the existing regions with expanded city borders?  A custom region that's one big mega city?

I was thinking if not bigger maps, then maps that could be placed beside existing map tiles and appear to make a city look bigger. Such maps could be named for example "Chestwick" as the main tile, then "East Chestwick" as another tile, and so on. From an overhead view, the city would look like a SC4 megacity.

I agree, that would be cool.
Think about one big Los Angeles with East, Downtown, etc. :D

Bigger Maps are Coming ^^

Is that an official confirmation?

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

i think the whole terrain should be split up into different buyable areas that you as mayor can purchase for a hefty ammount of money. (sort of like the roller coaster tycoon 3 model)... the problem i suppose is that we don't know very much about the map file format and how to edit that (are there resources in the maps outside of the city borders?).

if it was possible w/o illegal methods, bigger maps would've been done already for Sc4. Nothing to do with being important or not.

I believe - if there will ever be larger maps - it would be regions with bigger city tiles than the existing regions.

But there is no map editor or something like that. So how you wonna create a region with bigger city sizes ?

Maxis won't do that. Otherwise they would have done this already.

You have no idea... :)

If I had been given a few bucks for every time I saw a newcomer ask if it was possible to have bigger maps, or to use the entire region as one big map, I would be sitting on my own, self-bought small Caribbean island by now. :P

When I played the game when I had it (simcity 4) I couldn't even built a city on the smaller plot. I suppose that means I sucked back then.

I wouldn't mine the same map size, but with grids right next to each other like SC4, with maybe a small spot for the highway, since that's slightly important.

Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but you can't mod for bigger maps. They're located in something called the core game files, which we're not allowed to mod. It's the same thing for SimCity 4.

And even if you were allowed to alter the core game files, you still can't create bigger maps. It's in something called a .exe, which is completely unmoddable.
