The black era was the good old days as far as I'm aware.  (I wanted to say "golden age" but upon second thought I believe we may be there now.)  I pretty much disappeared from the site in late 2004/early 2005 so it constitutes pretty much all of my prior recollection.  I can remember visiting the site a few times before registering and having trouble finding where the custom content was - and then giving up until eventually deciding to try again.  I'm not aware if that was a common theme or just my own density.

I almost came back around 2009 but honestly what killed it was requiring the CD to play - now running off a laptop that is horribly inconvenient especially as you can't just leave it in the drive and have any expectation for battery life.  Enter the world of digital copies and since last year I now play the game more than I ever did before.

I've first came about here 2010; however I was not active between 2011-2013 due to lost interest in SC4. My username back in those days was Mercury96. I resigned up in 2013 since I couldn't access my old account (Yahoo deleted the email it was linked to making changing my password impossible.) Either way, I guess a fresh start was in order.  :)

I joined in 2009 (as 111222333444) when it was still a bit messy with the updates. Man I felt so old with the pikachu avatar.

I did run the community newspaper for a short while, (2011-2012) but with time issues I think it would be impossible to revive it again.

Wow, I am seeing some very old names in this thread. I've been a member since mid 2003 but I don't post often. I visit regularly but I don't comment unless I have a question, a constructive comment, or when I feel somebody has really done something amazing.

When did this site actually start up? Some good times for me were when NDEX were releasing content and when the Japanese bats were discovered.

I believe this site has started in late 2002 if not in 2003.

It's crazy to think of the days when I used to pour over these forums day and night. Feel very surreal. I'm sort of slightly put off ever browsing the forum for any substantial length of time these days as I realise I barely know any of the active posters these days.

I miss quite a lot of people from here, I hope everyone's doing well.

And a grin to my mouth.  I've been around for a long, long time as web sites go.

I remember doing the old omnibus and having to improvise different ways to do html on the posts. And converting to the new omnibus...that was a project. Haha.

Remember the blog section that didn't last very long?

Amazing that I've been here since 2004, but I guess I'm just not social enough, haha.  Just surfing some threads today and seeing names like Jacqulina, Nonny Moose, TenkindusT, etc. brings back memories.  Amazing how most of us are still playing the game that basically started this website - SC4.  Seriously 11 years of playing SC4.  Now SC4 has become more of a picture drawing game and less of a simulation for me --- which is why I can't wait for a suitable robust realistic replacement for it.

And wow, some of you guys have a ton of awards!

^ Don't hold your breath waiting for a complete replacement in beautiful 3D with speedy response for large cities.  I am very much afraid we need a quantum leap in PCs for that to be possible.

Going multi-tasking will only partially solve the main-loop problem of this kind of simulator.  The curve will still be hyperbolic, but the knee will be farther to the right with respect to the number of objects in the city.

The payoff will be in the little subtasks like construction of buildings, and operating the traffic GUI (which is mostly GPU intensive).  There will always be a data rendezvous problem with will control the frame rate.
