Sure, Ill bite

I chose all the bands I love the most, and then just threw them in order of what I listen to the most often. As well as my favorite/favorite-ish song by them.

Was one of the first artists that I started listening to that wasn't metal.

Other artist I started listening to that wasn't metal. I have to thank them both for opening my mind to more music out there.

Modest Mouse

Cake

I'll hopefully be seeing them at Red Rocks in July

Saw him the other month. He played Thick as a Brick 1 and 2 in their entiretys, was a wicked concert.

Pink Floyd

Will also be seeing them in cocnert over the sumer. I can't wait!

I would probably kill to get to see a Pink Floyd concert. I had the chance to see Rammstein in concert but due to some conflicting events I didn't get to go.

And Nine Inch Nails just updated the site and said that he's going on a (late) 2013 tour with some awesome people as well as started working on a new album!

http://pitchfork.com/news/49681-trent-reznor-announces-the-return-of-nine-inch-nails-extensive-touring-for-2013-and-2014/

Just trying to spark some discussion here (at least with artists Ive seen others list). The music threads on this site people just list stuff but never delve into any actual conversation, I really don't see the point of listing bands but never going beyond that.

_marsh_: I'm super geeked about NIN. I've never seen Trent or any variation of the NIN moniker. I'll be at that show for sure if it swings through my burgh.

I did get a chance to see Roger Waters on 2 separate occasions (he is a genius) but this Saturday I'll be seeing Brit Floyd. You should check them out. Their US tour just started so you might get tickets if you are in the US. They are the next best thing to the real deal and with Rick being dead and the other members not wanting to play house, what other options do you have? I suppose you could go to a laser show but stoned teenagers who still don't know the last line of Mother are not my typical cohorts. I stay away from those shows.

My buddy recently got me into Modest Mouse. I haven't explored too much but they are pretty good. Gorillaz are great. Kids With Guns is still one of my favs.

Also, quick question here... is the 2post rule still in effect? I stayed away from here for so long I forgot the rules. If so, my bad.

Muck: Yea, I could have a chance to go to one of those concerts, but unless it was them all I'm not planning on dishing out $300 for nosebleed tickets. And a laser show just isn't the same...

I don't doubt NiN will put on a good show, and I can't wait for that. As for Modest Mouse I liked them, but slowly grew into them and love them now. The Moon & Antarctica is my favorite album, and a wicked concept album at that. Coming in tied at 2nd are their first 2, This Is A Long Drive, and Lonesome Crowded West. However by no means am I saying their newer albums are bad, those are just my personal favorites :)

There is still a segment of older American rock that is popular here, and among a slightly older demographic, you'll find people who would love listening to your hometown's classic rock station.  Lots of Queen fans and Bon Jovi fans.  The sad reality of music in Japan is that it is absolutely horrendous, an elevator-like nightmare of unimaginative feces spewd out of music factories 'sung' by 'singers' who are little better than clones of one another.  The ones who aren't clones, they are boring boring boring boring boring, with almost no exceptions whatsoever.  Your average Japanese person, from personal experience, has terrible taste in music.  It is VERY easy for me to be a music snob here.

Ahaha, exactly just like in Greece

Most "artists" here sound like they bark, while their "epic" songs are actually clones of other equally meaningless songs :dead:

I've never heard any Greek popular music, but I like some of the stuff played on various stringed instruments like the Bouzouki (sp?).  We only get little tastes over here in the wilds of the frozen north.

Generally I like all music and you can see my feeling about it in my signature.

Dream Theater

Devin Townsend

Riverside

Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon + others)

Symphony X

Muse

Sonata Arctica

Threshold

Oooooh, someone likes Prog, eh? Well, there's much in that list that's right up my alley. :golly:

Devin Townsend, indeed!

Riverside is such a great (and underrated) band, too.

Symphony X - oh yes. Oooooh yes.

Threshold - affirmative.

Dream Theater - yup.

Some of Arjen's stuff is great, too. :)

I'll add (in no particular order)...

Opeth

Dark Tranquillity

Amorphis

The Gathering and their ex-singer Anneke van Giersbergen

Rush

Phideaux

Fates Warning

Obviously there's more where that came from, but often just one or two albums (sometimes there is not more than one release). The artists listed above should provide some pointers, though.

EDIT

@Alejandro24: Just saw you mentioned Front Line Assembly and Die Krupps... great Industrial stuff! Can't say I'm generally a fan of Industrial music, but once in a while I enjoy it a lot, especially these two.  :) There's also the occasional Skinny Puppy song I might enjoy.
